Every day provides us with opportunities to celebrate. Today I invite you to celebrate the sugary delight, known as the jelly bean.

Jelly Beans in History

Today we celebrate the Jelly Bean.
The candy of which my Mom dreams!
They are her favorite candy,
She thinks they are just dandy.
Jelly Beans have a place in history,
After reading this poem, it won’t be a mystery.
Jelly Beans hail from Charlestown,
A neighborhood in Beantown.
Created when William Schrafft,
Plied his confectionary craft.
In 1861, seeking more exposure,
He urged people to send them to Union soldiers.
Jelly Beans during the Great Depression,
Sold as penny candy, made a grand impression.
In the 1930’s this American classic,
landed in the Easter basket.
At the Beatles Jelly Beans were thrown,
In appreciation of their tones.
Thanks to Ronald Reagan, an American President,
The jelly bean became a White House resident.
In 1983, because of NASA’s embrace,
The Jelly Bean traveled into space.
What will be their next trend?
