How to use Steemit and Gain Followers
I imagine a lot of new users ask themselves the same few questions that I did when they applied to join the network. Sure seems like it from the length of the Steemit FAQ anyway, right?
Once you make sense of the cryptocurrency components, Steemit essentially functions like Tumblr and Reddit. If you've used those social networks, this one should be pretty easy to pick up as well.
The Steemit Blockchain & White Paper
I've read through the Steemit Whitepaper, and I think you should too. It outlines the economic foundation that is determining the payout distribution and explains why the mechanisms that have been implemented are meant to encourage long term cooperation and participation from the Steemit community.
It won't take you very long even if you aren't extremely technical, most of the information is easy to understand and doesn't force you to start doing math.
Get rolling, Type It Up!
The first thing I did was get my first post published and see what kind of engagement I could garner. Fairly quickly folks started chiming in to welcome me to the community.
So, I started following their profiles and reading their posts. I try to comment on any article a like. Typically something positive and if I can, a question. You never know when you might hit it off with someone over a mutually interesting topic.
Reach Out & Shake Some Hands
This is primarily a content-based social network with cryptocurrency rewards available via investment in the attention economy it establishes. You're going to need to be social here!

Definitely will. Trying to publish one photographic post a day while I work on a few longer format editorial pieces. I had family around this weekend so its taken some of my usual writing time. Thanks for the encouragement!
All helps a bit...from the general image, too mingling around etc. But think the biggest breakthrough for me was the chat. There you really get to know ppl and tie up the conections.
Definitely need to get better with pictures. But i'm trying to be more documentary/journalistic with these posts for now.
