Currently we hit the phase where the growth of newcomers is exploding, and that it amazing. However like in any social media platform, there are some challenges. One of the most important one is understanding your purpose of being here.

Let me tell you my story so that you can got what I mean.

I joined Steemit about 2 months ago, and was pretty fascinated about the ability to get rewards for sharing original content and adding value in general. There wasn’t followers back then, and resteem button wasn’t even mentioned yet.

I was trying to figure out what this platform is all about and what is the purpose of it. It took me a couple of days to learn about different rules, steem tokens, user types and so on. It was exciting because it was a novel experience for me.

Based on the fact that I’m interested in countless of topics, I was trying to find my message on Steemit by trial and error. I was posting my poems, suggestions and observations about Steemit, travel stories, philosophy on life and something related to programming.

I’m not sure this is the right approach to develop a supportive followership but hey, I was just experimenting as everybody else.

In fact, I do believe that because of our curious nature we cannot be interested in one thing only, it’s boring and too predictable.

Of course there are certain benefits to have a niche-targeted blog so that people are aware of what is going to come next and anticipate that you’re going to write about your travel experiences or your poetry or something related to cryptocurrency or whatever your niche is.

But is you think about it, why not to share all of it? Why not to share all of the knowledge and ideas that you have in your mind with others?

Those questions lead me to make a decision. A genuine decision to choose why I am on Steemit.

With no goal there is no clarity, and with no clarity there is randomness which can be great in some cases but not in all of them.

If you are struggling to come up with your own why, here are several options from which you can start:

Choice A - Share your voice with people who care about it

Steemit community is really unique. People are helping each other and deeply care about your message if it is a good one.

What is really important here is your voice. It can be presented in a form of an article, a comment, poem, novel, story, photography, application, creative art and so forth. Speaking about the art, this is the only way to get instant feedback and potential material reward in the history. @daxon has mentioned that in one of his posts.

On top of that, you can share pretty much everything. It is censorship resistant so you don’t have to worry about being rejected or banned unless you’re behaving inappropriately.

Choice B - Develop new friends

Some of you may not be that interested in posting the content and can even find it intimidating. In that regard you can just read it and comment if you like. By doing so you will definitely find likeminded people that have similar interests to yours.

Don’t forget to jump on steem chat and strike up a conversation with somebody, they will really appreciate that, believe me.

Choice C - Make a living

Originally Steemit was developed in mind of rewarding its users with providing a value. I didn’t know that you can earn that much here.

There are people who make hundreds and even thousands of Steem Dollars for their posts, and I admire them. They are my role models for sure.

So based on that fact you can make a living just blogging, which is insanely cool. There are lots of professional bloggers, writers, photographers who are coming here every day, and to be honest they can provide food for their families with SBDs only. This is a true miracle that I still cannot comprehend but it works.

Choice D - Creating new apps

If you’re a programmer, terrific. You can build tons of beneficial apps and share them with others on SteemTools.com. It will help to build community and you’ll be rewarded generously.

Choice E - Get out of other social media websites

Probably you’re just tired of Facebook or Twitter or Medium, and just want something new in your hands. Steemit is the perfect choice.

Yeah, it is still in Beta and the majority of features from already existing platforms are not here yet but I believe it will catch up pretty soon.

Choice F – Open new market to brand yourself or your company

Steemit can also be an amazing way to expand your followership and test new market for your brand.

You can be an individual or a company, it doesn’t really matter. With promoted tab basically everybody can get noticed. Marketing is a huge part for everyone, that’s why @dan and @ned figured out a way to do it properly without annoying ads.

Choice G - Get motivated or inspired

Maybe you are looking for a new source of being motivated to change your life or a specific part of it. You can find a plenty of practical information that you can use today to attain your goals. A nice boost of inspiration will be presented for you without a doubt.

In any case, I hope you got the idea that we are all different and have different goals in life, and even on Steemit. That’s why we all have to decide what is exactly we are looking for in this platform individually.
