SteemitPhotoChallenge 17 Entry 2 - An Ephemeral Country Creek, Van Buren County, ArkansassteemCreated with Sketch.

This little creek doesn't always have running water. But after a few days of winter rain, it flows strong and clear over slabs of sandstone bedrock, into Greer's Ferry Reservoir. You can see, from the clearness of the water, how effective the forest is at preventing erosion and keeping sediment from getting into the lake. The countryside is covered with Shortleaf Pine, Dogwoods, Sweetgum, and other hardwoods. In the forest, there are mushrooms after every good rain and little orchids in the summer.

Beautiful view of a hardwood forest. You captured the water in motion so well.

Thanks! There was a lot of rain to make the creek run at this level.

great photo.....beautiful in fact, I can just about smell the forest

It is a very pleasant forest. I'll be posting some photos of mushrooms that were in that forest. : )

Looks beautiful. The type of place to rest and read a book.

Thanks, @countryinspired. The land is owned by a non-profit nature center, so there are some benches in the woods. Right along the creek, though, everyone has to sit on a fallen tree or two. It's much more natural that way. Very pleasant, indeed.

the water flowing over the rock (I think it is slate) is beautiful! Good luck in the competition - STEEM ON!

Thanks. My parents live in the area and I have moved a lot of rock! It really is sandstone -- and that's what makes the little orchids there so unique. When the soil gets shallow so that trees can't grow there, it creates meadow-like openings called fens. And they have some unique vegetation. I loved how the water flowed over the rock, too, and was glad this image turned out so well. We are all winners in the photochallenge, with some nice images from all over, like yours! : )

kind words. Thank you for the compliment.

You're welcome. I'm not always in a place where I can comment on everyone's posts, but I especially enjoyed your brother at the lake.

That's awesome, I am really glad you enjoyed that pic. It's one of the special pics in our family, the right place at the right time kind of deal.
