Steemmonsters Experiment: My Very First Tournament
Rarlier today, I joined my very first tournament. Quite exciting, I must admit...

The Tournament
This morning, I noticed @crystalhuman was hosting a 'no legendaries' Novice toutnament. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to join my very first tournament. After all, having no legendaries yet really limits your options.
So I decided to join, even if I did not understand a lot about the prize that would be awarded. Meanwhile, I know SMPT stands for Steemmonsters Poker Tokens, but that is about all I found out so far.
I didn't really care about the prizes, I just wanted to see how well I would be able to do.
After all, my deck is far from complete, and I was eager to test it in a tourney.
My Results
The first found I had to battle against someone who was completely unknown to me. Personally, I always find this more diffucult than battling someone you know.
After losing my first battle against @andruto, I thought it would be over in the first round already. But then a miracle happened, and I won the next two battles.
While waiting for the next round to start, I could see that my next opponent would be either my buddy @wonderwop or @mattclarke. I must admit I kept my fingers crossed that it would be @wonderwop, because @mattclarke is just... @mattclarke. :0)
Keeping those fingers crossed didn't help. I was matched against @mattclarke. Even though I knew I wouldn't stand a chance, I gave everything I had... and even managed to beat him once.
Future Plans
I will definitely join more tournaments in the future. They provide an excellent opportunity to gain experience. And because I'm still missing a lot of important cards, I can definitely use the training :0)
My daily update will have to wait until tomorrow. It's way past midnight, and I really need to get some sleep now. Just wanted to share this exciting news with you before I turned in.
See you soon!

It gets kinda frustrating to see mostly champion level players competing. I've seen them in tournaments with a top prize of 1 Steem. Congratulations on getting to the next round @itisjustme

I'm going to do a post on the topic today, if I f can find the time. I don't care if the big hitters join, I just get so pissed that people don't have any sense of respect for newcomers and keep using those legendary summoners in novice tourneys. It's like bringing a bazooka to a kindergarten where toddlers are playing 'war' with water guns. Yesterday, 1st place payed out 4 Steem, FFS! Oh boy, I am so pissed right now... Maybe I should calm down a little before I start writing, lol.
I already addressed this issue in a post I made on my main account, but people are just too selfish, greedy or stupid to get the point.
(by the way, I don't have such an issue with champion players joining novice - although I think they shouldn't. But I speak from experience that is is pretty darn hard to plat in novice or even bronze when you're used to playing level 6 or higher)
To my ears cooling down definitely sounds like a good strategy, just like with card transfers. ;-)
Isn't it more to the tournament organizer to dismiss legendaries? On the one hand I have seen such tournaments and on the other hand I like the idea to max out any given rules whatsoever. And if there is to many rules, they are there to break, right?
Does anyone know about an overview on tournament organizers and their series? Maybe it is a good time to initiate some own format for Novices (like me an my son LOL).
I'm sure there's a way to code battles in the opening rounds to be against opponents of like status, then there wouldn't be 10 Champions or Diamonds in the final two rounds. I don't want to exclude anybody from a tournament but if they can have a tournament with only gold cards or Alpha cards, why can't they have a tournament with players with a 3000 rep or less? Or vise versa?

Oh, BTW: It had been @wonderwop who defeated my easily the next round. He's mentioned in my blog post. You and @wonderwop know each other from other occasions? Hi there! A pleasure meeting both of you.
Nice to meet you too. @wonderwop has been one of my most loyal supporters from the moment I just started this experient :0)
Thanks for the resteem and he follow
My pleasure!
Gg mate. If its any consolation I didn't make it much further. Ninth overall. (which I think is my best performance in a tournament so far.)
No worries - I don't have a complete deck yet. that's what you get when trying to build an account without investing any other money than what you can earn from Steem.
I don't mind losing, but I have a BIG problem with people using the legendary summoners in novice tournaments. Except for posting and commenting on steem-bounty posts, there aren't too many ways to earn some Steem to spend on cards. Novice tournaments would be a great way to earn a little extra, but if people keep using those legendary summoners to beat the novices in tourneys where 1st prize pays out 4 Steem - I simply can't wrap my head around that.
Is it greed? Is it a complete lack of empathy with players that don't have hundreds of Dollars to spend on a game, or is it just plain stupidity. The point is, using those 5 mana summoners in a novice tournament is just plain wrong, imo. I know aggy wants to create a game for investors only, but people need to be able to try out the game and make sure they stand a chance in tourneys before they will start investing.
(sorry - didn't mean to bother you with all this, I'm just so darn angry about the lack of respect people are showing. Personally, I don't need the steem that can be won in novice tournaments, except for this account. I have my own high level decks, with the summoners. But I simply refuse to enter novice tourneys with the account that has them. Stupid, because I will never be able to win any, but it's all about making a point)
How did the fleshies go? All delegated? ;0)
Its great that the team have let tournament sponsors make that determination themselves.
I only have one fleshy delegated out currently; waiting for the peakmonsters team to get a marketplace up and running to automate it all. I'm certainly feeling bullish on SM, particularly when Aggroed can raise 100K in 26 hours :)
Cool @itisjustme 🤗 I should try to join any tourney too . To check how fun it will be, make a lil fuss with my level 2 decks 😂
In novice, every card is capped to level 1, so don't worry about having only a level 2 deck :0)
