Hoan Kiem Restaurant - Krakow
After spending days in major cities in Prague and Berlin, we came to the realization that meals at restaurants can really cost a hand and leg. In Singapore, we have hawker centres and coffeeshop where it is common to get a meal for under US$3. But in this part of Europe, every meal is in excess of $10 per pax.
So when we were in Krakow, Poland, we were so glad to find a restaurant that offer inexpensive and delicious oriental style cooking!
Bar Orientalny "Hoan Kiem" restaurant lies along the street of Starowislna, a major street leading to the Old Town area. The exterior wasn't too eye catchy and we only realised it was a restaurant after walking past it a few times.
We ordered fried beef and chicken, crab soup, rice with salad, for a total of less than 50PLN, that's just under US$13 for 2 pax! Amazingly cheap for a restaurant. And plain water is free too!
Fried beef with five flavour. A chinese styled dish that has deep flavour and generous servings of meat, mushrooms, and vegetables. This 'zi char' fried beef is so good, we are sure it will attract long queues if it is served in Singapore.
Next is a chicken with mushroom dish. Although not as good as the fried beef, this is also really yummy. The thick salty and sweet gravy mix really well with plain rice. The portion is big too and an average person will have difficulty finishing it.
A simple crab soup, not that fantastic, but a good appetizer to warm ourselves from the cold weather.
Hoan Kiem is a small restaurant with simple furnitures and decor. It was almost empty when we were there as it was already past lunch. But we could see customers coming in to collect their takeaways. With the low price tag and superb cooking, Hoan Kiem is a highly recommended place to eat in Krakow. Forget those kebab, try some Chinese delicacies instead!
