A Sudden Realization
"The road to hell is paved with works-in-progress."
- Philip Roth -
Fifty words; always a fun exercise.
In keeping with the season, @jayna's weekly prompt, is "ghost."
Rarely content to go with "dictionary meaning one," I have once again found another way. I hope you find it amusing.

A Sudden Realization
by Duncan Cary Palmer
Ben was sweating a looming deadline.
His mortgage was past-due. No way could he afford the penalty for late delivery of this vanity manuscript.
Ben continued typing desperately, despite cramped coach seating on the red-eye to New York.
Suddenly pausing, he chuckled to himself.
"I'm a ghostwriter in the sky."

You are why I'm here on Steemit!
I have very eclectic interests and hope, over time, to write about them all.
Ha haa, so creative, I love it.
Why, thank you so much for the compliment! :)
Sigh, people pay (and often good money) for vanity manuscripts,
but nothing for well thought out, researched and illuminative blog posts.
Sad, but true...
Maybe we're playing to the wrong audience? i.e. a bunch of other ghostwriters? ;)
Looks like Ben is taking it all in relatively good stride
Ben is tough, dedicated, and has a good sense of humor. ;)
Ah ha ha! I love this. And of course the allusion to the classic Johnny Cash song is wonderful!
Thanks!
I thought some of my fellow writers might appreciate this one... ;)

Wow, Yoselina!
How lovely to "hear" your voice once again! ;)
Brings new meaning to fly by night.
LOL!
It is certainly amusing. Great use of the prompt. The ironies of language.
I have long found language, with all its irregularities and ambiguities, to be endlessly fascinating. ;)
Isn't it strange as we approach Halloween that our writing becomes populated with ghosts?
LOL!
In your case, perhaps "more populated" might be a better description... ;)
