The bandits still dominated the night as they shot sporadically into the air, and students kept still in fear in their respective rooms, and even giant hostel rats which normally disturb at night took cover in fear, and seriously the sound of a robbers gun at night is more deadlier than a killer disease and only the deafening sound of their gun is strong enough to cause panick even to a warrior, and one other thing about it, is that you can never tell the direction they are shooting at, and besides many students have already lost their lives the previous year in such incident, however the people with the highest casualty rate is often the hostel gate men, cos most times they are not spared,
hmmmm, i shivered in fear, but then i controlled myself because of Christy, and truthfully supposing she wasn’t with me that night, i could have seeked for a safer place to hide, but then since she was with me, i really had no choice but to wait calmly inside my room with her, besides the bandits are not yet in our hostel…..

.

Gbim! gbim! gbim! Was soon heard on the doors of the hostel opposite us as they broke into their rooms in a commando fashion, and truthfully i don’t really know how these guys train themselves to do such things with speed, cos they always appear organised with a commander and field units each playing their own role, and the way they do break doors, hmmm, will even make “Big Show or Mark Henry” gasp in surprise, but then the only hinderance or set back they do have then, was the issue of guns and ammunition, cos they always do make use of locally made guns with one or two double barrell at times, and so they were no match for our nigerian police…

Please don’t ask me how i got to know all these, but then if you have ever lived in a jungle or such kind of place before, then you will know that there are certain things which your environment would teach you and you will really get to know things which are out of the ordinary…..
.
A sharp single noise from a whistle was soon heard, 15mins after they broke into the hostel opposite ours, and the sound of that whistle really told me that it wasn’t a student security or alarm whistle, cos students do blow their own whistle twice or even thrice when seeking for help every student do have a whistle incase of robbery incident, but no one do have the mind to blow it when robbery is in progress and so we still kept calm in fear…..

A minute later the noise from a police siren was heard after that first whistle, and within seconds two police vans screeched to a stop as officers jumped out combat ready, but then where are the robbers?,
.
hmmmm, lo and behold they had all disappeared into thin air……..
::::::::::::::::
Doors began opening as noises and screams from students intensified, while hostel gate men and other hostel securities, with hostel presidents, and some other brave students came out to meet the police men who flashed their touches randomly and in readiness for any eventuality, and Christy held me in relieve “thank God” she whispered and i kissed her lips, “you don die wake up 5times tonight” i said to her with a smile, and she laughed before standing up, “let's go to the balcony and watch what is happening” she said to me and i gently followed her to the balcony where we watched the policemen as they discussed with some students, and we heaved a sigh of relief once more…….
.
But then i almost ran into the evil side of the police that same morning when i visited Frank to gist him on the latest development.
.
The time was around 11am that same quiet morning, when i strolled from Okwu Uratta to Aladinma in order to see Frank, cos i was unable to go to school that day, “let me reach Frank’s place i’m coming” i had said to Christy before leaving her that morning, and due to the robbery incident earlier that morning (middle of the night) Many police Vans were patrolling Okwu Uratta road that day, but then i really did not give them any second thought as i went to Frank's hostel……
.
I had barely settled down in Frank's room, when two policemen from the anti terrorism squad (ATS) entered his room, “did anybody just enter this room”, they asked us while Frank and i shook our heads the same time, “nobody entered here” Frank answered them, as one of the policemen opened his toliet and looked inside but he saw no one, “two of you should go outside we are searching for a suspect” he said to us and we obeyed him without any argument and went out to the front of the hostel, where we were surprised to see other occupants of the hostel already outside in a large group as they discussed among themselves, while about six well armed ATS Policemen faced them with a young guy whom was wearing only a short knicker, and the policemen looked at the crowd of students with their ferocious eyes in readiness for action, before the inspector in-charge of the team came forward, “we are chasing a suspect who ran into this hostel, if you are the one kindly come out now” he ordered and waited for a while but nobody came out, “the whole visitors in this hostel step aside” he ordered in anger and few students stepped out in fear, while i myself stood where i was, cos my fear couldn’t even allow me to find my feet, supposing they were mobile policemen (mopol), most students wouldn’t have panicked but then, these guys are ATS hmmmm, i reserve my comment…..

The inspector looked at us with a frown, and i knew that he suspected that not every visitor came out, “corporal bring that idiot forward” he ordered one of his men who immediately brought the suspect who was only on his knicker forward, “point your friend” the inspector ordered as he slapped him at the back of his head as he stepped forward and the boy’s eyes searched frantically before resting on a boy standing close to me and seriously when he first pointed to the boy standing beside me, my heart had jumped as i thought i was the one he pointed, but then he came forward and tapped the guy whom two corporals immediately pounced upon without verifying whether he really is the person they are looking for, slapping, hitting, kicking and flogging him at the same time in front of the whole students and this time around, my mind flew, while the question on everybody’s lips was “what did they do”
and we gasped as we watched two policemen brutalize a boy, who screamed and begged as the trained officers taught him “kick boxing” that morning
