Mankind has always been mystified by the pyramids. At first, we thought they were just elaborate tombs for ancient Egyptian royalty. But we never found corpses or mummies in them. Then why in heaven’s name did the ancient Egyptians spent decades building these giant triangular structures and for what damn purpose?

The mystery does not stop there as there are plenty of pyramids all over the world. And so, we list down the top 8 mysteries of the pyramids you never know about.

1. The Great Pyramid of Giza Has 8 Sides

in 1940 a British pilot discovered that each of the four sides of the Great Pyramid at Giza, Egypt, were actually split in two by a concave indentation, creating eight equal sides. The four faces of the pyramid are slightly concave, the only pyramid to have been built this way.

The centers of the four sides are indented with an incredible degree of precision forming the only 8 sided pyramid; this effect is visible only from the air, and then only under the proper lighting conditions. This phenomenon is only detectable from the air at dawn and sunset on the spring and autumn equinoxes, when the sun casts shadows on the pyramid.

2. Pyramids are Not Exclusive to Egypt Only

Egypt does not have a monopoly on pyramids. There were pyramid building cultures even outside of Egypt. They existed during different timelines of the Earth’s history. One thing stands out among pyramid building cultures; they all possessed advanced knowledge of mathematics, astronomy and the earth’s geophysical properties.

How did these cultures and races, separated by geography and time, have the same idea in building without contacting each other?

3. The Pyramids Are Not Really Tombs?

No bodies have ever been found in the Great Pyramid or in many pyramids around South America. The non-existence of corpses has been attributed to grave robbers and archaeologists taking anything that was transportable. But that doesn’t explain why the Pyramids didn’t contain any burial items such as a sarcophagus.

But if they weren’t constructed as tombs then what was the point of their construction?

4. What Was Their Purpose?

Some speculate they were used to store grain or valuables, but any theory that believes these amazing structures were just ancient large warehouses or vaults is far too shallow to explore. One interesting idea looks first at where the Pyramids were built. The Egyptians constructed the Great Pyramid in the geographical center of the Earth along specific lines of latitude and longitude; almost perfectly oriented to the four points of the compass, facing true north more accurately than any structure built before or since.

One credible theory actually unites the pyramids of the Egyptians and the Mayans with the incredible mathematical knowledge needed to build them. Pyramids from both cultures have been specifically aligned with certain star constellations. The Pyramids of Giza and Teotihuacan both reflect and point to the Constellation of Orion because both cultures consider the stars as gods.

5. There Still Secret Rooms and Passageways to Explore

Beneath the Sphinx and within the Great Pyramid sonar and radar technology has uncovered a few ancient secrets. They are believed to contain many small passages which have lain untouched by man. So far we have only uncovered a few of these, yet it seems strange that such a vast building would be used to house only a few small corridors and tombs. What is interesting is the lack of willingness from the current Egyptian Government to explore these areas.

6. Pyramids from Different Cultures Have Many in Common

Not only were the Pyramids in South America built in the same way and style as those in Egypt, but many utilized identical measurement systems, and they lay on important lines of latitude and longitude. Is it out of the realms of possibility that one particular culture wanted to spread their ideas far and wide?

7. Did the Ancient Pyramid Building Civilizations Interacted?

Now there are many theories regarding contact between the Old and New Worlds before the time of Christopher
Columbus. The similarities and cultural items and the composition of pyramids built by Ancient Egyptian and South American civilizations have been noted by archaeologists. Is it possible they somehow made contact?

8. Were the Pyramids influenced by Extraterrestrials?

Both the Mayan and Egyptian cultures record gods coming down from the sky to give them instructions to build the pyramids. But many cultures claim such meetings with deities and spirits. Perhaps we have to look at the sudden growth in development of pyramid building cultures. In both Bosnia and Xian in China, large pyramid structures have been discovered which were originally believed to be hills. We already know that the ancient Chinese were intellectually advanced at the time, and so were the Illyrian people of pre-historical Bosnia. The Egyptians, The Mayans, The Chinese…every civilization with a history of pyramid building has been more knowledgeable and innovative than their contemporaries. Is it always the case that the most intelligent people build these giant triangles just for recreational activities?
