Another idea for #spreadthepower, #minnowsunite, #payitforward & others — be proactive! Link to others!
So. I was thinking a lot lately. And I came up with a really obvious idea. When you write a post add a couple of links to something that you liked, but is undervalued at the moment of your post. Upvotes & comments are cool, but if you add a couple of links, perhaps to stuff that is of the same theme as your post, perhaps not, or mix and match... Perhaps a couple of words why you are including a link too, makes people feel that their work is appreciated, even if the visibility thing doesn't work for them this one time.
You effectively share your reputation, your followers with other people. Cool & simple, is it not? And only takes an extra minute or two! Best of all it doesn't involve the currency system in any way, and builds up the community & is also a form of curation! You #spreadthepower, the most important power, your social weight, which is entirely subjective and inquantifiable.
And since I don't think in the categories like this a comment from @zaebars is that it is also decentralized! The featured posts & gem picks are really cool but also a form of centralization, yes?
The idea was partially inspired by the popularity of curation of lost content, as well as some people who promote their own work by linking to their previous posts. Thanks guys & gals! As usual the shout outs go to @on0tole & @williambanks, who started me on this train of thought some time ago.
The picture of this lone tree from my India trip is unrelated. But you don't want to be alone in a scorched steppe like it is, right? Hmm, or is it savannah?
Here is the snapshot of what I was thinking about for the most of the day:
Userbase cohesion. Signal to noise ratio. Visibility. Minnow satisfaction. Site engagement. Other cool buzzwords!
And just to demonstrate, as well as make it a habbit here are the links!
get out there and post!
Nice gif! :-D
Great idea, and thanks for the mention. I must have missed this a couple days ago when it first came out
Yeah, this idea is to lower the chances of people missing cool stuff. When I do a big post, I take some time to add those links. :-)
Good work and way to keep building up the community.
