Let's raise the bar on Steemit in 2017!

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Yes I have been duly chastised by them for speaking out. I guess democracy is not a requirement of this platform. When I post on Facebook, with a base of over one thousand friends I get enormous feedback, with interesting comments, some disagreeing with me, and support and that is rewarding in itself. They are reading my posts out of interest. Whereas if you offer financial incentives and then don't really give them, I am not encouraged to keep posting for the pittance I have been receiving in the last months, compared to other people who are receiving hundreds more.

It is impossible not to compare oneself and one's writing and come to the conclusion that there are parents involved in this scheme who choose which children to like, based on nothing else but their own preferences, so if porno is their thing, and I write negatively about it I am on the outs!

I think the whales have banned me for speaking out about how I find porno disgusting and unseemly on steemit!

Because frankly I have not even come to the same level of wallet as I was at 3 weeks ago. They take away even other people's votes...very uninspiring for a platform that wants to be progressive and innovative but in reality is run by people who can manipulate votes...who have the power to even remove the votes you get...

And also I noticed that people blog about stuff they think Mommy and Daddy will like so the blogs themselves all start to look alike and merge in to a bland mesh. I like intellectual stimulation and dialectical discourse, something new and interesting I have not thought of myself, and I am afraid there is not much to find here.

Steemit was a lot better when I started, because back then I had not had a chance to get on the big voters bad side, irritating them with my opinions. This is not a platform that is open to variety of thought I am afraid. It really should have an equal voting system and then it would grow in leaps and bounds with many different postings and not just ones with sucky logos!

If I never read a post on how important visuals are to a post, I will be happy.

Let"s start 2017 anew! As this is rapidly becoming an uninteresting site to be a member of....

Let's raise the bar in 2017!

That needs to go in 2017...

Thank you for opening up about your concerns. Many would just walk but this shows you care.

If you already said you don't like porn why say it again?
Is the NSFW filter not working for you?

They take away even other people's votes

Can you clarify this? How can they manipulate votes?

So you don't like people writing for a certain audience? It's the same way everywhere else on the internet, even if just for likes that are worth nothing, people are still trying to get as much attention from everyone as they can and it shows on the subjects they choose.

A flag takes away a vote and money, and she has been flagged for stating an opinion somebody disagreed with, if memory serves.

A flag apparently is also a redistribution mechanism equal to the opposite of an upvote. If she thinks porn shouldn't make as much then she can flag porn to take the rewards the publisher would have gotten with her singular upvote and give it back to the pool.

If someone doesn't think she should make a lot from complaining about content diversity then there's nothing we can do to keep them from expressing that at the expense of what could have been curation rewards for the voter had they granted a positive vote instead.

A flag doesn't take away any votes, it can take away rewards, but she can still see how many people agree or disagree with her. People can still resteem her content and comment. And not until the post goes bellow $0.00 will it hide when flagged.

The trouble with this is the common perception of a flag is that it is calling "abuse" and so people feel like they've been slapped. Whales who flag seem to be clueless about how an emotion reaction to a flag impacts user retention.

I think we need to completely reform the voting system to try to remove the stigma of a flag and create a way the rewards can be distributed fairly without users feeling like they lost money (that really doesn't belong to them until after the payout).

Still under debate, that usage of flags, I think. It does work as described, though.

I think you totally missed my point about equality of voting@tommycordero. For example there are now two posts one with 123 votes worth $23.00 and one with 129 votes (mine) worth $0.07. Even the people voting are of similarly worth, similar people....so why the discrepancy?

No, you think I missed your point on purpose when I have real questions.

When you tell me that whales can take away other people's votes that is reason to be alarmed, that's why I am asking for clarification.

I'm trying to find out how you would have problems staying away from porn on Steemit now that we have the filters, I am trying to figure out whether it's that you don't want anyone to have access to porn from Steemit because you not seeing the porn is not enough. These people exist, the people that want to go on diets and want to take everyone else with them. I'm trying to make sure this is not what's happening here.

I get it, you think that you're not making as much because you've pronounced yourself against porn, I'm just trying to figure out how you came to think this was the reason and whether there is anything to back it up. You can think whatever you want, I don't care, but I do want to make sure I am not gonna get screwed later on and that starts by making sure you are not getting screwed now.

Facebook bans porn and so should Steemit ban smut.
And my point was that we should not be thinking about getting screwed and having to suck up or watch everything we post, because then it is a stupid site...

Let's see if I get this straight...you don't want to have to worry about what you post but you want others to worry about what is posted so they can ban accordingly, just like Facebook does, which is fine just as long as they are not banning you. Am I missing anything?

To you porn may be dirty but to others people trying to censor others is dirty. I used to be very opposed to flagging when I didn't know how it works. I don't see a problem with accounts being worth more than others, if you are investing thousands of dollars then you should have more control over the investment than someone who invested 1 dollar.

@tommycordero...Yes, you have missed just about everything....

I thought it was the glasses we were supposed to raise? :-)

I think some people, whales favs are probably raising glasses @jyezie. While the rest of us plebs are bored stiff!

You are lucky if you are bored. I think a lot are surviving in the mud of Steemit trying to raise their heads to get fresh air. It is not easy to climb the pyramid.

I upvoted this response but disagree with you that this should be the sole purpose of steemit...to climb the pyramid...that was my point really that if Steemit was much more equitable and interesting site it would do more than make money for the already rich...I have no illusion that I will make it rich here and I hope you don't either...unless you are investing nothing much will happen...

I don't think the sole purpose of Steemit is to climb. Personally it is a side effect of my goal here: inspire and be inspired. By going up, I can contribute more the other project and authors I like, so that they can inspire more people. Unfortunately I have a feeling there are not so many people thinking like me around here.

Most people just want to do the right post so they will catch a whale...and get more money...

There are a few whales I see voting for good content regularly, that is, original, well-made content that took some effort to produce. The problem still is that you need the odd whale vote to make some money. Some posts get under $1 @ over 230 votes. That can be frustrating, but it is still more than you get on other social media, and you get to keep the copyrights as well.

@ocrdu...thank ing for supporting what I am saying...equitable voting would change the inequalities!

I'm not sure the playing field should be level, but a little flatter would be nice. A vote by somebody who has produced good content often (and has made money by doing so) can be worth more, that's a good thing, I think.

At the moment, it doesn't matter much if you have 100 or 5000 steem power, your vote is worth sweet f.a., and the numbers aren't there yet to make the votes add up to something substantial. And, as always, some content is more commercial than other content, sometimes the audience for certain types of content simply isn't there (yet).

So, if you don't approve, spoof! I'm thinking about making a photo of a fully naked woman holding a sign that says: "Taxation is theft! Get some money back at Steemsports! Leftists not allowed!", maybe with some Dollarvigilante advice in the background. That should make me rich.

But, to be honest, I'm doing fine here. More money is always welcome, but it's not what makes or breaks Steemit for me.

My point was that content is dictated by what makes money only here and nothing else so the level of postings are usually pretty low and sucking up to what the money holders may like, lets say a whale is big on flowers, photos of flowers regardless of how well they are done get high money and other posts that share an opinion about, life, philosophy etc. even if brilliant get zip because the whales may have a different point of view...
