What's in the box? Day 9 Soldiers pay book.
I'm kind of emotional about this next piece. You see my grandpa would have carried this with him every day during the war. I miss him, and all of these items are bringing back alot of memories of him.
Alright, so here is his paybook. It was required to be with him at all times. I learned that his rank was Lance Corporal based on the L/cpl penciled in on the front and that he served with the 2nd Armoured Regiment(LSH).
I don't know what all of the particulars and credits mean but it's neat to see the values.
There are 4 of these books all stapled together, with the last entry in the old books stamped with "Balance Transfered to new Pay Book".
A nervous newlywed? He forgot that he was freshly married and stroked out his dad as next of kin and wrote in his new wife.
I wonder if he ever had the old rolled eyes from her over that!
Thanks for coming on this journey with me. I'm learning alot.

How fascinating to still have this piece of history to remember your grandfather by, it really must bring back emotional memories.
It is certainly a great way to learn more about what he was like, the change of next of Kin must have been a nervous slip, I bet it was kept very quiet though.
