I have a lot of ideas where to take this data including analyzing vote counts (and vote weights) before and after the promotion and what the payout ends up being for these posts.
Personally, I'm pretty excited about the promotion option. Yesterday my Exchange Transfer Report: 8/21/2016 to 8/27/2016 post had about 2 hours left until a payout of around $33. I spent 15 SBD to try out the promotion system and ended up getting some whale votes to bump it up over $300 with 4 hours to go. Pretty sweet!
Edit: It should also be noted as @jesta pointed out, you should not promote content which has already paid out. The top entry on this report, in fact, isn't in the promotion category because of this bug.

Interesting ROI analysis: the SBD in the end made my #45 post worth $2.5.
It would be interesting to compare Promotion investments and revenues. Just to see if and how it can bring a good ROI, or if it is just for visibility.

I'm just trying promotion for the first time! Put $3 into my post from 2 hrs ago, currently at $0.30 so it might not have been a good idea haha.. well, actually, it was prize money from another user and they had promoted it =D
It's all about learning what works and what doesn't. Hopefully this data will help people make informed decisions.
I am thinking perhaps my experiment of promoting one of my posts for 1 SBD may have been a little too timid to test the water lol!
It helps to analyze the data before making a decision. I say that, but I did a wet finger in the air with my 15 SBD promotion. Seemed to work out well for me, but I also knew that same report data for a different week pulled in over $300 one other time, so figured it might work out.

Very useful. I've tried this on a new post to get a better assessment. Ultimately I don't think it is cost effective for a regular poster like myself.
It probably still has a lot more to do with luck and whatever a whale had to eat the night before. :) Some posts hit, some posts don't. I've found it very interesting posting similar data (exchange transfer reports, follower count reports, etc) and seeing wildly different payouts for what is essentially identical information given for a different day.
Yes it is very variable. I've found that sometimes my more mediocre content does better than my best content. It is very much down to luck. Similarly the first post yesterday on promotion did a lot better than the others. I think the novelty may already be wearing off.
Exactly. A bit-off puting sometimes to see that. As minnow you have to spend 5 times more effort to get your Steemit promotion post rewarded...
Unless you hit the lucky vote from some whale who feels like doing a bit of charity...
