Steemtopia Contest - 12.5 SD in Prizes up for Grabs

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

In the last week an unexpected couple of donations were given to me by very kind Steemit members to help make my/our Utopian dreams come true.

I couldn't just pocket this money or even put it into Steem Power as this just didn't seem like furthering the 'everybody wins' scenario I look for. So I decided to start the first Steemtopia Contest, offering a SD + %payout prize for each of two categories:

Category 1. I want to hear what are your visions and goals of an utopia? This is a rather broad question, so feel free to interpret this as you wish. I'm looking for the most thought out and unique answers as criteria to pick the winner.
[Winner gets 5 SD + 25% of payout]

Category 2. Find me a good cause on Steemit in which 5 SD would have the most beneficial impact. Please try to make sure they are real. The criteria for winning is on using this small amount of money to have the largest impact.
[Winning cause gets 5 SD +25% of payout and the person who submitted it gets 2.5 SD +25% payout]

To submit just post a reply with your entries for either category. Make sure to include the link to the Steemit post if submitting for a cause. You can make a submission into both categories.

The contest will end this Saturday August 13 and I'll announce the winners on Sunday.

This is my chance to give a little something back to the community and those in need. If you enjoy these types of thoughts or discussions please follow me and join in.

@sykochica The only place where you and I really differ.
I believe that both Utopia and Dystopia are fallacies.
But you see, now I have to toss out my blog post tonight or at least wait awhile, because it was actually entitled "The Utopian Fallacy"
Guess I'll hold that one back and try a different one this evening.
BTW for some reason it said I wasn't following you. I remember specifically clicking follow on you before. But I guess it didn't hold.
Anyways, you're showing up in my feed now. So check folks you're following too and spread the word!

p.s. Upvoted, just because I think it's a fallacy doesn't mean it's not a good idea. ;)

p.p.s. Glad to see you're playing #payitforward That's what brought me here. I have nothing to share, but I'm actively looking for other people who play it and making sure they're in my feed. That's what brought it to my attention.

For this I'm looking more for the ideals that such a community would be based off of at the beginning. I can accept that nothing will be perfect and that some form of updating or adaption will be required along the way. Especially with the knowledge of what makes us happy today may not work for us in the future. To me this is based around an individual being able to have an idea of who they are, what they want and to grow.

While what is a utopian setup for one person, could be quite hellish for another. This can lead to the discussions of perhaps a semi centralized setup where there are pockets that cater to certain types of people and needs, letting others focus on different ones, all the while letting those that don't wish to necessary relocate still take place. Having Steemit as not only a social, but an economic base work from opens up so many possibilities.

I'll have to get into a deeper talk with you after the contest is over. Trying to keep this a level playing field for entries. :)

As always, I love the discussion!

@sykochica Ok fair enough. I'll hold off on my Utopia related posts until this has run it's course. Like I said just because I disagree with feasibility doesn't mean I don't think it's a great idea. I would have argued with Kennedy about trying to put men on the moon too.

Oh BTW, I thought you might like to know, your steemtopia posting did inspire me towards this...

Hope you enjoy it! #payitforward

Oh feel free to post (just not here unless your entering, for fairness. ) I look forward to the debates though, we both want something beneficial. :)

I actually just saw that post and replied :)

Hi, I think utopia would be a place where there would be very little people and every person would have a big place to live where he would be able to do whatever he wants without the intervention of others.

Got a link for you too: - It's a bit old, but it looks really good.

Thank you for your entry!
And no worries if it's a older cause post, a good cause is a good cause.

I think a Utopia, is a place where everyone lives together as one, there is no difference in Race, religion or beliefs. No children go hungry and everyone has a roof over their heads. A place where you are you not labeled and everyone lives as one.

My cause would be this one:
The Steemit Run. I am trying to find it, but it doesn't seem like there are very many Charity/donations

Thank you! (I'm trying not to give feedback on entries right now, as to not skew anything.)

Is this the Steemit Run?

"In the next few years the struggle will not be between utopia and reality, but between different utopias, each trying to impose itself on reality ... we can no longer hope to save everything, but ... we can at least try to save lives, so that some kind of future, if perhaps not the ideal one, will remain possible." ALBERT CAMUS, Between Hell and Reason

Utopia for me, is a cultural space not a physical place. It embodies a radical shift in our guiding paradigms. Everyone already knows about these paradigms, they are the deepest held beliefs about how the world works. They are so obvious, why even mention them? The current belief as to how the world works assumes the following to be true: Nature is a warehouse of resources for human purposes. Those who have less money are worth less because money has real meaning. If you want more money, you merely have to work harder. Of course a person can "own" land. Nothing is greater than an individual's freedoms. Freedom is paramount.

These seem obvious to some. Most people are so indoctrinated that they've never considered an alternative to them to exist. Meanwhile, they seem counter-intuitive and downright destructive to me!

Surprisingly, we are already living in a utopia according to some people. Humans have mastery over the earth, we push back disease and death every day. The planet suffers but it is there for our use. As long as humans thrive no other species matters. For a some people there is no injustice, for a few there is nothing but growth and success.

A Utopia, as Emerson wrote, is made up of "the material apparatus which exactly corresponds to their state of thought.". The paradigm is what wraps Utopia in its form.

I've elaborated in some detail about my visions and goals here: https://steemit.com/steemit/@reneenouveau/my-response-to-what-do-you-want-steemit-to-be-revolutionary-cultural-space-and-support
But in short "I value authenticity, engaged action, idealism, equality, whole learning, activism, ecology, self-actualization, creativity, and altruism." All of these things seem glaringly obvious to me!

The Utopia born from these, my most deeply held beliefs, would be radically different than the world we know. The new goals for the systems that govern us would be to enrich and enlighten rather than enslave. The benefit is not simply for humanity but all. It would allow us to keep playing the game for as long as possible. The goal of the Utopian system is no longer to 'win, to win so much we tire of winning', but to perpetuate the game, so all can play.

Thank you for your entry! Very elaborate!
(I'll make sure to give feedback on these after it's over)

Great challenge idea.
I don't want to partecipate to both categories, so I will only partecipate to Category 2, with my post here https://steemit.com/steemit/@andrew0/organic-vegetables-garden-use-steemit-to-found-natural-agriculture-in-tuscany-italy

Thank you, I appreciate the way you're trying to use Steem in a different, creative way!

Thank you! I appreciate what you do and the entry!
I'll name the winners tomorrow :)
