Personifying our digital self

in #steemit7 years ago

With the New Year here, we should celebrate ourselves in all entirety. We are not only living but digital beings who mirror ourselves to the digital world through our Steemit, Facebook, Instagram, etc accounts or blogs.

We walk the digital world. We exist on servers as data. We move through the routers and switches on the network as bits. We stay there waiting for another digital self to communicate with us. We stay in the dark till our master decide to bring us to light.

We are potentials

In our eyes, we exist as potentials. We can be seen from anywhere around the globe. We can be accessed at any given time and can be blocked at any given time. We require mostly a conscious being seeing us. It is very difficult to know who we are until someone knows how to find us.

We are sometimes found on some else’s feed, on search engine searches or referral links and this is how we have the potential to exist. To find one of us on the digital world is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Is this how consciousness feels?

Is this what consciousness is? Everything exists as a potential. We as a human being, we have the power to bring to life new ideas, new concepts, new destinies, being someone else if we choose so. The world or perhaps even the universe feels like a giant network of computers where everything has the potential to exist.

Primitive programming

The languages we used for programming are mostly primitive. We, as programmers, we already set the rules of the software. There is a limited and ordered set of tasks that a software can do. If we take the example of Steemit, we don’t have checkboxes, radio buttons, the choice of content type that we want to post. Different content types would allow for choice of gaming display, challenge post display and many others. The Steemit platform is restricted as the developers has not written the underlying codes to make all of this possible.

Abstract programming

Our real world works on an underlying structure with many constants like Pi, Fibonacci, basic mathematical formulas that allows us to design so many great structures. With E=Mc2, we have designed satellites, understand the motion of stars, design complex formulas who eventually obey Einstein equation.

The real world is truly abstract. There is nothing that feels real until we touch it, we see it or someone explains it to us. Yet nature is here, so peaceful, so beautiful, so majestic that makes us full of awe. How are so simple rules have the ability to create such complexity.

Can we evolve our programming to write abstract programs who has the ability to adapt to demand, to the environment or to solve complex tasks using those basic rules without any human intervention? The answer is we are at the door of such an evolution.

AI is bringing the concept of abstract programming to life. We are starting to have computers who are able to adapt their initial code to develop their own logic based on past actions, just like humans. Computers are able to learn and provide alternative solutions to problems. They are not yet quicker than humans but with quantum computers almost here, the quantum leap is not a mere concept anymore.

The digital reality

We, humans, brings our digital self to life. We write about our digital self, we comment as our digital self and we make our digital self befriend other digital beings. We, humans, are like Gods, directing the path of our digital puppet self.

Are our digital selves us (humans)? We are having a shit day but we manage to catch a cool selfie of our smiling self with the sun and posted it on Facebook or Steemit. We know we just had one of the shittest possible day and yet to the whole world around us, we are one lucky duck who is enjoying his day.

We just had a fight with our partner or friend or parents and yet we manage to write a great post to be published on Steemit. Everyone seems to think this guy or girl is awesome and keeps posting great contents but in reality, that person may just be as miserable about his/her real life.

We as humans, we portrait our digital self as a happy, merry going individuals who are immune to all the pain in the world. Maybe on one or two occasions we will write something that will project to the world that we are unhappy and this is how we know there really is a person behind this digital self.

Happy new year to our digital self

As humans, we have celebrated new year by being with friends and families, watching fireworks and basically being happy.

We should not forget to celebrate our digital self. It has helped us a lot last year as a way to express our happiness, our sadness, our knowledge, making new friends and earning on the crypto world.

I wish our digital selves to do even better this year, making awesome new friends, continue to motivate the world with our wisdom and keep making the world a better place.

Wow amazing points sir. Really love your perception of the digital self. I enjoyed every bit of this brilliant piece... Felt also moved and inspired as I had some insights for myself out of it too. Thanks for sharing. God Bless You. Peace and Love. Angel

Thanks for the really great comment!

Keep steem'in hard XD

My digital self brought this post to my attention. It's the sort of things he likes. As do I. Whilst the future is always in flux, and being written into reality in each moment, this time we live in a certainly an exciting one. Technology has brought us to an evolutionary point that will be defining for the species.

Very well said!! How blockchain will revolutionise the world is just the tip of a new iceberg :)

Keep steem'in hard XD

Thanks for what you are doing, I've included you here and I've won 30 STEEMS , I hope you will like it. ☺

Haha!!!! That's great to hear and this has been a really good start of the year :)

Keep steem'in hard XD

I hope that I can steem harder, we will rock here this year ☺

"There is nothing that feels real until we touch it, we see it or someone explains it to us" - It has to "matter" in order to be material or real in us. Matter - bring information into ourselves and contact through us the material world. (Maybe) Just playing with words on the fly. Well thought!

Our sensory organs carries information to our brain and it is this information that brings matter to life!
If we go by playing with words XD

Mmm..seems Steemit et al has provided us with alternate platforms for parading alternate egos on, while our true selves are poppin' pills to stay alive!

Haha!! Indeed but the initial boost from the delegated power has been a boon that allowed alternate ego to exist on Steemit in the first place :)
