50/50 vs 100 Steem Power post payouts

in #steemit7 years ago

A few days ago I decided to stop posting with a 100 Steem power reward payouts and switch to 50/50 for a while to see how things go as far as payouts are concerned. One reason being my unemployed situation being able to cash out some of my SBD or Steem from my payouts will help me to stay afloat and avoid having to further power down.

In the last 2.5 months since the breakup of my marriage and the terrible depression I have been battling since I have been powering down and selling my steem for market value which in turn has caused me quite a loss if you consider how the price has evolved since then up to today.

If I could I would continue posting 100 steempower payouts all the time has I have incredible faith in this platform and how it will grow to unprecedented levels in the mid/long term. But at least I have nearly 6000 steempower and I hope not to have to power down anytime soon.

I realize that my posts as of late have not been great or even close to good in some cases, but I find myself pushing to keep busy and sometimes just writing or posting photographs seems like a good way to go to keep myself busy and to stop thinking about my problems.

Do you think there is a diference between posting 50/50 or 100% as far as payouts for a post are concerned? Maybe share your own personal experience if you have tried both ways!

I went through the same thing with my divorce. I highly recommend going to Al-Anon meetings, they will help you.

One of the best things to help me survive the devastating loss of my 27 year marriage was the phrase "no one is coming", which means, I had to show up for me. I had to be the hero. Please reach out to me if you need any support. I still struggle every day, it has been several years and I still love her, it comes in waves. But the waves get smaller. This is your time now. Take good care of yourself. Get lots of rest, eat right, get exercise.

Good luck.

Currently in such a group, I can confirm it's a life changer. As someone with low self esteem it was hard getting into it, but now, I wish I could've done it faster.

I am so sorry to read about your breakup and your difficult times. 50/50 is ok. I used to power up 100% for most time but I like to keep some for trading or buying into new projects like zappl or peerplay. I prefer to power up though

Thanks for your kind words, 100% is the way to go if you have faith in the future of this platform. Thats why it breaks my heart to have to post 50/50 plus I think people are more likely to upvote when its a full steem power post as well :)

I don't think much when I post something :) who votes or why they dont. It seems that friends help friends like whales help whales and so on. I am so thankful for being here with the opportunity to make more for my efforts than anywhere else. Keeping some SBD gives me the choice what to do with my funds. Usually I power up anyways. Keep your head up. You know Life is a rollercoaster ride for all of us , once up and once down.

Positive genuine vibes. Respect.

Thanks @mammasitta having sbd right now would you not prefer to sell them at market price. From what I have been reading the price is near 1.90$

Ups I overlooked those news :) I was away for only 2 days 🙀 Would you buy Steem?

2 days ago the price of SBD reached over 20$ I just noticed on the chart on coinmarketcap crazy stuff eh?

I have to think now what I should do with my SBD then.

Really makes you reconsider your position, one the other hand I just read that its likely a good idea to wait until interest rates go up in an effort to stabilize the price of SBD again.

At this point in time, I think it is better to do 50/50 because if creates Steem Backed Dollars. These things are way too high in value at the moment! We need to increase the supply so the price comes back toward the $1 peg. That's my thoughts anyway, from what I have read around here. In either case, best wishes for lots of steemit success!

Thanks @kenny-crane I have a hard time understanding why SBD is so overvalued right now. I thought it was pegged to the dollar in one way or another.

There are tools to TRY and peg it to the dollar. The main tool is interest rate. The higher the interest rate, the more likely people want, and hold SBD, for the continual income from interest.. The lower the interest rate, the less likely people want SBD. But we are already at 0% interest and people Still Want SBD. So the tool can no longer lower its value. It has good value because it has a defined lower boundary price. It probably will never go much below $1 because when it does, witnesses will RAISE the interest rate and people will want it again and bid up the price. So it is an asset that most likely will never go below a certain value, around $1, and that is something people want to own! My opinion, anyway! :D

Very good explanation. I never thought about it that way, I have never been a fan of holding SBD as I have always believed that the price of Steem would eventually go up and make holding Steem or Steempower much more profitable in the mid/long term! Value your opinion and thanks for your excelent reply!

In my posts I always do a 50/50 split... but when i upvote on posts like this or replies... I give 100%. I use a bot (yes I admit it) as I am following so many and travel so frequently that I do not want to miss my favorites... this is only 50% as I am not truly engaged.

The post is always a crap shoot, after 8 months posting, I still have no clue what people will enjoy and especially what larger accounts will vote.

However when I like a piece I believe that 100% is what I owe someone that has given me something free that could help in some way.

If they reply to a post again, thank you... here is 100% for your time and usually kind words.

I noticed my votes now bring .06 for 100%, that is great, but I look for the day when it is higher to help more people.

Thanks for your awesome insight, it feels good to see that our voting power now has a bigger payouts. I just upvoted your comment and it went up 0.07 :) I think the key to posting here is not to try and cater to what you think people will like but just to comment and write on diferent topics which are interesting to yourself. This way you atract the kind of followers which are interested in similar things and more likely to engage.

I always try to upvote your posts not just to show support for you but I love your genuine sharing. I thinknposts like yours make the Steemit community a richer place but I'm a real person not a bot so I miss some. Keep up the posts.

Just checked myself and I am for sure not a bot :) your the best @stephen-somers a real Steemian!

If the steem price is high make 50/50 and when it is low make 100%. That is in my experience the best solution :-)
There is no difference in my experience.
Steem on :-)

Makes sense to me @lichtblick thanks for the input!

You are very welcome :-)

I have always had 50/50 payouts. I don't know how the conversion works for you but in South Africa the conversion gives me a lot of money. I earn about half of my teachers' salary in Steem dollar per month. I save up all my Steem. This has helped me a great deal to relieve the stress of where the next money will come from. Steem is creating a steady second income. I dunno about your question but this is what I have always done. Oh yes, and I am now powering down a bit to pay my son's university fees for the year, my savings have helped me a whole lot! No loans for me....

Many quality content writers on here have found an amazing way to supplement income and find solutions to everyday problems like low wages or unexpected circumstances in life. I still feel bad about making the switch to 50/50 though. Once I get back in the swing of things and find a job that I enjoy and where I can use my skills I will likely go back to full 100%

You shouldn't feel bad. What a better way to look after yourself in the meantime. Steemit has given me peace of mind. I know there are always money available if I need it. If I had time to spend more time on Steemit I would've been on here 24/7 writing 3 posts per day. I love my job, but I love Steemit more. For much less time I am earning half my teacher salary.

It really is powerfull and amazing when you consider the small amount of time that you spend on here and the amount of earnings that you can receive compared to your full time regular teaching job. I love how you get your students to write on Steemit its really inspiring

Thank you! It is absolutely amazing. Steemit has changed my life totally. I used to be stressed all the time about money and most of that stress is gone.

Well you are a true inspiration to your students and to many other people Im sure. We need more Steemians like yourself. Also you always seem to be there supporting me and telling me things that I need to hear. I really apreciate your presence on here thanks @giantbear

I was also powering up 100%, but then I thought i might need some money in a hurry so I switched to 50-50. I guess it all depends on how economically stable you are, if you have a steady income and don't depend on Steem I would say by all means power up 100%, if you have economic uncertainties go 50-50.

Yeah thats mainly why Im switching to 50/50, in the past I have found myself being critical of people who do this but now my situation is forcing me to do so :) thanks for your reply @gduran

I dont know. I wasn't sure what it did exactly. I have no intention of cashing out anytime soon so I would have all steem power but it's not like I make anything for posts anyway. So in my case it doesn't matter haha.. But it would be good to know exactly what the difference was. On a sidenote, that is all bad news yo, Hope things only get better from here! following and resteeming

Very much apreciated @dlr once I get back on my own 2 feet I will be sure to continue to post only 100% steem power payouts as I have always done :)

Well I will only post with power up then so I can get steem power to help spread it. That is a key difference I guess. The more your powered up the more you can spread around? Or am I wrong?

Yes and the more you can earn from curation with more steem power over time. Right now with the price being so high I would imagine that post payouts will only increase. The sad thing is that it appears to be the same people earning in the trending page day after day.

well as more people get more steem power it should spread out a little more. I hope it does. but at least even with that handicap. The content is still decent, lots of crypto talk. and hidden behind the trending wall are some gems regardless..

Agreed, taking the time to find these (gems) is well worth the effort sometimes. I just hope new users dont get turned off Steemit due to frustration because it does take time to build a good follower base

Yes. I am the new user that could potentially be turned off. but my love for crypto currency will prevent that. Others, the big groups of masses we need here might not be so enthusiastic about reading crypto news haha.. But it was good talking, and learning exactly what that meant. now i will 100 steem power everything. and until next time. adios

Dont give up, it took me weeks until I started to earn more than 0.01$ for a post and I just keep writing and reading to get ideas on what I could do to improve my blog posts. Thanks for your replies :)

Well fell free to follow me and see how I do. Though I mostly do pictures of the places I live close to. and just try to have good conversations in between. I have an internal struggle between wanting to exchange a follow for a follow or ask for follows. I guess having the big group of followers is necessary but having a smaller, more communal group of people i might actually talk to and share most of the same interests with would be preferable. I dont know anything im new here. SO keep helping people like me haha

The best way to go is to interact in other peoples post where the topic is interesting for you. And by making quality content posts you will get the right kind of followers interested in similar things. Just having followers by exchanging is normally not a very efficient way of building a fan base
