Happy 3-days-after-Christmas๐ŸŽ„ AND 4-days-before-the-New-Year!๐ŸŒŸ

Are you on holiday?

Did ya have to go back to work already?

Any super exciting plans for when the ball drops?

In case you were wondering...

  • I'm not really on holiday.
  • I generally do what I want, within the time constraints of deadlines. Though I DO have a deadline by end of the year, so will probably go to the office sometime today. ๐Ÿ˜€
  • No big party plans. The last few years I've preferred the safety and comfort of my home on the most notorious night of debauchery.๐Ÿ˜Ž Plus, the hubs @chrisroberts, works both the 31st and the 1st.

You may ask yourself, "Why is she going on about the New Year? This is supposed to be a magnificent sandwich post."๐Ÿค”

And it is.

I was just feeling a little chatty. ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Before I jump in with the ingredients, I would like to take a moment to say, "Thank you", to @chrisroberts' parents, who sent us home with ALL the Prime Rib leftovers. All of them. O...M...G... ๐Ÿ˜To be fair, some crazy shit went down that ... allowed us to be the sole breadwinners of the leftovers... but I digress.๐Ÿ˜

We had Prime Rib for Christmas Eve dinner (at the parents), Christmas dinner (at our house with a guest), last night (sandwich art coming soon), and STILL have some left for tonight! It's a Christmas miracle! ๐ŸŒŸ For realz, though. It's like the gift that keeps on giving.

OKAY! Okay. Let's do this.

To begin... to toboggan, first buy a toboggan,
But don't buy too big a toboggan.
(A too big a toboggan is not a toboggan
To buy to begin to toboggan.)

Sorry about that... I always think of that tongue twister when starting sentences with, "To begin...". ๐Ÿ˜

We are REALLY starting now. Really. No joke.

This is for @jaybird's Steemit Sandwich Contest Week 21. He posted a mere 2 days ago, giving you FIVE more to create something amazing and enter. Well, get to it!

๐Ÿž The Ingredients.๐Ÿ–

The Prime Rib.

Disclaimer: I forgot to use the flash on the first pic. Forgive me.๐Ÿ˜Œ

Those beautiful hunks of meat were carefully sliced into thin pieces forming this absolutely magnificent tower of deliciousness.

Because Prime Rib is meant to be consumed quite rare, when using leftovers, you must be VERY careful not to cook the meat when warming it. Not having much (okay, no) experience with Prime Rib, I did a little research before starting. I decided that slicing while cold would be easiest for me and I was much too worried to attempt to put the chunks back in the oven, even for a short time.

I had a couple of options to heat the meat and decided to make a VERY shallow bath of au jus to lay the strips in for about 30 seconds (15 seconds or so a side, maybe less...). After a quick bath I placed them into a ceramic dish on top the stove to keep them warm, without cooking them.
Here they are bathing a little:

The Onions.

After this task was complete and set aside I started the onions. Yes... I forgot to start them earlier...๐Ÿ˜ But I wasn't going to have the sandwich without them!
With a little bacon grease and a touch of butter, these sweet onions were sizzling to perfection!

The Bread.

I used a regular loaf of French Bread and cut a couple of hunks from it. I then hollowed out the inside just a bit, to make room for more filling. ๐Ÿ˜‹

Finally, it was time to assemble!

I first toasted the bread in our NuWave (essentially a forced heat oven, excellent for toasting) and spread just a tiny amount of mayonnaise on each piece. I piled on the Prime Rib and grilled onions and topped mine with a piece of Provolone Cheese.
I put it back in the NuWave long enough to melt the cheese and then finished with placing the bread on top.

They were served with some light pasta salad and warm au jus for the dipping. Here's a little collage, followed by the suggested money shot. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I hope all of you enjoyed reading about this as much as we enjoyed eating it!

Shudang!

That's quite the entry.. sandwich, storyline, tongue twister and all lol

Leftovers are the source of many a good sandwiches. My null entry for week 21 is also proof of that.

"...when using leftovers, you must be VERY careful not to cook the meat when warming it."

Bingo ;) had to do the same thing with my left over steak.

I love how you hollowed out some of the bread.. It makes a big difference and also helps to contain the sandwich insides a bit more!

Welcome to SSC, already setting the bar high early on !

Lol!
After reading through it before posting, I thought, "Dang. I'm all over the place! Focus, Carrie. Focus." But really, I think I'm more fun that way! ๐Ÿ˜†

And yes, using leftovers correctly is an art. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Thanks for the warm welcome!

some pictures look inviting while some are......

Yeah. That first one is rough. No flash made it look weird. (Thus, the disclaimer. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) And the bubbles from the au jus bath made it look sparkly. Still delicious. ๐Ÿ˜˜

Your posts are always so much fun. What kind of work do you do? Missing to see your face every day in the selfie challenge :)

I think living in my head is generally pretty fun! ๐Ÿ˜†

As usual, I'm working for a non-profit. It's my way. ๐Ÿ˜

I've been with Crestone Performances Inc for a couple of years. I was brought in to help fix things, specifically the Music Festival that it had been running for the last 18 years. And I did a little, but honestly, it was going down 5 years before me. We decided (the board) that this year we need to take a break from the HUGE event and get out of the hole (they'd been falling into for years).

We are now focusing on our kid program YEP (Youth Enrichment Program), which both myself and the Executive Director (who I primarily work with) are most excited about. That program has been successfully run for the last 12 years, separate from the music festival.

Now, I basically take care of bookkeeping (all them past bills), admin stuff, grant writing, event planning, fundraising and my carnival! That's a new project we got funding for this year.

I created and built from scratch a traveling school carnival that schools can use as a fundraiser. We secured the funds to purchase the prizes and tickets and such (already built the carnival with a grant from last year) and then bring everything to the school. They keep the proceeds and pay nothing. It's pretty sweet.

Because we had to cut a HUGE part of the budget for the upcoming year, our office is temporarily in the Executive Director's house (just up the street from me).

I totally still need to update some grant stuff that is due end of the year.

Nuttin' like last minute deadlines! ๐Ÿ˜‚

So... I have a LOT of time for Steemit now. With no festival to plan I have only a handful of hours every month (unless we have an event). I was working full time all year to plan the festival, but am pretty happy that everything happened at just the right times.... As usual. ๐Ÿ˜‰

So.... I bet THAT was more of an explanation than you were expecting. ๐Ÿ˜

Oh, I so love your explanation!!! And I now know whose mind to pick!! Or maybe we can colaborate on a project. We are starting a Center for Sustainability and need to get into looking for grants - do you see where this is going? And I like the carnival idea for a fundraiser.
I just interviewed a guy on my podcast who does a lot of project out of recycled materials - like making toys from cardboard and has used those as a fundraiser as well - build arcade games from cardboard.
Anyways - if you are interested to have a conversation about grant writing and such - let me know. We can DM in discord :)

For sure!
I'm LITERALLY the best at making something out of nuttin. ๐Ÿ˜

We even have (the World's first) FreeBox here, where we are able to manifest items we need.

Grant Writing isn't the hard part... the hard part is SEARCHING for the right grants to apply for so you waste as little time as possible.

Generally, though, I'm pretty good at words when I need to be. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Well, maybe you can share some tricks on the searching process... We have been working basically for free and that is not sustainable at all :(

Indeed. That's really 90% of nonprofits... working for free.๐Ÿ˜

The magic is when you find a supporting board with all the right ingredients. If you are working with a skeleton crew, then sadly, ALL responsibilities end up falling on the same people.

Perhaps we get together in Discord...

I'd need to know a bit more about your idea and where you stand now.

Do you already have a nonprofit? If not, it could be nearly impossible (or just take FOREVER) to acquire one. However, it's very possible you can umbrella off of someone else for a small fee.

There are other options, of course. And it's not always required to be a nonprofit to recieve grant monies.

Where there's a will, there's a way. ๐Ÿ˜

We are not a nonprofit, but are basically in association with a huge one here in San Diego. And I know about another one we can umbrella under for a fee.

I am meeting with my co-horts on Wednesday and we are making plans.
I'll message you after and we maybe can figure out if we can collaborate on something in the future.
Thank you so much!!

That post just made me hungry...
I actually do a 5 STEEM giveaway myself, you should check it out.

Thanks! It made ME hungry whilst trying to take pictures of it! LOL! ๐Ÿ˜‚

I'll go check ya out. Thanks for stopping by!

could go for that right now! haha looks good๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Girl - great sandwich, description of sandwich, and photos of said sandwich! Best of luck in the contest!!

Hey! Thanks so much!

It's my first attempt. It's harder than you would think. Taking pictures of food instead of eating it. LOL! ๐Ÿ˜†

CAN I JUST EAT ALL YOUR SANDWICHES please

Yes, you totally can. Come on over! ๐Ÿ˜

Very nicely done @carrieallen, good luck :)
Looks yummy!

Thanks so much!

Yours is pretty amazing too!

Really good entry good photos and I like the final result.
