WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A MUSE (An Original Poem)

in #story8 years ago (edited)

The choir of our
voices rise up
from the babel of
muttered curses

life seems like such
a slow burn but
as the world turns
we learn it’s
never a place we
will linger for long

as our world is slowly
sinking into the sea
there is beauty
in this broken world,
beauty inside of you and me

poetry glistens
amongst brittle rhetoric,
an antidote to the vain
proving there is perfection
within the imperfection
of the mundane

it is our job
to create the light
that shines into
the dark places
of trying times
and to remind
others that amongst
the pain there
is also the sublime.

This is what it means to be a Muse.

I wrote this poem today. What inspired it was a story that caught my attention on social media. Francine Christophe, a holocaust survivor, shared an incredible tale of human dignity and grace amongst the horrific atrocities of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.

I started thinking about how we, as individuals, can bring light into the world, no matter how ugly it is. This is how the poem was born.

Francine’s full story can he found here. I promise it’s worth five minutes of your time.

Love your poem, full of beautiful words. The beauty of this world is magnified by the beauty that is present in each and everyone of us. I write poems too.

That beautiful poem, beautiful words to use in its development Thank you for spreading

My pleasure. Thank you, @jlufer!

I love when someone else's story, or a moment in our own life, sparks a poem, and with that we can paint its impression and give the moment or the story further permanence, but with sound and color.

Thanks, @geke. I like when that happens too. This piece hit me like lightning and almost came to me all at once. Thankfully I had my phone with me and I was able to write it down.

Oh! I write with my phone, too! Meaning, I write things on napkins and photograph them. :)

Very nice. It reminds me of the Bible passage that goes something like: nobody lights a lantern only to put it under a blanket in the corner of the room; you light it to put it on the coffee table so everyone can see and feel the warmth.

So great, Eric. It's powerful. Each time I read it I discover something new. And that story is exactly like a light in the darkness. The will to survive is deep.

Thank you, my friend! The creative process is fascinating. No matter how many times these come to me in a flash like this I'm always in awe. The will to survive is deep, so is the beauty of the good.

I agree, life is imperfect by far. But there is beauty where-ever we are. ☺♪☻♫☺ Very nice poem @ericvancewalton.

Beautiful poem.

Hey Eric. Your poems and novels are really amazing. I love your way of writing, it is a complete opposite to what I write :)

I really appreciate the time you spend on this platform and the amount of content you produce. It is unbelievable.

One thing I noticed is that you always try to touch different angles of human psychology and emotions. It is the main key I guess.

On top of that each of your poem is really the best. I address this in my new poem. It is very important to deliver great quality, and you're doing a spectacular job on this one.

Waiting for your new poems,
Dmitriy :)

I really appreciate your reply, @dmitriybtc! Best of luck to you in your writing! It's great to hear from fellow writers!

@ericwancewalton, always a pleasure to read from you. It takes so much more to put words together so they make sense and have meaning to the readers. May your creative mind continue to wax stronger. Thanks as always.

Thank you, @dephia16! I appreciate your comment and the fact that you keep coming back.
