steemit terminologies for new users

hello steemians and new users, i just want to use this medium to share with the noobs in the house some terminologies you probably have come across and you are wondering what they actually mean.

Before i start let me welcome the new users to this great platform STEEMIT. The platform that reward you for doing what you really enjoyed doing...

Below are some of the frequently used terminologies on steemit and their meanings

STEEM POWER SP
Is the influence tokens which give you more control over post payouts and allow you to earn on curation rewards.
Part of your STEEM POWER is currently delegated to you.

Delegation is donated for influence or to help new users perform actions on steemit. Your delegation amount can fluctuate, +27.000 STEEM in most cases. without this delegated SP it will almost be imposibble for new users to upvote any post and to get curation rewards.

Steem Power (SP) operates like a concentrating force. Like a boiler, it superheats the content and creates steam. Oops, I misspelled that; I meant STEEM! When you earn rewards for posting and voting, part of this is paid to you in SP.
When you Power Up, you are increasing your SP also. Congratulations, you are becoming a virtual Class A shareholder with your bucketful of shiny tokens. SP gives you stronger voting influence. It also gives you a virtual stake in the future growth of Steemit and the Steem economy, since most of the new currency tokens created are paid out to SP holders. Where does the real muscle come from? From your hard work, of course. Creating and curating content makes it all start to bubble happily.

NEXT IS...
STEEM
Is the Tradeable tokens that may be transferred anywhere at anytime. Steem can be converted to STEEM POWER SP in a process called powering up PP.
Permit me to say steem is the platform(steemit) currency(crypto) and can be transfered on the crypto market.

STEEM is the liquid currency, much as electricity is the final product from a conventional steam power plant. You can transfer it, spend it, or Power Up into SP. Passing through this generator is the final step before the product of all your hard work is realized. Through bridges, gateways, merchants, and exchanges, your STEEM plugs right into the online economy. When the market cap of STEEM goes up, you are paid more for bringing your STEEM to the market, just as if wholesale electricity rates had gone up and a conventional power plant operator cashed in by selling it back to the customers on the grid.

STEEM DOLLAR SD
Is the tokens worth about $1.00 of STEEM, the the value of SD varies with the corresponding value STEEM in the crypto cap market. Remember STEEM is the steemit cryptocurrency and its value is not always constant, it can increase in value and its value can also fall.

Steem Dollars are the price-stable currency tokens that represent about $1 each in value. You will get paid partly in Steem Dollars (SD or SBD). There are so many possibilities with SD. You can spend these in the virtual economy which is soon to come, you can hold them and accumulate a 10% return, or you can sell or transfer them into Steem, Bitcoin, or other currencies. Like the turbine that’s spun by steam power in a conventional steam power plant, SD bridge the raw power of Steemit with the real world applications of a price stable currency.

UPVOTE
upvote on steemit is similar to LIKE on Facebook and other social platform, but have this in mind, your upvotes are not unlimited that means it can be exhausted and devalued so don't upvote everything you see, upvote wisely
visit https://www.steemnow.com to know your current voting power, how much your vote is worth e.t.c

In order to replenish your voting power you will need to stay beneath the 10 votes per day and your voting power will then increase by 20% per day untill it is fully replenished, provided you don't vote beyond the 10 votes per day

RESTEEM
you probably have come across people saying i have resteem this and that ... RESTEEM is the act of reposing a friends post or a post you find interesting and want to share with others to learn or benefit from the post this post is copied to your blog feed for all your followers to see...
so RESTEEMING a post gives the post more exposure and more tendency of being upvoted

See the bellow diagrams.

NOW THE NEXT ARE...

MINNOW, DOLPHIN AND WHALE
This are just the hierarchy arrangement of members of the steemit community using the size of fishes as illustration base on each members financial strength ( STEEM, STEEM POWER SP, AND STEEM DOLLAR SD)
MINNOWS
This is the group where most new users belong , it is characterized by low voting power, usually around $0.01-0.02 or something around that, and low curation rewards.

DOLPHIN

These are people who have invested a decent amount into the Steemit platform. They have generally invested a few thousand into their Steem Power, and are able to give a couple of cents to content with one single vote. As they vote, they begin to entice others to vote, capturing the attention of recent post's voter's attention a tad. They might give a blog post 10 cents just for their vote. As Steem Power has grown in their wallets, through investment (or enough money earned off of posting and up-voting content), they now have Steem Power that truly grows by itself just by sitting there. They get slowly more and more powerful and influential. Maybe one day they'll even join the ranks of...-

And finally ...

WHALE
Whales are the the big guys that have actually had a lot STEEM DOLLAR SD, SP as aresult of their consistent earnings and powering up PP, when a whale likes a post it shows immediate improvement on the upvoted post, they can add close to $1 to a post depending on their SP, they get more curation rewards due to their SP and voting power.
