“It looks like they are trying to shoot the dragons with arrows.” Carol observed.

“The dragons are too high to be affected by arrows, unless maybe one is hit in the eye.”

“Vestas you don’t know my real name or that much about me and I lied a little bit.”

“Later Carol, we need to watch in case the dragons come this way.”

“They are swooping in again for another blast of flames.” Carol watched as the dragons flew much lower this time. The ones that could spit fire shot out flames and then they all dove and snatched up their prey with their jaws. Like eagles diving at rabbits. They swooped in; their jaws closed, and up the dragons soared while they chewed. She could see them swallow then the dragons turned and found someone else to eat and down they dove. “The arrows don’t seem to have much effect.”

“We are too far away to see but – look one dragon just fell, a smaller one.” Vestas said.

“That great dragon just dove, took a mouthful, and grabbed the wounded dragon.”

“It is probably not dead then.”

“It looks like it is heading this way with the wounded dragon.” Carol observed.

“It is I am going to drag you into the forest now before it flies up here and sees us.” Vestas grabbed Carol and jumped back into the trees. Less than a minute later, the great dragon with the lesser dragon in its claws flew over the edge of the summit and set the dragon down next to the pool.

“It-, “Carol started to say.

“Shush,” Vestas silenced her.

The great dragon pulled the arrows out of the wounded dragon with its teeth and claws. The wounded dragon looked like it had been assaulted by a porcupine or maybe it was a pin cushion. It took the great dragon some time to pull the arrows out and every time it did, the lesser dragon made a noise of pain, a tiny roar compared to what it was capable of doing.

Once all the arrows were out, the great dragon stuck its huge maw into the pool and sucked up most of the water. It then grabbed the maw of the lesser dragon, opened it and dribbled some of the water into its mouth. The rest of the water it spit onto the arrow wounds. Within a few minutes, the lesser dragon sat up.

The lesser dragon was now alert and healed. It flapped its wings and the great dragon saw that the little dragon recovered much. The great dragon then made a huge wind with the flap of its wings and lifted up off the ground, turned once it was high enough and soared down over the edge, likely to rejoin the attack on the Kror encampment below. Soon, maybe less than five minutes passed and then the lesser dragon walked to the edge of the summit and soared back down to valley below.

Vestas whispered, “Move back into the trees further Carol and be very quiet.”

“Okay.”
