The Journey

in #story7 years ago

A scholar and a farmer who had been friends for a number of years decided to go on a journey together. They planned to rent a boat for their journey as they would be travelling on sea. They were friends but they had different views when it came to the things of the world.

The scholar considered education the most important thing and was often theoretical and the farmer was more practical believing in hard work. The scholar was always advising the farmer to go to school, graduate and get a job, but the farmer always asked him, who will grow the food you eat?

The day for the journey came and they both headed to the harbour to start of their journey. They had been friends for years and they both never married or had children. They had never travelled for fun, so decided to go on this journey just to see the world.

Halfway through their journey, the sea got violent. The waves shook the boot from one side to another. They were thrown against the sides of the boat until they both fell unconscious. They woke up on the shores of a land with no luggage and no money. They had to do something.

They went around asking for food and clothing from the natives and only got a few. They had to do something for money very soon or the natives will get tired of them and stop feeding them. They came together to draw a plan.

The scholar said, "I've noticed that there are no schools here. I could start a school". The farmer then said, "why do you only think of school? Won't you have to eat first? What do we do now for food? I will go to the forest to hunt for some animals. The natives rely on the sea for fish so animals will be a rare treat. We could make a living from that".

The scholar agreed and they both went to the forest to hunt and went to sell their catch to the village. They became well known and very rich from the sales and decided to stay in the land. Practical knowledge had saved them, and not the education of the scholar.
