Four Bonfires were lit at the corners of the dance area to the east of the buffet tables so dancers could see while they danced. While the crowd moved over there to that area Cyrus brought over Louise to the table.

Louise was 31 years old, full figured, with long red curly hair. She had full, pouty lips, and sparkling green eyes, she was an inch shorter than Mindy. The General and Pa stood and Cyrus introduced her to Phineas Scott.

“Louise Satchette may I introduce to you General Phineas Scott, commander of the Fourth Expeditionary Cavalry regiment,” Cyrus stated casually, “General this is Louise Satchette, our aunt.”

Taking her hand, “Mrs. Satchette, call me Phineas, if you would like.” He took her hand and kissed it while looking into her eyes.

“Yes, Phineas, and feel free to call me Louise.”

“Louise, would you care to join our conversation?” Phineas asked. She was fetching, very good looking.

“Yes, I would be pleased to hear much about you.”

“Trooper fetch that chair to the table for the lady.” The General ordered.

Quickly a chair was brought and Phineas helped Louise into the seat and the conversation started with a toast by Pa, “To meetings in the far corners of the world and to dance dances a soldier never expects to find.”

“Cheers,” Everyone responded.

“Sister Evelyn, had we only known the day would be so lovely with such interesting company, we could have donned our finery instead of trail dresses.” Louise gazed upon Phineas but the question was to Ma.

“How true Sister Louise,” Ma answered, “Now where has that Senette run off to, I don’t see her?”

“Ma, she is over there near the roasting pit with Captain Falworth.” Cyrus answered.

“Oh yes, I see her in the firelight,” Ma said, relaxing that her youngest was within eyesight.

The conversation drifted across many topics and all was around General Scott and Louise. Neither had any children and Phineas’s wife, Janet, had passed in child birth with their first child seventeen years ago. To soothe his grief he lost himself in his military career.

Louise had no children and she would like at least one. Her husband Jared, a second cousin, died from a fever a few years after they built their house. Or so everyone thought that was the cause. There was no doctor anywhere nearby; Ma was the healer for the clan.

“No, I have never been in a war.” Phineas Scott said, “I have participated in several actions against the Indian, rogues, bandits, and robbers and was chosen to lead this expedition.

"Louise, if I may be forward?" Phineas asked.

"Please do, Phineas."

"You look exceedingly lovely, no matter what you wear."

"Thank you for the compliment Phineas and you are a handsome, genteel, stately man."

"Why thank you," He replied, "The music sounds tuned, shall we all dance?"

"I don't know any of these dances, Cyrus and I have never danced together." Mindy said.

"Oh they are easy to learn dear," Cyrus replied, "Come, let's join the others and dance our first dance."

"Sounds like a reel," Phineas said as they rose from the table, "Your hand Louise?" Louise took his arm instead and together all strolled arm in arm out the play gate.
