Our Timid Kitty - Day 94 - Daily Haiku

Our timid kitty
is showing up every night
life is progressing

Cori MacNaughton

I keep thinking I might have seen the last of our little white and black kitty, but s/he keeps showing back up, for which I'm grateful, of only to know it is still alive and kicking. For the past three nights it has been limping, but it is still clearly mobile and getting around, so I'm just trying to show it that I am not threat, that I will continue feeding it, and that I will continue trying to gain its trust.

Tonight it was hanging out by the little overlook across from our barnyard, so without leaving my car, I took the opportunity to take a few photos with flash through the window, which leave a lot to be desired, but are better than nothing.

S/he reminds me a lot of Miod, with the helmet markings across the top of the head, and with the fact that I have not once heard it meow. And, since it showed up unannounced on our place, as Miod did a bit over four years ago, there actually is an off chance it might be one of his siblings or cousins. It seems to be fairly young, but is clearly not a kitten, though as yet I have no idea as to gender.

I am having to make certain that Lolo and our two cats are in the house before I put the goats in for the night, as that is when I am giving it its primary meal, so the little guy has the chance to eat his/her own food without interference, which has been an issue a couple of times when Marek forgot and let them out. Ah, well.

But it seems to know that Lolo is not a threat, that the cats won't hurt it, and that yes, I will keep feeding it, as long as it keeps coming around. Life is good. Hopefully I can move its food and cat carrier into the barn soon, as it is much better shelter than the porch where it is currently, but I don't want to move it when s/he isn't around.

I want it to know it is still welcome, and not to ever think it is being abandoned or threatened in any way.

Of course, the reason I am posting this so late is that we still have no Internet service, so my husband's laptop is connected to his mobile tethering from his phone, but for some reason I cannot connect with mine.

What can I say, the Universe has a warped sense of humor, and sometimes makes us work for what we want to make certain that it actually IS what we want. ;-)

All words and images are my own.

The photo of our dog, Lolo, and our late cat, Miod, I took as they were cooperatively begging at the dinner table, despite our longstanding rule of not feeding them from the table.

You can see how much that deterred them both.
