Steem Monsters Fan Fiction: The Unexpected Victory of Ferexia Courtesy the ΛZMΛRÉ Dead

in #steemmonsters6 years ago (edited)

The following Steem Monsters battle sequence is a textual replay of a match I fought with @heyimsnuffles a few days ago. If you want to watch the battle, you can do so here.

The goal of this exercise is simply to try as best I can to describe how this battle might actually look if played as a tournament in an arena. Therefore, I put together a story depicting the battle as a fictional scene. I hope you like it.

The situation clearly favored the forces of ΛZMΛRÉ. The weather, the terrain, the stadium. It all told me that Ferexia had no chance to win. No chance at all.

Alric Stormbringer stepped into the summoner's box on the north side of the field. The noise of the crowd from the center ring to the furthest and highest point behind the aging summoner rose to a crescendo and maintained a steady pitch until the old wizard lifted his staff into the air. The crowd hushed. The ice crystal at the top of his staff glowed with blue as his other hand lit up with a blue flame. As the flame dissipated into thin air the crowd began to roar again.

On the other side of the arena, Malric Inferno appeared from behind a black curtain. His beat red efreet skin appeared dull against the backdrop of rain that showered upon his fiery head. His writst bracelets shot big bursts of fire toward the sky as his chin began to flame. The crowd behind him hissed then quieted quickly, eager to see the show.

The lineup of both teams rushed into the arena as their respective summoners issued the call. Before the intro music could even begin, Serpentine Soldier moved from the Monsters Gate below Inferno's feet and into the center of the arena. Naga Warrior rushed in from the other side. As the two met in the middle of the arena, Serpentine Soldier thrust his pike at the ΛZMΛRÉ warrrior, who raised her shield to parry the attack. The shield shattered beneath the force of the serpentine's thrust sending wooden splinters of shrapnel in all directions.

As Kobold Miner stepped up to the side of Serpentine Warrior and Sabre Shark beside Naga Warrior, each on the right side of their superior partners, Pirate Captain and Crustacean King assumed their posts in the range weapons pits on either side Stormbringer on the sandy floor of the arena. Goblin Shaman strolled into the arena beneath Inferno and took his post midway between the summoner and the melee warriors ahead. Cerberus rushed in from the rear, ran around Goblin Shaman and posted his three-headed body ready to fight in front of Sabre Shark. Before Cerberus could set in position, Pirate Captain pulled out a revolver and aimed it at Goblin Shaman, pulled the trigger, and felled the magic maker before he completed his first incantation.

Immediately, the forces of ΛZMΛRÉ grew stronger. All but Crustacean King could feel each move execute more quickly than before. The entire cast could feel their health improve the moment the shaman hit the sandy field.

No sooner had Goblin Shaman fallen over when Sabre Shark made his move. Thrusting his snout at Cerberus, taking the three-headed dog by surprise, he caught the dog in the chest before the beast could set right next to Serpentine Soldier. The dog snapped back. The near invisible shield that surrounded the shark disappeared leaving the shark without its first line of defense.

Angrily, Cerberus turned its attention to Naga Warrior, barking and biting until the teeth on one of its heads caught the warrior on her right leg. The bite sent the warrior into a rage. She turned away from the dog and moved in quickly on Serpentine Soldier, slashing her dagger across his scaly chest. As she did so she realized she had moved in too close and found herself caught in thorns. A screech of agony filled the arena as boos rose up from the crowd on Stormbringer's end and catcalls and hoots broke in from behind Inferno.

While all eyes fixated on the action taking place in the center of the arena, Kobold Miner managed to sneak around and pound a pick axe into one of the snappers of Crustacean King. Its shield cracked and fell to the ground.

Reflexively, the crustacean yelped in pain but managed to stretch its snapper far enough to reach Serpentine Soldier and slap it. As the serpent stumbled, a pistol whip from Pirate Captain knocked it to the ground. Sabre Shark snapped again at Cerberus, punching its nose into the dog's chest. As the dog fell, one of its heads reached up and its jaws clamped down on the shark's snout. Both fell to the ground and quit breathing.

Serpentine Soldier stood up, half dazed, and thrust once again at Naga Warrior. Able to make solid contact, the point of its pike hit the warrior between the breast dizzying her but not enough to kill. She pushed back, thrusting her dagger at the serpent's neck and roared as the point of the blade punched through the serpent's scales. She felt the serpent's body go limp. Glaring into its eyes as it writhed its way to the ground, she could see the life fly out of it, but she couldn't step out of the way before the serpent twisted its way on top of her. Again, thorns wrapped themselves around her and she could feel feel them squeeze the breath of her as everything around her went dark.

Pirate Captain found himself nose to nose with Kobold Miner. The miner dropped its pick axe onto the pirate's foot, shattering his shield. Paralyzed, the pirate contemplated his next move. Before he could decide on an action, Crustacean King slapped the miner with a claw. The miner twitched and swung his pick axe, bringing it around with enough force and speed to catch the pirate in the midsection driving him to the arena floor retching and howling to the end.

Kobold Miner stepped over the lifeless body of the pirate and faced off with Crustacean King. The king of crabs felt a sudden cold of blackness come upon him. What should I do now? he thought. I can't run. And shouldn't, a voice inside his head returned. A grin crossed the horrid face of Kobold Miner as he lifted his axe into the air. The grin turned to laughter. A baritone cackle filled the arena and the miner grunted. The grunt sounded more like a howl. From the belly it rose, like a single note of exuberance, into the throat and escaped into the arena like a bass drum, sounding its boom with an echo that resembled a thunderous afternoon. Rain beat his face and he cursed the gods of ΛZMΛRÉ as he dropped the axe over the protective shell of Crustacean King's head. He could hear it crack. Crustacean King stood still, like a monument to itself, for a long five seconds before crashing to the ground at Kobold Miner's feet.

Moments of silence followed Ferexia's victory before the crowd behind Inferno roared its approval. Behind Stormbringer, silence. What appeared as a sure win for ΛZMΛRÉ ended in a shameful defeat that will go down as a high watermark in Ferexia history.

Hah man, there's no end for the fantasy :D One thing in ur story totally shocked me - the crowd. I always thought that fights take in some abandoned arena without spectators..This gave it whole new looks in my head haha :D

Btw you could have taken some printscreens of the fight next time or? :D Like a round by round. Could go nice along the text.

Good idea. I may try that.

Real clever. I could be wrong, but you must the the first to fictionalise a Steem Monsters battle. Good call - it's a great read.

Thanks. I believe I am the first, but I'm hoping others will pick up on it.

I love the idea of playing a game and then writing it out in fiction!! This was great -- I want to start playing SteemMonsters one day, just working on getting the money to do so.

It really only took five dollars to buy a starter pack. Most of the rest of the cards I won in contests, except for the ones I bought through the Kickstarter campaign. I never would have bought those, however, if I hadn't been vested completely through the freebies I received winning contests.

I hope you start playing soon.
