Reward redemption - Is this Steemit's most unnecessary and worst evil?
Steemit's recent DDOS attack and later its deathbed unresponsiveness made me more aware of it than before.
What is it needed for?
One should not only check steemd.com (I had a few threads dealing with steemd.com and steemit's handicaps which necessitate it) to see how much voting power one has (an embedded "voting bot" "service" is needed too), but also to check for unredeemed reward and then click on unresponsive button for no reason.
It creates an unnecessary load on steemit.com, which should have been avoided by happening automatically.

Sort:

And then it also spams/overloads the blockchain, since every reward redemption is considered a "transaction" (is this the correct term?) which means it is saved on the blockchain in itself which increases overload/spam.

It probably seems backwards, but it actually takes load off the blockchain, because the uncollected transactions are done as virtual ops - which reduces the amount of calculations that must be done for consensus.

Assuming every reward is claimed individually, does it still take load off the blockchain, or is it efficient only as long as rewards are claimed in bunches?

The efficiency is gained when they are claimed in bunches.
