The Most Random Things: Get To Know Me

Hola friends!

Today is a special day because I’m not going to post anything about food. Instead I’m giving you 10 “interesting” random facts about me. Usually I shy away from such details openly shared online but my friend @delishtreats nominated me to participate in this challenge put on by @twodorks (what a cool name).

DF8804B1-B242-4F0E-AFC0-1AF9D0EEF1F9.jpeg

Follow me as I stumble through this #gettoknowme challenge:

1- I speak 1 and 1/2 languages.🤪

I say 1 and 1/2 because I am a native English speaker and have been learning Spanish for well over a year now. Although I am not yet fluent I practice on my Duolingo app every single day for at least 30 minutes. Today marks my 478th day in row. Hopefully by this time next year I’ll be more proficient!

2- Up until a few years ago acrobats used to be my party trick.

When I was 3 years old my Mom enrolled me in gymnastics and there I stayed until 14. I had dreams of making it to the olympics but when I saw how puberty was hitting all of my friends and leaving me out, I reconsidered this dream. So, I quit and became a coach (yes, I worked at 14) while playing competitive soccer. This is where I found my love for running 😉

3 - My teeth were silver as a child.

Apparently I loved apple juice and never cared very much for milk so apple juice it was. My teeth weren’t as big of fans as I was and the dentist crowned my 4 front teeth. I have always been a bit sassy and imagine that developed during those years. Everybody knows how kids can be. Luckily they were only my baby teeth so today my smile sparkles. To date I have never had a cavity 🤷🏼‍♀️.

4- Vampires are my favorite mystical creature.

Some like unicorns, others like zombies, I have always been enamored by vampires. Maybe that’s where my affinity for garlic comes from 🤔. This has always been the case even as a little girl. I read all of the Twilight books within a week, way before the movies came out. I was also a huge fan of HBO’s True Blood. Haha…

5- In college I lived off of hot tamales and string cheese.

I swear I was so healthy running several miles a day and fitting into the tiniest of sizes but am sure now I was only nutrient deficient. I can’t even believe my body held up on me. Eating a box of hot tamales a day accompanied by 3 pieces of string cheese and a Hansen’s diet root beer is not a healthy diet 🤦🏼‍♀️. I have since found a better way- thank God.

6- God and I are close.

My parents didn’t raise us in the church nor do I go on my own now, but God has been a big part of my life since I was 21. I still remember the day it hit me like a ton of bricks. I have my Dad to thank for this one (he brought me God and Bruce Lee, “always the genius, Dad”).😇

7- Riding on the back of a Harley is one of my favorite pastimes.

This photo was taken of @dandays and I riding Tail of the Dragon in Tennessee. It actually runs through the Carolina’s and is supposed to be the windiest road in the world. Nonetheless it’s a beautiful ride. Unfortunately we rolled up on 3 different motorcycle accidents that day. It was a bit harrowing to say the least, but everyone walked away so that was good. We took it really easy on all of those turns. Dandays only scraped the side of the bike once, it scared the beejeezus out of me.

8- Dogs are the best.

It’s been quite a few years since I’ve had a dog but they are truly the most lovable angels I know of. As a child we had a German Shepard named Rocky. My Mom and Dad thought it was funny to call him Rockalito Montoya. I don’t know if that’s a famous boxers name or what. My parents have always been free spirits. Kiki was our dog in high school. She stayed with us up until 5 years ago when she moved on to reunite with Rocky and Dad. Funny story alert:

When Dandays and I first met he came to visit me for a weekend. Kiki was pretty old and didn’t move a whole lot but always appreciated good pets and some table scraps if you had any. My mom had just brought back deli sandwiches from subway when we all decided to go to the garage to look at something. When we returned Kiki had opened up and eaten @dandays’ entire sandwich. It wasn’t even a reasonable sandwich but a foot long spicy Italian with pepperoncini’s, spicy mustard and hot chipotle sauce. When we discovered this, Kiki just looked up at us like “what, nothing…”. Haha

Dogs are the best!

9- 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and classic rock are awesome but flawlessly being able to rap a Tupac or Too Short song is the shizz.

I really do love all kinds of music. During my morning jog it’s usually 80’s, sometimes a mix of rock music, but once in a while there’s a need to spit some true gangster rap. I grew up with Tupac, Andre Nikatina, Too Short and Dr. Dre among many others, so to hear me spit a rap in the middle of a party isn’t such a bizarre occurrence 🤷🏼‍♀️. I will also sing the crap out of the classics like Elton John’s Tiny Dancer but say Tony Danza… I’ve been known to miff the words of many songs like this.

10- Marrying my husband was the best thing I’ve ever done.

I know what you’re thinking, “come on guys get a room” but marrying @dandays has seriously been the best decision I’ve ever made. We met on a cruise ship (@lynncoyle1, we weren’t wearing shiny track suits, promise) and a few phone calls later I was hopelessly, utterly, undeniably in love. Since then he’s only grown on me more. He’s taught me how to take care of and love myself, which is a gift I could never repay. @dandays, you are truly the best thing I have ever done! Muah

Now, I suppose it’s my turn to make a couple nominations… I’d really love to read more about @edprivat , @dandays , @plantstoplanks and @weirdheadaches. Would you four join us in this #gettoknowme challenge?

Thank you @delishtreats for the nomination. At first I was skeptical but come to find out it was really easy to talk about myself. Go figure 🤷🏼‍♀️.

Bonus tidbit:

When I laugh I break out into a full body sweat 🤦🏼‍♀️ Who knows what that’s about?!?

Pura Vida ✌️

Sort:

Eh, it was so easy to talk about yourself, you had to make a 11th one about your sweat! That’s funny. Not as funny as putting @edprivat before me though, no pressure or anything, Ed, but I think she wants to know 10 things about you. 👍🏿

You busted out Killa Whale?! Really? Your husband’s the luckiest guy I know. All of the other tracks, I clicked on them for a second just to make sure I know the track I guess but not Andre Nickatina - Nope! Packed a fresh one even, played it all the way through and even shot it to a couple buddies. Ed, you should do that.
“I’m a Pisces but if rather be killa whale” what a jam.

We met on a cruise ship and a few phone calls later...

It’s a good thing you lived 10 hours away and we had to talk on the phone or I never woulda stood a chance! I had about a month of my smooth talkin, quick movin, never lost a battle yet mouth! What you didn’t know is I was a nervous wreck! Shoooot, I never talked to a 10 before.

Great post beautifullest. Oh, and according to @steemladder you just got here so, “welcome!”

Haha… okay, I think I tagged this wrong. Who knew that the #introduceyourself was only for newcomers 🤷🏼‍♀️

You so smooth babe and you make me laugh all the time. That mouth is quick, giving people whiplash over here.

Yes @edprivat, sorry to put you on the spot but the community wants to know things :)

Check out my pink socks on the bike though. I’ll try to remember that, “I have like 5 pairs of pink socks.”

Those aren’t even your best ones 😉

Hahaha I started laughing out loud because it's something that I would have bitched about too!

Okay okay I get it, I am mingling too much in your personal life, but it's just getting interesting!!! In one week I've learnt that you're definitely a speed outlaw and that you wife was a soccer player, and that you guys goin' on biker road trip a la Bonnie and Clyde.( I have no idea if CLyde and Bonnie were riding bikes)

Mingling too much? Ya right, you rock Ed! Hey!! You literally do. I’ve been saying ‘you rock’ as a gesture of “right on” or “cool” for quite some time but I guess it doesn’t mean as much when you tell a rockstar they rock, does it? Like telling a dentist “nice teeth.” Well, ya... duh! She’s a dentist, of course she has nice teeth! Or telling the nascar driver “nice left turn.” (I’fa king hate nascar by the way)

(I have no idea if Clyde and Bonnie were riding bikes)

They are in the picture! 👍🏿

Lol I can't get enough rocking ...!
My teeth are probably my cryptonite, so I am in no place to judge, but once I remember a dentist that has the most fucked up teeth, and I was like "dude, sort your shit out" (I mean I didn't REALLY say that).
Does it mean that a female gynecologist is "pristine" down there?
That's one tough job btw

Nice to know you @puravidaville 😉 the story about Kiki ate dandays sandwich really funny😂

Awe… thanks @cicisaja. Kiki was a little mischievous one but way too cute for any punishment. Plus once you get to a certain age you’re pretty much aloud to do whatever you want. :)

Please excuse my tardiness in commenting. It's taking my a while to catch up with my feed. My steemit feed that is.

What a great post @puravidaville, truly fascinating. Just one thing...

I’m not going to post anything about food.

Ooo the lies. Come on now, be honest... You just can't help yourself can you?

Or were those parts your subconscious typing? Haha!

The Queen forgives you! Food will be back on the menu come Friday, don’t you worry :). I also haven’t forgotten about the comedy nomination… I plan to work on it this weekend.

No rush. Take your time. I know how busy life gets us some... most of the time.

😊 i didnt know they had a spanish app, cool. Use to love the apple juice. I was actually in gymnastics for a few years and had that same dream lol. Thanks for sharing :]. Dogs and 2pac, how could you go wrong w that hah. @dandays is a lucky dude.

Ehhh well see on the challenge.... ty kindly for the nomination. Have an Amazing day)))

Oh and my 2cents on the sweat... Laughing can also be a form of anxiety or triggering a flight response in the body, subconsciously of course. I am not a professional, pls always consult your medical doctor, lol. Just came to mind when i read ✌

Hey that laughing/anxiety thing might be it. Don’t worry, I won’t change any laughing or sweating before speaking with a healthcare pro. Haha

Gymnastic has definitely shaped the kind of person I am. I’ve benefitted in so many ways because of my youthful dedication to such a sport. Dogs, Tupac and God… the holy grail!! Haha

Thanks for reading @weirdheadaches, and no pressure. I just thought it would be cool to read a few things about this all meat eating, fasting maniac who gets weird headaches 🤷🏼‍♀️ Cheers!

I always wanted a Harley, it must be awesome to ride on one.

Oh they are the best! It’s a huge reminder of my childhood and I think I’ll always love Harley’s.

All right, I will try to come up with something, thanks for the nomination :)
the #gettoknowme is definitely what steemit needs!!!

JEez I am listening to the Tupac and I should have hidden the kids before hitting play :P that was gangster, the end was plain OG...

And for the transition I am now gonna admit that I 've watched True Blood, all of it, and maybe Buffy the vampire slayer too, and even if my beautiful wife admit that it's gay, she's always been cool about it and pretend it's all good , like that girl being ok with this dude's matching outfit

I have now 3 posts request in the near future, I wanna read in that order:

  • The cruise ship!!! (that's so cute btw!)
  • Best soccer game played
  • How you met god

Awesome!!! I’m glad you accept. I don’t really like to be put on the spot and was hoping this nomination didn’t make you feel that way, but I think a lot of us would like to know more about the artist behind the art.

Oh no, you played it in front of your kids… it’s the opening line that I love “… that’s why I fukked your btch you fat ma’fukker… first off fuk your btch and the clique you claim…” haha… to me the most gansterist song I know of. We listened to that album all day lon as a kid. Haha… little hooligans.

Yes!! True Blood was awesome!! Dandays would make fun of me but I don’t care. Now I probably wouldn’t waist my time because we really don’t watch tv, but guess what book I’m reading… A Discovery of Witches, fully about a vampire/witch love story. Think Twilight but dated back in time. Haha… I’m still a sucker for a good vamp.

By the way I think the girl picked out his outfit. Definitely a funny couple. 🤦🏼‍♀️

I will keep your post requests in mind. I’m not promising anything but we’ll see what we can do. First I have a comedy open mic to write. I was nominated to write two things this week 🤷🏼‍♀️

I find something hilarious that you both do with @dandays is the auto censorship by changing a fuck into a fukk, or bitch into btch, trying to trick your own mind that you are not swearing hahaha...

How about "Interview with The Vampire"? There's a book too.
Or is it "Interview with A Vampire?"
There's a goofy theory out there called "The Mandela Effect".
If I could explain it bluntly, it's the belief that some differences between one's memories and the real world are caused by changes to past events in the timeline.
And some people recall it called "Interview with A Vampire" whereas others remember "Interview with The Vampire".
False-memory?Universes colliding?cognitive dissonance?
We cannot be sure, see you in the next episode of the twilight zone

Haha… I do that because I say often “not cussing is more powerful than cussing”. I also am quite free with my speech while in good company 😉. I just figure that whole online why not keep it PG. I also find that many take you more seriously when you lack the f and shh filler words. Maybe it’s just me 🤷🏼‍♀️

The Mandela effect, yes, this is psych. 101. Interesting how we collectively attribute memories to something that is completely false. I think it’s our minds way of filling in the gaps of the minute details that we can’t quite remember. Deja vu is another one that comes to mind.

Isn’t it “Interview with the Vampire” or am I having a Mandela moment? Cognitive dissonance has always tripped me out though.

This is good to know a bit about you!

I agree with no selfie, or personal info, dogs and God...I am there with you!

Awesome! Thanks @icybc. God and dogs just might be all you need in this life. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I think the selfie culture is ruining everything, definitely relationships. People find it more and more difficult to maintain healthy relationships and I think our obsession with ourselves is a huge factor. Thanks for reading a non food post. I’m glad you stopped by :)

I thought that my streak of 77 days on Duolingo was good, but you beat me easily with that one, haha! This was a fun post to read, it's always nice to learn more things about my Steemit friends! :)

I'm also glad you've changed your diet after college. Hot tamales, string cheese and root beer, oh my goodness, haha! But you know what, I would've never believed that you ate like that, nowadays you seem to be the epitome of health when it comes to eating!

77 days on duolingo is fantastic. Dandays I think got through a week and then had to give it up. He said it was too boring 🤷🏼‍♀️ Como es tu Espanol? El mio no esta muy bueno.

I’m glad you stopped by to read this post! It was fun sharing a bit more than my food :)

Oh, my diet was horrible! The kicker was that I’d run 5-10 miles a day too, and thought that made me healthy. What a meat head I was 🤦🏼‍♀️ Our health starts with our nutrition so am glad I woke up finally.

By the way, Dandays and I ended up handing out candy for Halloween. We bought a few bags of lollipops that leave a tattoo on your tongue, gummies bears and something called candy sticks, which was made with beef geletin come to find out. Handing out nuts or chocolate covered dried fruits would have been wayyy better :)

I'm really bad at Spanish, I cannot put sentences together, but I understand a bit more and that's always positive! I've also been revising Swedish with Duolingo since I currently have a Swedish course, so I haven't had that much time for Spanish... But my Swedish course will end in a few weeks, so then it's the time for Spanish again! :)

Handing out nuts or dried fruits covered with chocolate could've been a lot better (perhaps next year 😉), but lollipops that leave a tattoo on your tongue, whaaaat? That's new, haha!

Haha… yeah I don’t think those tattoo lollipops are half as nutritious as nuts though.

When you pick it up again I’ll drop you a Spanish line here and there. Putting sentences together is the most difficult part, I think. I can’t wait to practice in a Spanish speaking country. That’ll hopefully drive it home.

Practicing a foreign language in a country where everyone is speaking it is the best way to learn. I even have an example to prove you this. I went to Québec for a year as an exchange student and I knew very little French before going there, only the basics really. My host family didn't really speak English, so my only choice was to learn French, and I must say, I got pretty good in a year. You'll improve your Spanish skills so much during your trip, I'm sure about it! :)

Oh, I’m so excited! So are you pretty fluent in French now? Learning this way i hear is always the best- completely immersing yourself in the culture.

I was pretty fluent in French. Yet, I'm not sure how good am I atm, since I haven't really spoken the language in years. However, I think (=hope) it's relatively easy to recall. :)

You should practice here and there. It’s a great skill to have. If I knew any French I’d speak it with you here but I only know a tiny bit of Spanish 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yessss!! You can learn a lot through someone's cooking, but it is just as much fun to get some extras. I definitely learned some new things about you. 😃

I did gymnastics for a few years but grew too tall way too early, so I think I was done with that by about 8. I enjoyed the few years that I did it. My dad's buddy owned a gym when we were little, so we used to do our birthday parties there. But that gets into part of why I ended up becoming a personal trainer and perhaps that can be another tale for later on...

My diet in college was pretty horrendous, as well. I worked in the mall throughout 3 of the years. Pretty sure I still have remnants of Taco Bell in my colon...

Ooh, and vampires are probably my favorite, too. I admit to reading Twilight, but I think I first fell in love with Anne Rice's creatures. It probably didn't hurt when Brad Pitt was cast in "Interview with a Vampire". Dracula is of course a part of my book collection.

Ok, perhaps I'll join in, too. I'll have to give it some good thought to really come up with some deep cuts. Thanks for sharing just a little bit more! Not that I didn't already know we'd totally be pals if we ever meet in person, but still. 😉

Oh birthday parties at the gym were the best. I remember trampoline jumping, pit diving and no need to “perfectly practice” anything but fun. I’d like to read how you became trainer ::wink:: ::wink::

Taco Bell is the worst! We used to order jack in the box mystery greasy tacos with curly fries and called that eating. All of it is nasty! Remnants remain in the colon… that’s funny!!

Interview with the vampire was an awesome movie. Brad Pitt definitely helped vamps with their already sexy persona. I think my vampire obsession kind of came from Dad. He was a big fan who introduced us probably earlier than he should have 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m glad you’re game to join the fun! I know it’s daunting to share personal info about yourself but even funny inconsequential facts are good with this exercise. I look forward to your 10 things @plantstoplanks :)

It is lovely to know more about your my Dear Puravidaville and I love your beautiful blue eyes. By the way, I was infatuated with vampires at one point too; I even had an idea for a movie script, lol.

Thank you @lenasveganliving! You had a movie script idea…? Sounds fascinating. I’d love to hear about it sometime. I’m reading a book right now called A Discovery Of Witches. It’s about a witch and vampire who fall in love over this sacred enchanted manuscript. Haha… just reading my explanation makes me sound ridiculous. Anyway, it’s a trilogy so if I like it then I have more vamps to look forward to in my near future 😉.

I don't think I would read a book, but if it was a movie, I would watch it. Sounds like something right up to my valley, lol.

It’s a long one too… 600 pages 😱. I’ll mention it again should a movie version come out :)

That is long! But yes, keep an eye on movie; I would appreciate it my Dear for sure!
