Coin of the Day 9-8-18steemCreated with Sketch.

Yesterday we looked at a coin that I hadn't seen before, a 1943 Australian half penny. Today we're going to look at it's larger sibling, the Penny.

This one is a 1944 Penny and it's also made of bronze. It likewise has the iconic kangaroo on the reverse.

And it still has King George's face on the obverse. Am I the only one who thinks it would be more interesting if they updated the pictures more often... or featured other people?

According to Numista this coin was minted at the Perth Mint and could be worth around $1.00.

This was another of the coins I was gifted a little while ago and I'm glad to see multiple denominations from the same country. I like seeing the differences between the coins, yet the similarities. This coin was almost identical with the half penny, but sometimes they're different. It's fun for me to discover how they're different. Off to the vault with this one!

What did you think of this coin?

For you Australians, do you still have any of these? Are they in circulation at all?

They were going to put me on there but I wasn't available that day...

Dang it! I would have gotten bags and bags of those coins! That's too bad. At least you probably did something super important and meaningful that day, like watch Paul Blart: Mall Cop. :P

Bloody hell you're good. How funny is that Paul Blart though... :)

Whoops, I said Paul Blart: Mall Cop. I meant Paul Blart: Mall Cop 5 - Return of the Diaper Bandit. :D

Bwahaha...

Queen Elizabeth II has five different portraits on British coins. One every 13 years, on average. Do you think it is enough often or would you rather see Prince Charles' portrait?

I didn't realize that had changed it that much. It seemed like they had the current one, and the young one. I think more often than 13 years would be appropriate as she's on all the coins, not just one. If it were only one coin, then 13 years is probably fine. Just my opinion.

Do you think Charles is going to be King, or do you think they'll just skip him and go straight to William?

Is it really a new badge if it's just another of a badge that I already have? Yes, it's new, but it's of a variety that I already possess. I'll have to ponder that. Let me know what you think too.

ha! thank you sir Blondie for another interesting coin. I suppose it's a big hassle to change the images often? and too expensive?
I hope you have dustsweeper because I'm recharging sp.

Yeah, it's probably a hassle to decide on a new design, get it made, and then change over so that you're minting the right ones.

Yep, I got my dustsweeper recharged, so it's all good, man!

oh thank you sir, yay for dustsweeper!

Dustsweeper has been really helpful in getting those votes paid out. When I got low on SBD, I wasn't getting my votes, but now I'm recharged and getting voted again.

howdy sir Blondie! well sir...I think I read that they pretty much returen double the cost of your funding to them, is that your understanding or do you have any? lol. just teasing.

On two comments (or posts) per day, they give you an upvote that will make the payout large enough to get past the dust threshold. The vote is 2x what they charge, but the main value is in capturing the value that would otherwise be lost by the dust vote.

ok sir Blondie that makes sense and I'm glad you explained it because I forgot how it worked.

Happy to help out, man. If you have questions, just let me know. I may know, I may not. But we won't know until you ask. :D
