Steemit's 1st Fitness Challenge - DAY 01 - "The Before"

in #fitness8 years ago (edited)

I'm 20 years out of shape. Let's see how long it takes to fix that.

CLICK HERE for the Day 1 workout video. It's actually happening. This is a big deal for me.

Thanks to @lukestokes for motivating me to do this, this is my plan for the next few months (or probably indefinitely).

I'm going to be using an iOS fitness app called "SWORKIT" every morning for this challenge, and then every week I'll post a new video to report my progress.

For the past 20 years, I've only worked out enough times to probably literally count on my fingers.
This time, I'm using the Steemit community as my motivation to keep me going, or face the embarrassment of failing in front of everyone.
So...here we go.

Here's my "Before" video.

You beat me to it!!..well starting one soon anyway....I can tell you 100% from training a lot in the past up until about 3 months ago, and dieting at times, well more portion control, that it doesn't matter how much you work out, you have to get your macro nutrients in check otherwise the results will never be sifnificant...it all starts in the kitchen. Anway cheerios and life cereal at night before sleep are what fattens me up,lol...so that's the first thing to be deleted from my food folder:).....good luck mate hope you do well, I will keep an eye on your daily posts..... Following..hit me back if you want:) @cryptoiskey

Great stuff, Winston! Thanks for the shout out. Good luck with your challenge. Remember, it's a long term play. Marathon, not a sprint. It takes about 30 days to build a new habit. I guess I'm on day one as well. :)

Great point about the relationship between anxiety and exercise. Hurray endorphins!

What you should do is keep track of your progress visually also, so take out that camera of yours and take pictures! Mind can play tricks and changes can go unnoticed as they happen over long periods of time. I can also personally recommend heart sensor and mobile app from Polar, I've been using them to just casually track my stats. I will also have to take look in to this SWORKIT, looks promising as stretching is my achilles heel!

I just completed my first workout and recorded it. I'll post it later today sometime.

I used Sworkit before it's a really useful app for getting started and you can set it to remind you when to work out. It also has some stretching in it which I recommend you combine with your workout.

Some tips before you start:

  1. Plenty water nearby
  2. Go easy on yourself in the first week (there's no need to push yourself too hard in the beginning)
  3. Give yourself rest days

I like that you're only changing one thing because so many people try to change their entire lifestyle all at once and end up crashing and returning to their comfort zone.

I also love how you're focusing on how fitness makes you feel because there is way too much focus on appearances within the fitness industry and although obviously it does help, it's really not the best thing about being fit!

Best of luck I will be following

Thanks for the tips. I definitely had water nearby. I'm sure there will be days where I do hang back, but I plan on going as many days as my body says, "Okay, today's good. Let's do this."

Pretty sure I saw this thing on shark tank. Just play lots of Pokemon go. Should do the trick.

Haha that's actually true a lot of people are losing weight playing Pokemon Go lol. Walking is by far the best way to lose weight.

haha I really need to do a post about how I gave up video games along with exercising 20 years ago. LOL Those 2 things really did happen at about the same time, I guess. Ever since then, I played a handful of GoldenEye and some Tetris, but otherwise I don't play em'. I'm sure it would be a great workout, but if that's all it's supposed to get me to do, then I can pretend I don't have a car again....just like 20 years ago.

Good for you!! Let me know if you ever want to chat about training/diet stuff :)
