Why I'm sticking with Steem even if the price goes down to $.25: I'm not a quitter. Never have been & I'm not starting now.

in #steemit8 years ago

Since everyone has been freaking out lately and there seems to be little upside in the coming weeks in terms of price & marketcap; I thought I'd share my opinion on why none of that really matters...

Ever since I found this project, I saw the value in it. Not because of the money I could make personally, because lets face it, I'm no writer. But at the same time, I can see the immense value created right off the bat within Steem, not for me, but for everyone else. For as long as we can remember knowledge has been stuck behind library walls, inside government buildings and so on. Most of which require some sort of method of obtaining this knowledge, sometimes they charge you a rental fee of some sort or perhaps they just make the information so hard to get to, that the amount of effort required makes getting the information seem pointless.

Extrapolate this into the legal system and things get hairy quickly... I think Steemit can solve many of these issues by incentivizing people to build an open-source library of content & knowledge. From this system we can create who new search engines, content discovery sites & beyond... all of which will be pioneered by users like us. And while its nice we can make some money doing this, more importantly I think is the idea that we can build a product better than a library, we can build an open source knowledge platform for everyone to use and learn from.

No longer do we have to ask permission to rent a book, get past a paywall, dig through shelves upon shelves of stuff for exactly what we need; we can just organize the internet around the concept that Steemit pays you to create, give it 5 years and I vet we have the largest content library around..

So back to why I don't care about the current or future price of Steemit...

Money might run the world, but knowledge keeps us moving forward and becoming better human beings. I see Steemit as a way to revolutionize that concept and speed everything up in terms of knowledge creation & sharing. Social media aspects aside, Steem has the potential to displace the entire school & library systems of the world, for the better. And thats one ride I want to be a part of. Whether the Steem token is worth $0.25 or $25000 doesn't matter to me. I'm here for the concept of freedom, the purpose of knowledge and the fight for decentralization. You should be too.

Ps: it's still beta folks, don't forget that very key part. You are worrying about the price of something thats not even been "fully released" yet... chill.

Sort:

You have a point - there's definitely room for growth - steemit only has about 50000 accounts - no where close to Facebook colossal stature - still in the innovator to bordering early adopter stage @thedashguy

Exactly. The price rise will be epic, but beyond that is the platform itself, changing the world!

And the platform is changing and upgrading every day. ;)

I agree, steemians will move up the learning curve and improve as time goes by - the cocept is phenomenal - only thing is the gaming of the system - humans vs bots apocalypse that is a key issue , and the 4 posts rule @thedashguy thanks for the brief chat

Thank you for this post and comment @thedashguy! It's inspiring.

So where are we now in this chart? The early adopters?

No, the innovators, the 2.5%.

Steemit is still in BETA, which means it is still testing. We just had an gui (graphical user interface) overhaul a week ago. Reputations changed to a double digit number.. all of this in a couple of weeks.

We're still very much at the 2.5% innovator stage still.

It all depends on how many users end up using the steem blockchain within the next 5 years. If its 1 billion, you are easily going to be the first 1% of users.

And of that 50k there is a very small % that is active. I think many open an account thinking they will strike gold, and after 2-3 failed attempts that go back to wherever it is they came from. If you have faith in something you have to take the long road.

For as long as we can remember knowledge has been stuck behind library walls, inside government buildings and so on.

Let's not forget the most voluminous library of all under the Vatican and their 'Secret' Archives adjacent to it. You must provide documentation of your qualifications and research needs just to view a book -- quite the barrier of entry.

While you may not consider yourself a "great" writer, you write with heart and explain your beliefs more than clear enough to get your point across.

Not all people can craft a fictional story or use the English language in a way that will shock and awe scholars.

That being said, your ideas are very valuable and I like you agree that even if the price plummeted I would still be here. (If that happens and I leave, call me out and destroy my reputation, because word is bond and at that point my word will mean nothing).

I hadn't thought of steemit as a library of knowledge in the way you described. That's a new concept to me that I will have to ponder, but I definitely like the idea.

Thanks for sharing the ideas you have along with your passion for steemit. And with all things, we get better with practice. If we aren't learning and evolving as we continue our quests on steemit, we will have missed out on an incredibly powerful part of the system.

if it goes that low.... i will be buying all the way down. :)

I'm waiting for a bottom, but yea, right there with ya! The cheaper the better lol!

Price doesn't matter. What matters is: number of coins X price

If you have, say, +90% coins and -50% price, you are gaining.

You are a better writer than you let on.

Haha thank you :p I am trying these days, but I did fail english class quite a few times in the past, mostly for not showing up... maybe there was something to the whole "just go to class" thing. LOL

Well said! I have found that if you don't concentrate on the monetary aspect, you can have a lot of fun! It's also a great medium to educate people about digital currencies, which is my passion. Thanks for posting, @thedashguy!

Thanks for following Tao ;] Glad you see the same value here as I do. Wish I could say the same for some of our colleagues lol. Price means nothing when the concept is solid.

Agreed. I love the concept, but it will have competition from other, maybe more advanced projects. Anyone thinking of investing should proceed with caution.

Not that long ago Steem was worth around $0.20. We experienced a big pump and the price is correcting. Consider that coin supply has expanded rapidly by 12% and daily trading volume is unusually low.

Another great point, this price correction was bound to happen...

Same here! I truly believe in the steemit platform. I even bought in back when it was at $3.50 and not mad about it since it came down but going to buy even more steem if it does happen to go under $1. I bet within the next 2-3 months once 1 or 2 big time celebrities find out about it and they start posting on here. That's when steem will start to get its increase in price and go mainstream a lot faster! Not that many steemers are seeing the potential here! Those that got in early should take advantage of this amazing opportunity!

Dang bro $2500/ SP would be crazy!
