Should Steemit, as a Social Network, have an integrated Chat function?

Don´t you think it would be great to directly interact on Steemit?

Steemit is a great social Network with Space for Improvement

Without doubt we all might agree that Steemit is an awesome social Network, especially as it offers its active and dedicated Users the Possibility to get rewarded for their engagement. But unfortunately we still have to use external services like the Steemit Chat or Discord in order to interact with each other.

Don´t you think that this is basically limiting the huge Potential of Steemit on publishing Posts and commenting on those of others? In my opinion we are missing out on the most important aspect of a social Network, the Possibility to interact with each other right away.

We are for sure just at the very beginning of Steemit and there is still a lot of space for improvement. Actually, we just recently received the Possibility to save a Cover Picture and to discover small Layout / Design changes on our Profile page in an attempt to make Steemit more attractive.

But so far there was unfortunately no Chat function introduced. Of course, it would not have to run on the Steem Blockchain itself but be access able through Steemit.com directly. This way we would not have to jump from one platform to the other but rather stay connected on Steemit completely. At least in my opinion this would finally make it a full Social Network.

Let me know your opinion and get into a Discussion about it.

Would you like to be able to get in touch with every single Steemian right away instead of having to use external services? Or would you prefer everything to stay the way it is?

Yes. I think we should have a chat platform on steemit. I have always wanted to chat with some friends I made here on this platform but the only way I can do that is to chat with them via other platforms. I love it here and I want to remain here not to be diverted elsewhere. I believe you my friends see my point.

I really know how you feel @planetmarketers,
the bad part at the moment is, whenever you actually can´t find them on discord or steemit.chat. Sometimes it would just be nice to get to know someone better through a decent conversation in a chat rather than comments going back and forth on the blockchain.

So let´s hope for the best to come to Steemit soon ;)

Having an integrated chat system would be pretty bad in my opinion. It would diminish what the site actually stands for, and that would be interaction with each other on blog posts. Having discussions and others can weigh in.

Don't get my wrong, a chat system is nice and I do use the Steemit Chat on a separate window like everyone else. Besides that I use a slack channel as well so I like to interact. But it's a step further away from Steemit which makes it work. If I want to talk with someone I go into discussions on Steemit and just a great chat I do elsewhere because I think that shouldn't be included on Steemit itself ;)

I actually don´t think that it would diminish the actual interactions on blog Posts. IMO it would rather encourage people to comment a little more on others Posts overall as they might get to know more members more closely, so that they like to show their Posts some love.

Congratulations! This post has been upvoted from the communal account, @minnowsupport, by rkrieger from the Minnow Support Project. The goal is to help Steemit grow by supporting Minnows and creating a social network. Please find us in the Peace, Abundance, and Liberty Network (PALnet) Discord Channel. It's a completely public and open space to all members of the Steemit community who voluntarily choose to be there.

I definitely feel that Steemit has a long road ahead of it. As to your point, yes, there should definitely be an implementation of a chat function on Steemit itself for further engagement within the community. I think a bigger issue Steemit might want to address right now would be driving more adoption of the platform and gaining more users, which as of this point, I would say, Steemit isn't doing the best. The signup process requires quite abit of time on top of phone verification, of which I personally had some quite some challenge doing before finally being able to get it. As much I do definitely understand that those parameters are set in place to avoid abuse of the Steemit system, I believe much has to be done to streamline this process to further the adoption of Steemit as a platform, for, without users, the platform is worthless. And I see the registration process, in it's current state, to be a little too challenging which potentially drives away a large number of individuals who are turned away through sheer frustration.

I nonetheless love this platform, what is stands for and intend to be a fully contributing member of this community and want to see it flourish to it's full potential!

Thank you very much for your great comment @ansonoxy :)
Your point about the registration process is definitely something that´s holding Steemit back a little. It´s currently taking a long time for new user to get started, so that a real mass adaption isn´t possible right now.

But you always got to see the good side of it as well. All the people who´d just be spamming us with "please follow and upvote me as I want to get rich quick..." comments are as well among those waiting for their accounts. So all the patient ones are hopefully those who will add real value to our great Community :)

Oh, I agree and then some. The lack of an instant form of communication is one of the main obstacles that keeps Steemit from being more acceptable to the mainstream. This lack of ease in communication hinders Steemit from attracting users of Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, who prefer a more direct method of interaction.Of course there would have to be measures such as ignore/mute etc, in cases of unwanted conversations. I guess we'll see where this goes.

Oh yes, the ignore/mute function would be mandatory. Especially whenever you see those begging "please follow and upvote me..." comments, which would most probably be moved to the chat directly then...

Anyways for the time being Steemit.Chat and Discord are definitely some great tools. Further it´s somehow as well filtering on the active steemians as 99% of the "get rich quick" people are not getting that far...

I think it would be awesome! Moving into the future, look what messenger did for FB 🤔😳😎

I definitely think the same. Keep everything at one place and make people even more addicted to this Social Network ;)

Steemit Chat is more than enough but maybe we can suggest Steemit to add a link to steemit chat at the header.

Steemit.Chat is definitely a great tool. Would love to see it integrated here :)

a chat on the same site would be nice, having two sites open seems unnecessary , it could be better.

It´s okay for the time being but it would definitely be easier to be able to stay on the same page :)

https://steemit.chat/ is often down, and the discord chat maybe to underground, and some people may not know it exist,

But it is a way to get in touch, and i agree, a more integrated solution would be preferable.

Very good to your sharing!
Great!

Thank you very much :)
