XY Stepper Motor Supports (3DPrinter Part 6)
This time it is about the Stepper Motor Supports for both X and Y Axis.
The support is very simple and the same for both X & Y axis:
- It is aligned with both belt gears from the gantry.
- It just needs 2 M5 bolts to mount it on the chassis and the classic 4 M3 bolts to fix on the stepper motor.
- As the support is designed you can put any length for the Nema 17 motor: I tried a 40mm with a lot of margin, it can receive even 60mm or longer without any issue. I will put a Nema 17 48mm length with 2.5A.
I just had to redesign once to reduce the height from the chassis beam to the stepper motor to a few millimeters in order to have enough clearance in the belt path (a longer closed belt can help too) for one specific axis.
This is an external design such that an enclosure can be built onto and having motronics and electronic parts outside of it, it simplifies maintenance with a nice accessibility.
Parts are made of PETG with the following slicing parameters using my ChopChop3D Slicer:
- 240C HotEnd
- 65C Bed
- 0.2mm Layer Height
- 2 Insets @ 0.4mm
- 5 Top/Bottom Layers with 120% LineInfill & 20% Overlap
- 30% ZigZag Infill & 20% Overlap
- Wipe, Dynamic Retraction/DeRetraction and few funky features at the toolpath
Forthcoming Part
Probably the Z Axis/Bed assembly will be covered, I started the design using 600mm length 8mm rods, but I had to buy 2*800mm by an happy accident and 800mm are quiet happy inside the chassis. I will reuse both 600mm in the future to implement copy/ditto printing at the XY Gantry, and buy 2 800mm for the Z axis.
