You Have The Right To Be Rich [Chapter 1 of The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace D. Wattles]

in #success7 years ago (edited)

Being rich means different things to different people. But even if to you being rich means helping homeless people, you can't do that very well if you don't have any money to give them.

Now this chapter already will blow your mind. It blew mine. Because it directly confronts so many mindsets that we have become conditioned to believe. Through school, church, family, friends, whatever. Here I am just going to highlight a few things that really stood out for me in this chapter. O yes, one more thing, what I like about this chapter, is how Wattles presents his argument in a very logical way. So logical way that youireally can't argue with it. And it is anything but super-spiritual. We all know people who are very religious but out of touch with reality. Often those people revel in the fact that they are poor. And that, Wattles says, is abnormal, even sinful.

To really open up your mind and develop your talent there are certain things you need to use. And because of the way society is organized, I cannot have these things unless I have money to buy them with.

Man's right to life means his right to have the free and unrestricted use of all the things which may be necessary to his fullest mental, spiritual, and physical unfoldment; or, in other words, his right to be rich (remember, because he needs money to buy the things he needs to fully develop his mind, soul, and body).

At this point many people will think, OK, fine but the riches he's talking about are be like figurative right? NO! No man ought to be satisfied with a little if he is capable of using and enjoying all that can contribute to the power, elegance, beauty, and richness of life. "To be content with less is sinful."

Wattles then also gives us a definition of being rich: "The man who owns all he wants for the living of all the life he is capable of living is rich; and no man who has not plenty of money can have all he wants." I love the way he just says it as it is. He uses phrases like "plenty of money". I love it!

He also unashamedly explains why this book is so important.

"Life has advanced so far, and become so complex, that even the most ordinary man or woman requires a great amount of wealth in order to live in a manner that even approaches completeness. Every person naturally wants to become all that they are capable of becoming; this desire to realize innate possibilities is inherent in human nature; we cannot help wanting to be all that we can be. Success in life is becoming what you want to be; you can become what you want to be only by making use of things, and you can have the free use of things only as you become rich enough to buy them. To understand the science of getting rich is therefore the most essential of all knowledge."

So he's kind of saying that the topic of this book is the most essential of all knowledge! If you think about it, look at how many personal development books are sold each year. Chicken Soup for the Soul sold over 500 million copies. That is truly incredible, that is almost one out of ten people on the face of the earth. The Secret sold over 20 million copies but it came out after the movie.

Why is it so important to have plenty of money? Because you cannot live fully without:

  1. Good food, comfortable clothing, and warm shelter
  2. Freedom from excessive toil.
  3. Rest and recreation.
  4. Books and time to study them.
  5. Opportunity for travel and observation
  6. Intellectual companionship
  7. Objects of art and beauty he is capable of using and appreciating.
  8. Love, which is denied expression by poverty.

More reasons why it is of "supreme importance" that you be rich, and

  1. Giving is the thing that makes you happiest
  2. Love finds its most natural and spontaneous expression in giving.
  3. You can't be a proper husband or father, or citizen, or even a man, if you don't can't give because you are not rich.

I keep quoting it because the writer says it so concisely and to the point. He ends the chapter with the following words: "If you neglect this study, you are derelict in your duty to yourself, to God and humanity; for you can render to God and humanity no greater service than to make the most of yourself."

Many gurus say in order to be successful you need to first work on yourself. Are you into personal development books? You know, like Tony Robbins, Les Brown, Oprah, Robert Kijosaki, and thousands of others? I discovered something interesting.

Most, if not all, worthwhile personal development books use the principles from The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Whittal, a book that was published in 1910. The Science of Getting Rich, in turn, gets its principles from The Bible!

Rhonda Byrne, the famous author who wrote the bestseller The Secret, said that The Science of Getting Rich was "the secret behind The Secret".

I don't know if you've experienced the same, but at some point you just feel like network marketing is not for you or some people are just lucky.

You may be sick and tired of trying to succeed in network marketing on your own. You may even have given up already, like the overwhelming majority of people do.

Most people then blame the company or other people or their circumstances for their lack of success.

But how about just plugging into a scientifically proven system designed by Robert Hollis, an industry guru who has earned over $50 million in commissions and helped over fifty people earn more than $1 million dollars per year.

Robert provides all the material you need to promote him and the system, and build up a loyal customer base of people who know, like, and trust you. And best of all, it is free!!!

What utter garbage!

Money has no value!

The value of the money is represented by the production of real goods and services. If there were no real goods and services to buy, money would not have any value.

Imagine the planet populated only by bankers, lawyers, accountants, advertisers, politicians, and not to be forgotten, the turkey that wrote the books referred to in this post. It would be great for the planet because nothing would be happening, no production. They would be naked, starving, have nowhere to live, no cars or roads, no nothing, and their money would have no value.

The key phrase is “their money would have no value”, and this is because the sectors I have named produce nothing of primary value. Please don’t get me wrong, a complex society requires the secondary services described above but they are not entitled to a disproportionate share, of that they do not produce.

The only cause of poverty is disproportionate wealth. In order for one individual to be disproportionately wealthy many must live in poverty.
