3D printing is gaining more and more traction everyday. This invention is making life much easier for businesses, education and everyday household use. 3D printing can also help you save a few extra bucks because, instead of going out to buy something, you can make from the comfort of your own home.

So what is 3D Printing?

3D printing can be defined as an additive manufacturing process that creates a physical object from a digital design. In other words, it’s a technology that enables you to make a physical object from a digital model. The materials used in 3D printing include rubber, metal, plastic and other similar materials. The object can be scanned or an existing scan is utilized and the printer slices into the layers to convert into a physical object.

Domestic Use

3D printing may one day become an ordinary household appliance found in every home. For now, it is still widely perceived as a machine that belongs in a factory. Although they are not in every household as yet, there are homes that have embraced this innovative technology and began making use of it.

Objects such as shower heads, bottle openers, flower pots, outlets plug protectors, pen holders, drink coasters, cups, candle holders, vases, phone cases, cellphone cases and many other objects can be made at home. So, if something breaks unexpectedly, you can make it yourself within the amount of time it would have taken you to get to the mall.

Educational Use

3D printing can make education more practical with tangible 3rd dimensional objects for students to view. 3D printing brings any subject matter to life. This can also make learning more interesting and fun. Some students learn better with visual aids. 3D printing will be a cost-effective option for schools to have and enable further student engagement if they have the opportunity to be part of the creation process.

Art students can dig deep into their imaginations by turning their 2D designs into 3D objects. Architecture students can create 3D models of their designs. History students are able to create 3D objects of historical artifacts that they find online or from their textbooks. Geography students can create 3D objects of topography, demographic or population maps and land features. There are many other examples of 3D printing in education.

Business Use

3D printing can be a potential source of income. You can inexpensively mass produce any object that you create and sell it in your community. These machines can create economic freedom for those who are entrepreneurially inclined and with the current economic climate it is not a bad option.

Many well-known companies including Nike and Ford make use of 3D printing in the production of their products. 3D printing makes the production process quicker. Ford has been making use of 3D printing for its parts since the 1980s and has evidently been doing well. Now you may not become as big as Ford or Nike in the beginning but you have to start somewhere.

3D printing has many benefits to it and it will increase in popularity within the next few years. Be one of the first to get a 3D printer and stand out amongst others
