It was very early in the morning and Jonah could smell the freshness in the air.  The snow made everything look so perfect and clean.  He took a deep breath and then shivered, so he pulled his beanie over his ears. Even the roads were covered in nearly three inches of snow, and everything looked so bright and clear.

He followed Terrence around the corner and they took a left turn at the next corner. Jonah had no idea where they were going and he struggled to keep up with Terrence's long steps.

Then Jonah saw it. In the middle of the park they put up the biggest Christmas tree he has ever seen in his life. It was so beautiful and he was mesmerized by the gigantic size.  Jonah couldn't believe his eyes and he stood there with his mouth open.

He looked up and could hardly see the top of the tree.  The snow on the green leaves made him think of the silver tinsel he always helped to put in the tree with his mom. Somehow the tree reminded him of his dad too and he felt a sense of love when he touched the familiar pine needles. Suddenly he missed his mom and dad so much and he wished that things could be different.  Terrence wiped the tear trickling down his face and he pulled him closer to give him some warmth.

"It's beautiful Terrence...this is the most beautiful tree I have ever seen in my life."

"I knew you would like it." Terrence said and grabbed a handful of snow and threw it at Jonah.  The snow broke the sadness and they played around in the snow for a few minutes until Terrence said: "Come on, it's too cold to be outside I don't want you to get sick now. Let's go and grab some coffee to warm up."

Terrence started walking and Jonah reluctantly followed him, but he looked back over his shoulder and nearly fell over his own feet.  To see the tree in all it's glory was the most beautiful sight he has ever seen.

Terrence bought them each a cup of hot cocoa and they walked back to the alley while sipping on their hot drinks. When they took the last turn to get back to the alley, Jonah ran ahead to get back to his shelter but he stopped dead in his tracks when he saw someone he never wanted to see in his life again.  Right in front of him was Jack.  Feelings of hatred rushed through him and he turned around and hid behind Terrence.

Terrence could see the panic in his eyes, and he pulled him closer as if to protect him.

"I can't go back Terrence, I just can't....Jack is going to kill me!"

Terrence knew that Jonah was now in flight mode.  He tried to grab him but Jonah turned around and ran away. He had to get away as far as possible.
