There were two enlisted, mounted flag bearers with them on either side. One held the regiment colors, the other flew the flag of the United States.

Cyrus walked over to the front of the play yard and waited. Holk was inside the play yard fence and the gate was closed.

The horses with the men came to a uniformed halt on the command of the man who had to be General Scott, "I am General Scott, Commander of the Fourth Cavalry Regiment Expeditionary Force. First I would like to say that we come in peace, and second, as a precaution, this ranch is completely surrounded."

"Welcome to my ranch, to you and your men General Scott." Cyrus said.

"It has been a long expedition, do you mind if we dismount and I call for tables and chairs to be brought while we parley during our truce?" General Scott asked.

"Feel free to dismount and call for whatever you need." Cyrus said.

"Captain Falworth, order up the supply train." General Scott stated and dismounted. "Would here be a good location?" The General asked and pointed to the open area between the house and the outer fence."

"That would be a fine and acceptable location." Cyrus answered. "General we were attacked this morning."

"Yes, I know an unfortunate incident. We will get to that during the parley." General Scott said as he approached, he held out his hand to shake Cyrus's. Cyrus took his hand, shook it, and introduced himself, "I am Cyrus Weeks and this is my ranch. This is my hand Lewis Holk."

"General Phineas Scott. I am pleased to meet you Cyrus Weeks and you Lewis Holk." General Scott said.

“Pleased to meet you,” Cyrus said after releasing the General’s hand.

“Pleased to meet you,” Holk said after the General shook and released his hand.

“Before the tables and chairs arrive,” General said, “We came here because we heard a story that something fell out of the sky here and there was a big fire and that what fell out of the sky was very strange.”

“We can talk all about that once we are seated and to do so will require a lot of explanations I cannot really give you. My wife knows what they are far better than I do. So I must have your complete assurances for her safety and the safety of Lewis Holk’s wife before I would introduce her. Also, since that is why you have come to examine what has occurred and because of the attack my family is coming up on your north flank. I want their safety guaranteed as well. They know far more than I do about what fell out of the sky as they rescued two men at the time. I never went and looked at what happened. I never talked to the two men they rescued. You would want to interview all of them as what they would have to tell is unbelievable. Yes, all of it is more than unbelievable. What do you say to that?”
“I’ll give the orders to my men, if you excuse me for a moment.” Cyrus nodded and then General excused himself and went to Captain Falworth with several orders.

Captain Falworth and a number of the Lieutenants mounted their horses and left the assemblage. Cyrus heard the supply wagons off in the distance as they approached his ranch.

“You have my assurances of everyone’s safety.” General Scott said to Cyrus after he finished with orders for his men. “Since they witnessed what happened, we will escort them here and while under the truce we shall conduct an investigation.”

“Prepare yourself.” Cyrus said, “You will never believe what happened here but I swear to you it is true what you will hear and see.”

“Try me.” General Scott said.

“They came from the future, the year 2012.” Cyrus stated.

“What? Are you mad?” General Scott asked.

“Everything I say, will be proved to you once you begin your investigation. There is no doubt of it.” Cyrus said as he watched the first wagon enter the gate of the outer fence. “Wagons here.”
“What?” General Scott asked. One could tell he was absolutely in a state of disbelief Cyrus thought. “Oh yes, Sergeant let’s get the campaign tables and chairs here and set the cook to refreshments.”

“Yes sir,” The Sergeant saluted and then he formed a detail of the enlisted and those on the wagons to help set up the meeting tables and he notified the cook.

“Do you have a privy?” The General asked. Cyrus told him it was around back and General Scott excused himself in the direction Cyrus pointed. After General Scott left Cyrus knocked on his front door and said it was him.

Mindy opened the door and Cyrus told her she would be called to talk to the General and that she should bring the things from the future when he called for her. Mindy said okay and then closed the door. She bolted the door closed.

Once the door was closed, Mindy set to dressing herself up in the best of the clothes she had left from their clothes buying spree in Fillmore. She decided to wear blue jeans, a blouse, and her lace up boots for hiking. It was chilly so she also put on her parka. It was not in good condition, worn but the zipper still worked. She had her shoulder purse as an accessory. It was brown vinyl and shiny.

There were a number of soldiers out there she saw when she had peaked past Cyrus. It made her nervous that there were so many soldiers at the ranch after the battle. Cyrus had told her nothing about what was about to happen other than she would be interviewed. She waited and worried. Oh yes, Cyrus wanted the General to see their marriage license. They were married in 2012.
While Mindy dressed and made herself presentable, General Scott returned and the tables and chairs were put in place. Cyrus, Holk, General Scott and his remaining Lieutenant took seats on opposite sides of the two tables set next to one another.

A sergeant, who was a clerk, was ready with paper and pen to act as a clerk or secretary. Cyrus and Holk held their rifles in their right hands while they sat.

General Scott cleared his throat and then spoke, “I saw you fire your pistols and rifles through my spyglass and now that I see them up close I am most interested in them. May I inquire where they came from because I have never witnessed such precise artillery so lightly carried and so deadly.”

“These we bought in Fillmore.” Cyrus said.

“Bought them in Fillmore? Where?” General Scott asked.

“I bought them in a store which will not exist for more than a hundred years from now.” Cyrus answered. Holk gasped. Mindy and Cyrus never said too much about their history. They treated him like family just like Cyrus said he was now that he had seen Rephael’s hand. Cyrus never told him the name of the person with the hand that came from nowhere. He never said what was on the note attached to the thing he held then put back which the hand took.

General Scott raised an eyebrow at Cyrus and then looked at Holk for a moment. “You did not know this?” He asked Holk. Holk shook his head in response.
“Do you have any proof of this at all?” General Scott asked skeptically.

“Oh I have a lot of proof. He showed the General his rifle. The date of manufacture is stamped right here, look please.” Cyrus held out his rifle so General Scott could see the tiny stamp.

“I cannot seem to see that, Lieutenant can you read that?” General Scott said.

Cyrus moved the rifle toward the Lieutenant who leaned over the table to read what was on the underside of the barrel. He read it, “Browning and Company. Made in U.S.A. Date of Manufacture April 7th, 2010.” Then he read the serial number. That is all of it sir.”

“Incredible - Do all of the pieces have such a thing on them?” General Scott asked.

“All,” Cyrus said, “Are you alright Holk, General Scott, Everyone else?”

“I don’t know. How can that happen? How can it be true?” Holk stammered. He was frightened. Cyrus could tell.

“Didn’t you ever look at these dates?” General Scott asked Holk.

“I can’t read.” Holk answered. This was not uncommon at that time in history. “Cyrus never told me anything like this. He just showed me how to use them.”

“I suppose that you don’t talk about this much?” General Scott inquired of Cyrus.

“Who would believe it?” Cyrus answered.

“True. I am not sure I believe it myself.” General Scott said suspiciously.

“You will. Do you have any other questions you want to ask me?” Cyrus said.

“You went into the future and bought these?” Scott asked.

“Yes.” Cyrus replied.

“How did you do that?” General Scott asked.

“I do not know how it happened but you see that fence there, the other side of the fence used to be the year 2012 and that lasted for quite some time.” Cyrus responded.

“This appears to be completely preposterous, do you have any other proof?” Scott said.
“Oh, I have so much proof that you might suffer from what my wife calls ‘future shock’.” Cyrus said.

“Future shock,” General Scott asked, “What is that?”

“It is what happens to people in our time when they realize what the future is like, the future takes our fancy, all of our thoughts and leaves us stunned.” Cyrus continued, “My wife said what flew in here and crashed, exploded were what were called ‘fighter jets’.”

“And how does she know?” General Scott asked.

“She is from the future General Scott. She walked in here from the future.”

“Can we meet her?” Scott asked.

“I have had her dress in similar clothes she bought in the future and we brought her. Please do not call her a whore. This is normal in that time, I saw it.” Cyrus said.

“Very well, I would be delighted to meet your wife.” General Scott said.

“I will get her.” Cyrus said excusing himself. While he walked to the door, Scott questioned Holk. Scott asked Holk if his wife was from the future as well. Holk said he did not think so. He was almost certain of it. He was certain of it until now and as they talked, Cyrus knocked on the door, Mindy answered. “Are you ready to be interviewed by General Scott?” Cyrus asked.

“Are we in trouble?” Mindy asked.

“You are not but he has not said about me and Holk but I think when he meets you, he will forget about us. They heard about the jets.”

“Yes, I will cause him to forget just about everything while I talk to him.” Mindy smiled.

“Come with me dear and I will introduce you to him, General Scott.” Cyrus said and Mindy nodded. Cyrus led her to the table. As Mindy walked, soldiers snickered. Her blouse was low cut, hair straight and long. Her makeup was impeccable. Myra looked and then closed and bolted the door.

“All you men will remain on guard and at attention!” General Scott ordered as he stood.

He moved around the table with the Lieutenant following and stepped forward to meet Mindy.

“General Scott, Lieutenant Peters, may I introduce my wife Mindy Weeks.” Cyrus stopped and then said.

General Scott held out his hand in a genteel manner which Mindy took, “I am pleased and startled to meet someone so lovely, Mrs. Mindy Weeks.” He kissed the back of her hand, looked into her eyes and said, “General Phineas Reginald Scott, Commander, Fourth Cavalry Regiment, United States Expeditionary Force.”

“Pleased to meet you General Scott,” Mindy stated while she smiled. “No one has ever introduced themselves to me in so sophisticated a manner.”

“I am taken at the injustice Madam, would you deign to join us at the table, if you please?” General Scott still held her hand.

“You are so gracious, General Scott, I would love to speak with you.” Mindy replied.

“Please call me Phineas Mrs. Weeks and may I escort you to your seat?” General Scott was taken with Mindy.

“Please do Phineas,” Mindy replied.

“With your permission, Mr. Weeks?” Scott asked Cyrus.

“You have my permission, Sir.” Cyrus answered. Once they were seated they talked for hours of Mindy her life, her clothes, and what she had in her purse.
