Our River is High - Day 93 - Daily Haiku
Our river is high
and brown, our waterfalls flow
with strength and volume
Cori MacNaughton
I had planned on posting this earlier this afternoon, but our lack of internet made that impossible, since I could only connect via my phone. This has gotten old.
The photo above was taken at the same time as the photo I posted some time back, of our wet weather springs turning up as four waterfalls, which is only the second time I've witnessed that since we moved here six years ago. We had had several days of steady to heavy rains at the time.
The white plume in the foreground, which is about a third of the way in from the left, is the large volume of water crossing under the road from the largest and most consistent of the waterfalls, which was moving a huge volume of water; much larger than I've seen in the past. It was not only pretty impressive to watch, but was quite loud, as well.
The photos were taken with my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 smart phone.
Our river is currently just as high and brown, but we have the usual two waterfalls, as our rain has been far lighter than it was in early February. In a few days of little to no rain, the level will lower substantially, and our river will revert to its usual blue-green color. Lovely.
And I would love to hear your take in the comments.

I was introduced to them by a co-worker in 1990, lost track

The photo of our dog, Lolo, and our late cat, Miod, I took as they were cooperatively begging at the dinner table, despite our longstanding rule of not feeding them from the table.
You can see how much that deterred them both.

There's also a river near our house and I must say that just looking at it makes me feel so relaxed. Lovely photo!
We looked at property for over 2 1/2 years, because Marek was adamant that he wanted to be on navigable water.
The Calfkiller is not a huge river, at just 42 miles long, but it is clean enough that our county seat, Sparta, takes our drinking water from it, because it is is largely spring fed, and it is mostly wild along its length. It is among the cleanest rivers in the U.S., and we have very clean air quality too, being far from any major city.
About 2 1/2 miles south of us, which is longer as the river flows, the Calfkiller empties into the much larger Caney Fork River, which is the local watershed for this part of Tennessee.
I love the diversity of plant life and wildlife in our area, which is largely due to the river's influence. And I agree, I sometimes go down to the little bridge, roughly a mile from our house, and just watch the river flow, which is very contemplative.
Yeah, there are mangroves by the river near our house. I like seeing the greenery makes me feel that somehow, there are still plants thriving in our place.
I miss the mangrove flats in Tampa Bay. I used to love sailing there is the early morning and evening, and watching the dolphins, the baby sharks and rays, and all the orher life forms cavorting around our boat.
There's nothing better than life on the water. ;-)
