Banny's - A Tasteem Review

I’m sure you are all longing to read about yet another Fish and Chips restaurant.

Well, this is the national dish in the UK whether we like it or not and there are a lot of ‘chippes’ about.

Banny’s is in reasonable close proximity to where we live and is about as good as it gets outside Yorkshire.

The other great thing about it is the service. Talk about quick! Sometimes it’s less than 5 minutes before that fish is in front of you.

IMG_4340.jpg

The restaurant has TWO wings. When one get’s full they switch to the other one. You can see one of the ’wings’ in the photograph above.

It’s a different way of solving the overcrowding problem, but the place rarely gets in that situation.

IMG_4337.jpg

Clean is a word I word to describe Banny’s. The place is immaculate and sterile to some degree.

There has been some renovation work and the interior has changed somewhat in the last few years.

IMG_4329.jpg

Like many places I have seen the prices rise and the food size diminish. Do these places really think we don’t notice?

As I have been an infrequent diner over many years I remember when they served huge plates and the chips were falling off the edges.

IMG_4330.jpg

This is not a slight on this restaurant, more a generalised comment about many of them.

I would say the wing we were escorted to was around half full, and it was maybe 2pm in the afternoon. We were a little late for lunch.

IMG_4331.jpg

The menu is not extensive, and is fish orientated. I’m not sure what the ‘Indian Fish and Chips’ is all about. I tend to order the Scampi (£9.75) and this time @bingbabe, the Fish and Chips (£10.50).

Less than 10 minutes later the food was presented. My Scampi probably held up the order.

Stability is something you always get at Banny’s. There is rarely as time when we get ‘a bad one’, and this is probably our reason for semi-regular visits.

They also give 10% discounts quite often in the form of a coupon mailed through our door.

IMG_4335.jpg

With my comments about diminishing portions, you might think we need dessert after the main course. Not at all, the portions before were way too big for me, and today’s are just my size.

For every main, you get a side order thrown in. For me, it was garden peas, and @bingbabe always gets curry sauce; you would think she was English with some the selections she makes!

IMG_4333.jpg

The bill came to around £24 with a couple of drinks. Good value for nice quality food.

Banny’s is a good Fish and Chips restaurant and worth a visit. They have two in total, one in Colne (the good one which we visit) and one in Burnley.

IMG_4332.jpg

Speaking of the latter one, it is just is not the same in terms of good quality and lacks the flavour of the former.

You can sit in both venues but the brand to me is the only thing that links them together.

If you try it, visit the Colne branch.

What is Tasteem?

Looks jolly nice! The buildings where you are look lovely and it looks as if the interior has been decked out tastefully. I expect the increases are in part to the increase in business rates, minimal wages and now the need to offer pensions. Can’t be easy to find the balance for these smaller businesses.

It's a nice place, finding good eatery's is hard.. there's too many average places but we still try in the hope of finding a gem.

This looks great.

As an American, I love seeing that side item, "proper chips".

Such an English sounding thing to read. 😊

Is that term ever used over there? it's been years since I was in North America. I think lots will have changed.

Not quite in the same way, no. If somebody said it like that I'd definitely assume they're making a conscious effort to sound English.

The food looks so good and makes me miss Fish and Chips they also do it so well in New Zeland but I seldom find anything here thats as good as whats there or back in NZ

Rising prices are due to rising labour costs. Labour costs are the biggest cost of food prep businesses. Big companies get round it by operating internships or apprenticeships, where you can get away with paying £2.50 an hour and you don't have to keep the apprentice on afterwards.
That fish looks good. I love fish and chips, but only when I've climbed a couple of mountains!

If your heading to the area for the mountains in this area, go to the Yorkshire ones. They are better than this place.

Nice write up and the fish looks amazing! We have a Chinese buffet near where I live and they have two sections like this place you mentioned. When the one fills up, they start moving people over into the other section. I was just there the other day and was going to take some pictures for a write up, then I got thinking "how unique is a Chinese buffet really?"

@tasteem do a chinese only food contest, so it may be worth doing.

Looks a very decent place. I became vegetarian a few months back so haven't had fish and chips for while. But this does look tasty.

Are you able to add steemitworldmap code to a Tasteem review?

There are different levels of vegetarianism I have found. Some still eat fish, I guess your not one of those?

You can add steemitworldmap code to tasteem reviews, I forget to do it sometimes.

Still experimenting with vegetarianism - more a gentle drift than a concerted effort.

I had @siamcat from Tasteem on my Food & Steem show last week. I am keen to have a go with a review on Tasteem next time we eat out.

I can’t wait to see your first review at Tasteem @pennsif . I don’t eat meat too. I like to eat Vegan and Vegetarian but also eat 1-2 a week fish. It’s a good way to keep balance for my health.
@slobbershops , you reviews are always great.

Hi @siamcat, I will let you know when I have done the first review.

Great, see you soon 😸

You keep bringing the Fish n' Chips places and I'll keep reading them with great interest!

I'm thinking my favorite fish n chips American place is a tavern on Lake Superior. They used locally caught walleye as their fish and I've eaten there twice. Wonderful!

Banny's looks like a truly wonderful place.

I think I'm clean out of Fish n' Chips places now @bigtom13. I have one more review in the bag but it's an Italian. I think you have those in AZ?

I tasted Chicken Teriyaki for the first time ever in Tempe in 1994. It was great.

Can you put your full address into the google map, @slobberchops? I gonna curate your post but the address at the end of the post is not shown fully on the google map. Thank you!
