What percentage of the top 100, top 500, and top 1000 Steem Power accounts are powering down?

As it has been pointed out in previous comments, some people are powering back up some or all each week, while others have various expenses related to their contributions to the platform. Many of the largest accounts on this list have been powering down since I joined almost a year ago... it means very little without context.
My power down, for example, is for 13 mvests. I power down 1 mvest a week this way, which allows me to basically tread water even as I power down. I'm lucky to have had some decent posting rewards since starting, and I'm roughly where I was at the beginning.
I might reduce the rate of my power down at some point in the near future, in order to be able to hold my ground when I'm not blessed with the rewards I recently received.
Is there a way to tell how much is being powered down by these accounts?
You can see that by looking at their wallet. It will show when the power down occurs and how much Steem is powered down.
I'm powering down but not divesting. You can check my graph on SteemWhales, I cycle it back each week.
I see nothing wrong with powering down. Either to trade or pay some bills. We all gotta live and if Steemit makes it that much easier, so much the better.

I like that your article made no assumptions, however, powering down has been a bit demonized on the platform, so I want to say my account is in a constant state of power down which I do in order to gain a sense of liquidity. If one were to check out my wallet, you will see I have actually transferred more money in than money out.
Although I know you didn't jump to any conclusions, for others, powering down and selling are not the same thing. :) Cheers.
Thank you. I agree that powering down has had a bad rap on occasion. I see nothing wrong with taking a little money out to pay ones expenses or to speculate on the market. Heck if no one did that, there would be no market.

What does that mean if they are powering down?
It means they are converting their Steem Power (not liquid) to Steem (liquid). In other words they are moving Steem Power which cannot be sold to Steem which can be sold.
Is that equivalent to powering down? If so, why is there so much of that happening? Or is this a common trend you have noticed? Sorry for all of the questions! Pretty new to Steemit and still learning :)
Yes, that is equivalent to powering down and yes, it is fairly common. People have live and expenses. Some are witnesses and developers and have significant costs associated with making Steemit work.
