What Witnesses Should I Vote For?

Been thinking about the fact that there are some glaring issues with Steemit and that currently I'm not voting for the people that could help usher in change.

For those that don't fully understand the purpose of the Witnesses on the Steem Blockchain and why this even matters I'll give a little background.

A Witness needs to host a server (witness node) to verify blocks before they are written to the blockchain. This process on the Steem Blockchain happens amazingly fast at around 3 seconds. Thank you to all the Witnesses for keeping up their servers and making this possible!

But I want more then just someone that can run a witness node. While it's critical to the speed of the blockchain a witness has the position to help the growth of Steemit by pushing for changes in upcoming hard forks. Changes needed for the long term viability of the Steemit platform.

What I am looking for are Witnesses that stands against plagiarizers, scammers, and reward pool abuse. I know there isn't a simple answer to these problems, but I'm looking for witnesses that are willing to address the issues at hand and make an honest effort to find solutions.

I'm guessing that there are a whole lot of other steemit members that are in the same position as myself sitting at their computers asking "What Witnesses Should I Vote For?"

So I'm asking for Witness suggestions and why you voted for them.

Here is the current list of current witnesses. On that list you can see witnesses that are no longer active so double check any votes you currently have. You might be wasting a vote.

Support my owner. Please vote @Yehey as Witness - simply click and vote.

@thedarkhorse - Good to know you are checking who to vote instead of voting based on recommendation. I do my own research and I voted my witness because I like what they do helping the community, of course my choices probably not align to others that's ok because each of steem user have 30 votes to spare, so choose wisely.

FYI @broadcast is a steem faucet created by @yehey a witness, to help the minnow to receive extra boost
And @yehey up vote witness supporters and mod at https://SteemChat.com discord server.

My 2 cent.

The witness you vote for and why are personal choices you must make!

Here is who I voted for and why:

I voted for @isnochys because he does witness staking and provides payouts to everyone that votes for him, runs 3 newbie bots for people with less than 500 SP, is responsive when I have communicated via his blogs, has a sense of humor, and isn't on the top 50.

I voted for @steemchiller because I utilize his steemworld.org everyday. not witness yet.

I voted for @dragosroua because I utilize his steem.supply for author payouts and also the steem to SBD comparisons. Daily

These 2 witnesses I voted for based off of my vote buying interactions with them.

I voted for @therealwolf because he runs smartsteem and he was very responsive on his discord channel when I had a problem.

I voted for @samrg472 because I utilize his bot @steemdunk

I have only just recently thought about voting for witnesses.
I prefer to vote for the ones that are providing benefits to my steem experience.

@isnochys has blogged about the idea of a witness down-vote which I would be in favor of utilizing as well.

Thanks for the response. Great logic behind each vote and like the way you are picking your witnesses.

I'm guessing that there are a whole lot of other steemit members that are in the same position as myself sitting at their computers asking "What Witnesses Should I Vote For?"

That's me! And I've tabled it because I really had no idea who else to vote for...and, to be perfectly honest, forgot about it until now! I have @aggroed, @curie, @pharesim, @steemgigs, @yabapmatt, but I did that so long ago, I don't remember my reasoning anymore. I might scratch all of it and start over now that I know what to look for when choosing.

I will be so curious to hear what people have to say here @thedarkhorse! And thanks to ginabot for notifying me of my instant vote for you, I came right over to comment! Did you get my message about her and "notifications" on another post by the way?

Thank you for bringing up a very important topic today ;)

I was really hoping that there would be more people saying who they voted for and why. Starting to feel like most people don't vote, or don't know why they voted for their witnesses. Not a good situation IMO.

Looking at how many inactive Witnesses there are I know people aren't taking the time to look at their list of witnesses often enough.

Hey there @thedarkhorse. @lynncoyle1 asked me to stop by, so here I am. :)

Out of all the witnesses that stand out for me, @timcliff was the first to make an impression.

I took some time and cast some votes for witnesses I approved of. Some examples are @aggroed, @utopian.io (open source community based witness), @dragosroua, and @markythemark.

I ended up setting @timcliff as my proxy. IMHO he has the most level head of the bunch with a huge passion for Steemit (and works his butt off). I decided to trust his judgement instead of personally trying to vote for 30 different witnesses.

Hope that helps and at least offers some direction. :)

Thanks for stopping by and offering your suggestions. Just added @timcliff, was suggested a couple times and looked at his posts and comments and like what he is doing.

Kind of hoping to avoid using a proxy, but you gave a few other options I will take a look at. But honestly 30 is a lot to research and then keep up with.

Hi @inalittlewhile! Thank you so much for doing this; I like your choices and never thought of a proxy, but that's something new for me to muse over now!

Oh yea @lynncoyle1. No problem at all. :)

I posed the question re: witnesses and dropped your link in a couple of discord channels I belong to. Just have to wait and see now...

Yep I'm agreeing with you there! I'm going to ask a few people I know to come over here and let us know...

A very helpful post @thedarkhorse Will resteem in the hope that others will benefit form reading this info too. Have a great day!

Thank you! Really would like to get this some exposure as the topic matters to me. There are some glaring issues that need to be fixed for long term success of steemit and really want to know what witnesses are here to help vs just collect a paycheck for hosting a server.

I agree @thedarkhorse I haven't really seen a lot of discussion about these issues so hopefully this post will stimulate some very helpful facts and opinions.

It will always depend, but i think it's obvious to vote for the people that are trying to make steemit a better place for you. Looks like many of us have our own choices according to their impact on us. Anyone who has been here can easily pick more than 15 witnesses that he has observed care about this platform
Nice regards man.

I have been thinking exactly the same. When I landed he a couple of months ago, every man and his dog was asking for witness votes, and I willingly obliged with most, then I thought about this issue above last week and removed all votes. I went in search of those that seem to engage on HERE not on pal/discord obscure radio shows. I found sircork actively involved on a few of the conversations on here, regarding reward pool abuse and Haejin so voted for him. Pharesim seemed a fair person from day so the vote there stood. Markymark also was engaged in the conversations, so I will be giving him a vote. And for the moment that is me done with it, they only get a vote if I see them actively involved and engaging, even with us peasants. Just my two pence worth.

One that I voted for you might consider is blockbrothers, one of them is @exyle and he is very active here.

Will look into the others you mentioned. Thank you for posting them!

Good to know @deliberator...I too have @pharesim on my very short list! But I just said to @thedarkhorse the same; I might scrap the 5 or so I have chosen and start over with a fresh eye.

I decided a short time ago to start using a proxy. It is hard to know which people to pick. I find that it is much easier to find a proxy that I know has the same beliefs and ideals as me and then allow them to vote for witnesses on my behalf. I know it isn't fool proof, but it makes me feel better about what I am doing on the platform.

This is something I've considered. Kind of like to control things like this as it's kind of like voting straight party line in an election. Many people would be find with that, but to me there are always some exceptions that aren't worthy of my vote. Not against this idea, just not there yet.

I have 15 so far that I have voted for, @timcliff was the first witness I voted for. Why, because I had a problem and he helped I have had a couple of other problems, suggestions and Ideas, and he has almost always responded, so I will have him as a witness always.

There are a couple I am considering removing, due to condescending attitudes to questions I asked or comments that I have made or suggestions that I have offered. I do not mind people disagreeing with me on a comment, I do have a problem when their disagreement is condescending or they act as if their shit don't stink and you are incapable of understanding the complexities of the situation.

@timcliff has now been recommended a couple times in this thread. Did a little digging and like what he is doing. Added. Thanks for that suggestion!

I would imagine that it's hard sometimes to answer the same question 350 times...kind of like having a toddler. But you people need to be careful not to be, or come off as, condescending.

Hi @bashadow, I've felt the same condescension from one in particular (and I won't name names), but I hear you! Just because my little number after my name here is smaller than yours, does not give you the right to treat me poorly. Thanks for the tip on @timcliff; like @thedarkhorse said, he's mentioned a few times here...and I trust your judgement!

@ausbitbank is worth considering. He isn’t active publically, but supports a lot of projects that help newer members get started.

Helping new members get started is very important too. Without helping new members learn to be proper members here they turn into spammers.

For me, voting the "right" witness is very important for the future of our platform. Right now, I think it's best to vote those who can develop further the steem blockchain. Later will be the advertising "gurus" who's always hungry for money.
