“He escaped!” Asmodeus yelled as he looked in the wreck. Everyone that was alive in the wreckage he killed, “Foolish worms.” He said as he ripped them apart.

One of the Chinooks flew overhead and landed to the side of the other wrecked Chinook. Men filed out some to search the wreck. Others took up positions to flank the captain on either side. Once empty of soldiers, the Chinook immediately took off and headed away.

“Spread out!” The captain ordered as he walked toward Asmodeus who stood outside the wrecked helicopter. He held his piece before him.

“Found it sir!” The captain heard a man yell from inside a part of the wrecked chopper that was behind him and his men. “Halt!” He ordered his men. “Form a team on our left!” He yelled to those searching the wreckage.

Immediately, those in the wreckage formed up on the left flank and the soldier that found the piece was in the center of their group. He held it before him as well.

“Sergeant, call in reinforcements to our position. Tell them there are pillars here. Report the casualties.”

“Yes sir.” His sergeant called back.

“Lock and load!” The Captain yelled. All told, there were perhaps forty men and they obeyed. “Forward!”

The two groups walked toward Asmodeus in a pincer movement.

“They think that because I have made myself a little larger than they that I have lessened power, Fools!” Asmodeus said to himself. “My spawn – feast on our enemies.

Rephael stood in between. The pain was agony, excruciating. The shrapnel in his shoulder pierced the shoulder strap of his pack. He pulled the shard in his shoulder out. He groaned. It was about as big as the blade of a butcher knife and had not hit bone. It was maybe an inch deep and an inch cut.

He took off his pack. There was a first aid kit in it and he applied an bandage to the shoulder wound.

He undid his ties on his pant leg. The piece in his shin was not nearly as big but there was nothing but the fabric of his pants so it went deeper. He readied a bandage and a pad.

Rephael took a deep breath, grabbed the shard in his shin, and pulled. He screamed. It hurt so badly. He screamed while he put the pad in place. He wrapped the bandage around his bare leg and it immediately began to hurt less.

The bandage wrapped around his leg about ten times and he tucked it off. Then he pulled down his pant leg and retied it.

Rephael took the piece out of his pack. Then repacked everything and tied up his pack. It hurt but he put on his pack.

In one hand he held his pistol and in the other hand he held the piece. He took a few steps. It hurt but not nearly as bad as when the shard was in his leg and shoulder.

The spawn began to come out of Asmodeus and move toward the group of men approaching from in front of his left and right. Ten spawn were out, six fliers and four walkers. The soldiers, about a hundred yards away opened fire.

An eleventh spawn emerged from Asmodeus when Rephael stepped from the in between behind Asmodeus. He moved forward as fast as he could from where he stepped out of the in between in the helicopter wreckage.

Asmodeus heard something behind him and was in the act of turning when Rephael touched Asmodeus with the piece as he blasted away with his pistol at Asmodeus and the spawn.

“ARGH!” Horrified, Asmodeus roared loud enough to where the valley seemed to shake.

“Charge!” The Captain ordered his men. “Charge! Charge! Charge!” He yelled as loud as he could as he ran forward. He wondered if the others could hear him so loud was the bellowed scream of Asmodeus.
