A quick of review of each of the 28 tools available on steemit

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

The aim here today is to give you the short summary of what’s available for the Steem community and give you an idea on how useful it may be.

Before we start I would personally like to thank roelandp for creating this website, he has done amazing work for the steem community.

SteemTools

SteemJS - The JavaScript for API for Steem Blockchain. The creator seem to be updating new features and add ons quite frequently, if your are a coder perhaps this is the page for you.

Steem Telegram - Is messaging app with a focus on speed & security, it syncs across all your devices. Looks like Facebook Messenger but it can be dedicated to Steem. It can be download on practically any device or system.

Steemle - An auto charting analyser which tracks transactions, new accounts, votes, post & much more. An interesting look, I can see from the 7th of June 2016 Steem has had an exponential growth in new accounts.

Steemcap - Compare Steem with its competitors like Facebook, Twitter & Bitcoin. Also shows things like google trends and lastest tweets about the steem community. Steems current market capital is $320,431,039.25, current price of $3.35 and current ranks 3rd in the Crypto currencies.

SteemStream - View all the activity for all steem users real time. Not sure how this useful this site is to me but its good to have the transparency, I see that up votes are dominating the page. It’s always shows a strange charting/line tracking of new users, posts & comments at the bottom of the page. 34 upvotes per minute, 7 comments per minute, 3.8 post per minute.

SteemViz - Appears very similar to the SteemStream, its a little easier to read in my opinion, and as it spreads the information into 4 columns: Posts, votes, new accounts & transfers.

SteemFighter – Well Well.. good thing I’m drinking at the moment, I thoroughly enjoyed beating up other steemers into a pulp. Not a necessity add-on but a nice addition to say the least.

Piston & Pistion.Web - The description is “a command line tool for the simplified blockchain querying” I am not a coder by any measure, I even looked it up on wiki and still makes no sense to me. It’s a command line tool that uses “python 3”. It can help you browse, read, post, comment and deal with your funds. Web is an open source GUI (graphics user interface).

Steem PaperWallet - This is properly another one for coders, its meant to secure your steem account with a generator. I try downloading the file, but there is no clear instructions on how to use it. It was created by xeroc if any one could explain how this works can you please put it in the comments.

SteemWatch - Is a notifying app that allows you to track people. Use your google or facebook account to sign in and just type the steemit account you wish to track. You can track account updates, transfers, blog pusblished, tags & comment. Appears more like a following tool for your favourite bloggers.

SteemShare - Dedicated steem post list organizer & discovery platform – Ok so I tried it and it’s just like using bookmarks but its for steemit, my question would be why not just use bookmarks? Could be useful if you have an extensive list of pages you follow.

SteemitHelp - Well this page I am actually going to bookmark, it shows lots of links to all types of useful information. Links to whitepaper, mining & curation rewards, useful websites & whale info. SteemitHelp has a forum page too but it requires a bit of information to log in, far as I can tell no one has been using it. A great knowledge base web page though.

SteemBoard - This is actually quite good, its a new user interface, that shows steemit in its own custom board. The best feature has is the colour skin mode “dark mode” my eyes aren’t burning any more! It still needs some work but definitely some good UI ideas.

Steemitx - Another site simillar to SteemStream & SteemViz. It has an option where you can exclude or include different features, like if you didn’t want to know about any up votes you can turn them off. SteemViz is still my pick so far for this kind of content.

SteemImg - Its imaging upload page so you can put your photos on steemit. I’ve used SteemImg before and I had some troubles with it. I end up using PostImage.org it works a lot smoother for me and its never lost my photos.

SteemStats - Stats about the blockchain and individual users. I would use this on a whale as company research, its probably got the most stats available on individual users. just type in the account and feels like you have hacked their home personal computer.

Steem.ly - Is a URL shortening service. Wikipedia = There are several reasons to use URL shortening. Often regular unshortened links may be aesthetically unpleasing. Many web developers pass descriptive attributes in the URL to represent data hierarchies, command structures, transaction paths or session information. You could also use markdown styling but with steem.ly you get cool links and very soon, stats on how many people clicked your link and so on.

SteemChat - Well I waited on steemit chat for 15mins with no response. Auduweb and Wiserhammer did have a nice long chat earlier in the day though. It has potential, people just haven’t reached out to it yet. I’d love to see this built into the steemit platform.

Steem Whales - Rankings for whales, lets see some ranks.. steemit#1 @ 209m, ned#2 @ 10.8m, dan#3 @ 8.3m. A little more than me but I’m sure I’ll catch up. I think I had rainman#13 vote me one and made an instant $140, thank you :).

SteemWiki - Pretty self explanatory, its a wiki for steemit. I compared it to wikipedia and wikipedia appears to have much more information for steem than what steemwiki has. SteemWiki was listing recent changes though, the only difference that I could see.

Steem Prices - A quick reference to conversion rates on steem, btc, eth & usd on different markets. It’s alright, its alright.

SteemDollar - This is the one I’ve been using, shows straight up and big view of the SBD/USD conversion rate. Last few weeks its been ranging from 0.87USD and 1.4USD.

Streemian - Currently closed in beta for testing improvements.

SteemShovel - Steemit search engine, only brings a dozen or so results for a particular search. I’d still prefer to use the default one through google.

SteemMETA - Displays live meta data & chart tools for STEEM/BTC & SD/BTC. Its got a troll box to chat in too, looks more popular than SteemChat.

StreemPress - It’s a blog viewing platform where you search for a user name and bring up recent blogs, it has some other tabs you can click that links to other steem tools.

Steemd - This site is pretty cool, its the steem block explorer. I found the best way to use it was by changing the url address by going to someone blogs page then delete the “it” in steemit and put “d” instead. It’s pretty detailed. Shows you pretty much everything you want to know on a particular user.

Hope this review of SteemTools has help you in some way, if you have anything to add please put it in the comments.

Wow @jaycobbell - you've dropped enough knowledge bombs to make my head spin. My bookmarks folder is getting FILLED with these nuggets of information. THANK YOU for putting in the time and effort to really educate and help us along. You are appreciated.

Hey, appreciate you took the time to check all of those tools up.
about steem.ly, not sure what you mean by "not sure how practicable this is".
Do you know what a short URL service is?
Would you prefer your comments to have links like this: https://steemit.com/steemit/@anduweb/vote-and-curate-throughout-the-day-doing-it-all-at-once-slows-your-voting-power-recovery-and-decreases-your-rewards
or like this: https://steem.ly/howcool

You could also use markdown styling but with steem.ly you get cool links and very soon, stats on how many people clicked your link and so on.

will update, and lookup URL service. I was gonna link everything but it's just as easy through steemtools. some of the tools on here are bit too technical for me.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that so you change your review. It's your review :)
I'm trying to understand what you meant, that's why I'm asking..
Thanks!

Wow...that could take some time to check them all out.
Thanks for the compilation, only had seen a few of them so far.
I think i have a new task for the next hour :D

Excellent work! thanks!!!

Great post!
