Is Steemit a shining light in the Facebook dominated world of social media?
Facebook has just revealed it's takings for the most recent quarter and it seems there is no shortage of advertisers spending big on the social media platform.
Revenues hit $9.3 billion between April and June, which is a 45% jump.
Over 2 billion people are believed to log into Facebook each month and advertisers are keen to tap into this market.
They are also keen in expanding their advertising reach to their other platforms such as WhatsApp and Instagram.
It seems if Facebook can't buy their rivals (WhatsApp and Instagram) they simply copy their ideas.
As SnapChat is an extremely popular platform with it's stories feature, Facebook simply rolled this feature out onto WhatsApp and Instagram.
The one feature I can't see Facebook rolling out is the main driving force behind Steemit, the users are the ones getting rewarded for their hard work, not the shareholders.
People post everyday on Facebook, jokes, art work, their life stories and in return they get bombarded with targeted advertising and little in the way of rewards.
Steemit is unique in the way that it gives rather than takes.
You get to share your thoughts, ideas and creativity with like minded people and in return they reward you and you can reward them.
I've found since I joined Steemit I have logged into Facebook maybe once or twice at most.

I definitely prefer Steemit over Facebook for its quality content. But I think a lot of people prefer to just share articles or cute cat videos. So I am not sure if it will ever get as big as Facebook because posts actually have to be thoughtful and original. I also do not think it would be good to have news channels and large organizations with an overwhelming amount of influence determining what gets the most attention on here. It will be interesting to see how it works in the long run.
Yeah if news channels or advertiser got on here it would be bad news as no doubt they would buy a crazy amount of Steem Power to gain a large influence.
I have seen a lot of random rubbish on Facebook, like what someone had for their lunch, but I totally agree that only good quality survives on Steemit (well mostly, the odd cat picture does end up with hundreds of upvotes)
