Voluntary Tribalism - The Decentralised Future

This is a great concept - Voluntary Tribalism. In the middle ages in Iceland, for 300 years they prospered and had what really should be considered a golden age. The key mechanism that kept the peace and promoted progress was something that some have called Polycentric Law, but I think this term 'Voluntary Tribalism' is more appropriate.

The Icelanders had a system where who you paid your social insurance dues was a choice. You had to pay someone, but you didn't have to pay the guy who managed the collective business of your village, town or city. This mechanism permitted conflicts to be resolved by allocating resources to the most faithful and effective Chieftain, who could be on the other side of the country, indeed in a global version of this, it could be on the other side of the world.

Because we now can communicate globally no less easily than locally, this can happen now. Unlike in those times, where communication was limited by how fast horse-riding messengers could move letters around, it happens in seconds from almost anywhere to almost anywhere else.

With blockchain technology, and a system of membership management, something along the lines of my SteemHordes concept, except with a mechanism for this membership to go two ways, you can assign your designated social insurance provider, and pay the fees that they demand for membership, of course, depending on whether they consider you to be a risk to them or not. When your subscription is valid (it is like an insurance policy), the leader you designate, and their delegated management, are then obliged by contract to intervene when there is an issue of conflict between you and another party. If you are a troublesome person, you will have problems finding a quality Tribe to join, and this will act as a behaviour moderator that has an effect of enabling the discovery of solutions to resolve it. Nobody has to be abandoned, but if you are a problem, your conditions of service are more difficult, your subscription is more expensive, basically because you invoke the necessity for conflict resolution more often.

These social insurance providers, we could call them Tribes. Which tribe you pay, is the one who is your advocate and protector. They delegate the actual functions out to their own selected providers, and who they are, is part of the reason why you choose them. This includes legal representation, domestic security, and some kind of safety net, a support network where others can see people who are having a serious problem, and take steps to help resolve the situation. This aspect of it is something along the lines of a welfare system but exactly how it is implemented will depend on the people who run it.

Ideally over time this would result in the situation where you subscribe to a local provider, but whenever there is problems with this group, they would be pressured both financially and through stern discussions, and maybe serious sanctions, to stop misbehaving.
