This iStriking memorial located on 47th and 1st Ave and is dedicated to honoring Raoul Wallenberg, who is credited with saving 100,000 Hungarian Jeews during the Holocaust in World War II.
It was created by Gustav Kraitz who is a Sweidish Sculptor and was dedicated in 1998.

And this is one small detail of the memorial a breifcase with his initials.
Raoul was born in 1912 and disappeared under mysterious circumstances on January 17th, 1945, it is reported that during the siege of Budapest by the Red Army Raoul Wallenberg was detained by the SMERSH on suspicion of espionage and was never seen again.
In case you are wondering SMERSH was an umbrella organization for the three counter intelligence agencies of the Red Army, and the name was coined by Joseph Stalin.

And a final shot with just a splash of color for the Bule ball that is part of the memorial.
On interesting fact I found out was that Raoul Wallenberg was made an honorary citizen of the United States in 19881, through a bill that was sponsored by Congressman Tom Lantos who was one of those saved by Raoul Wallenberg.
