Youve heard me! Yes, im about to criticize Steem Monsters! The most beloved Steem dapp is about to get it! 😂

Well... not really, though im not a fan of what im seeing. Ive voiced my opinion in the SM chat, tried to aggro @aggroed but he hit me with a lvl 3 ignore. His attack was super effective!

Bit of gamer talk. Normies wouldnt understand. 😂

So what im i on about?

Well as some of you may know the SM season ended yesterday and a lot of cards hit the market. In about 15 days the number of reward cards on the market is close to beating the number of the beta cards and the prices are plumeting.
Commons go for around 3 cents and the gold foils are dropping fast in price as well. I sold a gold foil summoner for 15$ 2 days ago. Now its going for around 12$.
The one goldfoil legendary there is went down at least 30% as well..

My point is that if this continues the reward card values will soon hit @byresteem memo spam levels. I know theyre free so it "doesnt matter" but the point is that this could affect playtime since doing the dailys wont be as attractive as it is now.

So my rekwanmendation (show me the moneeeey!) is to make a BTS asset SM ingame currency that can be used to purchase beta packs.
I know there has been talk about adding an ingame currency to SM but i think that allowing it to be traded on the open market like bitshares would be a good idea and a preferable option to keeping it contained ingame like hearthstone does it....

This way you could reward users with a fraction of pack value for daily completion instead of a whole pack and use the currency as a entry fee for tournaments. You can even leave the 0.01$ reward cards in as rewards, alongside the ingame currency.

After time just switch to SMTs when they launch.

If you do not do what i say, Steem monsters will fail! Devs are destroying the game! 😂

If you ever read a forum thread of any MMO youll get the joke. haha.

Ill see you around. Keep on Steem monstering!

I stopped playing probably a month or so ago and loaned my cards out. the resale of them is probably not worth the effort plus noone is going to buy leveled up cards probably unless I slash the price to near zero. Oh well. Just another day on steemit.

It depends what you have. Some beta cards are worth quite a bit.

I just started playing again and I think it's fine :P . Milkers need to be addressed. Reward set of cards being cheap right now I think is likely on purpose. You need them to take quickly to see how the meta adjusts. So I don't really see a problem with this approach. In the end I think people are too focused on the value of the cards on the market, but that's just my opinion. You never know if future releases make some of these cards even more valuable or not from synergies yet to be discovered.

The earning aspect is major aspect of it. Especially for those that dont have the money to buy cards for tournaments. If the free cards drop in value too much then those with lvl 1 carss i think will have a hard time building up their decks. Now, that could mean they will put in some money into steem but it might mean they wont. Its a balancing act which is why i think a move to ingame currency would be a good path to take. Allows everyone to slowly build up their decks.
Who knows what future holds but matt and aggroed seem to be very competent at what they do.

Agreed on that, it needs to be balanced well. But I think you could do that by keeping daily rewards as is and maybe giving a few boosters as season rewards. In game currency rewarding would be fine, though maybe that should be a one way trade (can buy/earn in game currency but cannot trade them out). Gives a lot of flexibility to control reward value.

I think the average pack value would determine the price of the ingame curency on the open market.

You still have to deal with people buying packs and card values regardless of them being able to trade the ingame currency openly.
With trading the ingame curency they can monetize their time spent ingame.
Nothing really changes imo.

The currency that would be used to buy packs, and cards sold afterwards will now go into the hands of those that want to buy the cards and keep them.
In the very least speculate with their price. And we know crypto is for a large part driven by speculation.

Rewards card value dropping should be expected. Stuff that is given out for free so abundantly won't hold short term value. The founders did say that there is a max supply of these cards but no number was decided on yet. So if all goes well the reward cards won today may be worth more months down the road.

This new system is way better then the last. It provides a way for those who just want to play the game to earn cards for free and the farming of these cards don't hurt the value of the games paid for cards / packs.

A cap is a good thing. Didnt see them announce it but giving them for free indefinetly is not something i think is good for the long run.
Exactly. This doesnt hurt the value of the bought packs, but can affect the daily playtime. Striking a balance is good thing.
