Love Lessons, Chapter 2.2 of Purgatory
It was a wonderful sunny day. Vestas and Carol lay on their bellies at edge on the edge of the summit of the mountain and looked below. They could see far into the distance, “This is a splendid view of a dragon about to attack the Krors and their Groots.”
“That is a dragon?” Carol observed, “It looks like it is turning away.”
“I think you are right. It is turning away and that is unusual, they usually attack.”
“No look, it is flying away to the right. Is it fire breathing like in the stories?”
“Some are and some are not. Maybe it thinks there are too many Krors out there to attack.” Vestas observed and then said, “Unlike the rest of us, the dragons are real flesh.”
Excited, Carol fired a slew of questions. “They are? How do you know? And why would they attack spirits if they are real flesh? How could they see us?”
“Those are a lot of questions and most I do not know the answer to other than they can be killed and they eat the spirits. Dragons find humans very tasty as far as I know. We take a long time to digest.”
“How do you know we take a long time to digest, did you examine dragon poop or something?”
“Yes, I examined it very closely several times because I was in it.”
“You have been eaten by a dragon?”
“Several times and it is a horrible, long lasting experience so we shall try to avoid it ever happening again. For one thing, it will completely drain us. We won’t be able to do things like make wonderful areas with streams, pools, and date palms for a long while afterwards.”
“We won’t be able to jump from place to place?” Carol asked.
“We won’t be able to do anything and what is worse. The dragons try to keep us prisoners and eat us once we begin to have our abilities again. Like I said, I have examined dragon poop personally many times.”
Carol laughed out loud and could not stop laughing, "That is horrible my dear Vestas." She kissed him, "And how did you escape?"
"I will tell you later, right now let's pay attention, it is a lesson."
