Will Elon Musk's Tesla Roadster ever come back to Earth?

Hi there, Steemit!

Last week was a tremendous Elon Musk pump about Tesla Roadster launch into space.

Actually, the entrepreneur was counting on this - we must think, the flight of an electric vehicle in space is just an excellent advertisement for both SpaceX and Tesla Inc.

Of course, the biggest achievement in all this fountain of success is the fact that a heavy carrier rocket Falcon Heavy flew into space. It is she who will be able to further send a person and his cargo to the outer space - for example, to Mars. But many of those who followed the event itself, tormented by the question - what will happen to Tesla?

As for the near future, it has already been described by company representatives. "Battery life is enough for about 12 hours of work, this is the most rough estimate. After the electric car batteries have landed, the flight will continue in complete silence. Perhaps Tesla will "plow through" the solar system millions or even billions of years. Maybe the car will be discovered by an alien civilization, which will be difficult to understand why there is clearly a ground vehicle in outer space, "Musk said.

In a somewhat more distant future, the car will begin to decay under the influence of micrometeorites and cosmic radiation. According to experts, all organic substances used to make the hull and other elements of the electric vehicle in open space will be exposed to hard radiation. It. In turn, leads to the destruction of carbon-carbon bonds between carbon and hydrogen. These links degrade over time. That's why the first will start to deteriorate the frame of a car of carbon fiber, after which the electric car will simply fall apart.

There is another opinion - some scientists believe that the machine will be only slightly affected by the impact of micrometeorites and other factors, and even tens of millions of years Tesla will form a single whole. If so, then there must be an orbit along which the electric vehicle moves. And this orbit has already been calculated. And the calculation was taken for several million years into the future. Of course, it is impossible to calculate the exact trajectory for such a long period of time, but it is possible to determine the probability of the appearance of an electric vehicle in this or that region. As it turned out, there is even a possibility of the car falling back to Earth. And the probability is completely non-zero - about 6%. If the machine still comes back, it will completely burn in the Earth's atmosphere (if it will be in millions of years).

Hanno Rein from the University of Toronto in Canada with colleagues regularly calculates the trajectories of planets and exoplanets for a long time. "We have all the necessary software, and for a year we learned about what happened, decided to see what will happen in our distant future." So, we modeled the Tesla movement in the future.

Now the electric car is moving along an out-of-the-way orbit beyond the boundaries of Mars. Over time, the car will be increasingly influenced by the attraction of the sun, and the electric car will start to return. All this is a very slow process, but still predictable. So, the Roadster will move along an elongated orbit, crossing the orbits of Mars, Earth and Venus until something happens that will destroy the car. This "something" may be the fall of the Roadster to Earth - the planet where it once appeared. If this does not happen, then the electric car will move in an orbit, similar to the orbit of many asteroids in the inner part of the solar system.

In any case, an electric vehicle should soon appear near the Earth. "Soon" by the cosmic standards, and not by the earth. This will happen sometime in 2091 - just at the end of the 21st century. As mentioned above, it is impossible to accurately predict the future of an electric car, but it is possible to calculate it with a high degree of probability without problems.

It is interesting that the car was sent into space not because of a whim mask. Initially, the leadership of SpaceX planned to agree with NASA or the US Air Force on sending into orbit any cargo of these organizations. As for NASA, the former deputy administrator of the agency Lori Garver said that the leadership of the organization considered Falcon Heavy a competitor to its ultra-heavy SLS missile and decided to refuse to work together. In addition, representatives of the agency more than once skeptical about the rocket.

Space Man has his mind set up on leaving our solar system.
I very much doubt he's ever coming back to Earth.
We are writing a small comic series on the little Tesla in space. Check my blog pls and see if you like it!
