Steemit addiction.

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Hello, Steemers!

If you are starting to read this, it is because you may recognize that there is a certain addiction for this platform, I at least say that I have it. In the time that I have since joining the STEEM blockchain, I have realized that I have acquired certain habits that have caught my attention and analyzing decided to investigate this topic.

These changes tend to be either positive or negative, which, if viewed from an external perspective, can be very funny or frustrating. These are my anecdotes of how is my experience since I entered the platform and how I conclude that I have an addiction for Steemit.

20 hours (biological clock):

In an ordinary job, you get used to keep a daily routine for everything, including bedtime. For some, Steemit has been the culprit of altering those hours of dreams, either because they sleep too much or they have trouble consolidating the dream; in my case I can not consolidate it. Automatically at 4am, I wake up and the first thing I do after opening my eyes is to check the Discord channels of Steemit communities, the Steemit notifications and the prices of the Cryptocurrencies. Many of us tend to go through this and in this kind of world, we need to be fully informed. But thinking from an external perspective, it would be seen as a big symptom of addiction that is held by the platform.

Working at home:

Nothing better than working from the bed, bathroom, kitchen, table, ceiling, shower or wherever in your house. You have all the comfort of the world and you do not need to travel to an office. Since I decided to dedicate myself to the STEEM platform, it has been great to be able to stay at home. But, things are not always rosy. While I stay at home, I have to do errands for the house, even if I do not want to. I can be very busy moderating, curing, reading or writing, also someone from my family several times tries to draw attention to talk or ask to do household tasks and what I do is ignore them or make gestures to pretend that I have heard them to continue with the day. (That's bad, very bad).

Think, think... Post, post...:

Something I've noticed is that I never stop thinking about Steemit. Since I get up, until I sleep; Wherever I am, it is impossible not to miss a detail to think of Steemit. To think about what topic to publish, to moderate the community, to spend time reading the post and curing, to create and participate in competitions, to know the news of the platform, to know how much is the price of the cryptocurrency, helping the new users and give advice. And most of all, in the desire to publish good content to earn money. Infinities of thing goes through my mind to find an excuse to think, speak and publish in Steemit, it is definitely a love / hate story that seems not to end soon.

Revolution:

Little I was devotee or defender of some religion or politics. But for some reason, I became a full supporter of Steemit. And the platform promises social progress, compensation to the collective intellectual effort and the unconditional support of all and for all. It is a means of sharing ideas and creating a society. And it is that for the modern time in which we live, we are in a complete instability, especially in countries in serious situations like Indonesia, the Philippines or Venezuela, and we take this means to achieve that stability that we look for internally every day. Really, I've taken my performance at Steemit very seriously.

Criptomadness:

Getting involved in the world of cryptocurrencies tends to have a high probability of being addicted to them. The market of the platforms is so volatile, that it requires to be always informed about the monetary changes within it. Know the currency, its capital, its values, the changes that occur between specific times, deals and internal contracts, etc. And the hardest of all, get the cryptocurrency of your choice, because from there you decide whether to buy, retain or sell. This practically becomes a game of luck, and we know that this type of games become very addictive.

Discord:

This app was made with the purpose of providing better personalized communication to gamers. But for such a complete app, they have given many uses, as in Steemit. This app is one of the main communication channels of the Steemit communities. If I'm not writing a post, I'm in Discord for hours, chatting. It may not look like a job, but it is part of the work at Steemit, more so if you have an important role within a community.

I want to show what's the definition of "Adiccted":

Maybe those are the key points that make me think I have a certain addiction to Steemit. And I want to explain what my daily routine at Steemit is about.

I wake up between 4am and 6am, check notifications from @GINAbot and mentions on Discord channels while I'm in bed. After breakfast, I sit down to my laptop and start working moderating the VOTU and PAL servers. During the day I read articles, I do my fatherly things, I help the users to improve their performance in Steemit, I check the prices of the cryptocurrencies every hour, chat in the channels and I think or edit my post. This routine lasts until 12am, 1am or until the body drop.

Analyzing my routine, I was curious to know if several of the users that I talk everyday happen the same thing and I have asked them two questions, these are the answers from them:

Do you think you have a certain addiction to Steemit?

dandy1.jpg
@idandy: "Yes I'm addicted, although it is a very healthy addiction because it balances perfectly with respect to other priorities, that is, what life has outside of this world."

@aidarojaswriter: "Yes, a lot."

@anomadsoul: "Yes, I have. And I suffer withdrawal syndrome lol."

@mfestra: "Yes."

A summary of your daily routine regarding Steemit.

dandy2.jpg
@idandy: "I wake up early. The first thing I do is check my cell phone, opening the platform from there. I review the curing and comments of the @reveur project first. After that I turn on the computer and enter from my account to see how my account is influencing the community and finally login, then I stay in another addition called Discord. I dedicate all the hours I can, I do not have a fixed schedule ... if it is to devote all day, I'lI do, as long as I don't have other priorities. However, my priority now at this time is Steemit."

@aidarojaswriter: "My daily routine also focuses on discord ... basically answering questions here. And I like to read posts that I find. Usually at any time, no matter if it is 4am or 1am, I'm compulsively updating the feed every 3 minutes. I start to go down and then I get bored and I update again. I see my blog like a thousand times and my wallet also although there is no change."

mafe2.jpg
@mfestra: "I wake up, turn on the pc, I think what should I do today between the work of the community (@reveur) and work life. I postpone the work of life for the afternoon and I stay all morning in the pc, writing, talking and clarifying to the people any doubt, and so I spend the morning, in the afternoon I look for drawing contests to participate (that I do in my blog) and I start doing them, while I'm still in the discord joking. In the evening, with my sketch ready, I upload it to the blog and stay chatting on Discord. If I have any activity scheduled with the community, I go to those."

@anomadsoul: ¨"But the routine always changes, although they are 5-6 hours minimum daily."*

Conclusion:

Steemit is wonderful, proposes a unique form of social network that values human intellectual effort. It also allows us to grow as people, as citizens and for many helps to overcome great difficulties. However, it seems that several people stick to the platform, perhaps because of how entertaining it is, for the monetized value, for human value or for following a trend. I don't mean to say that Steemit is a novice, rather the opposite. But we must recognize that this effect is changing the habits of many users. What do you think about it?

It's starting to coordinate a lot of positive intentions for people in the world. Putting a platform for their voice, along with individual value, that seems to be required these days for the normal population to respect something someone devotes a lot of time. Should be paying if society truly values your action. Problem there is it tends to perpetuate the status quo in a way. Anyways, I feel you on the addiction measure, but it's keeping us reading, writing, and creating to a healthy measure I believe. Just don't forget to eat some good food (hard not to do with all these awesome food videos floating around), do a couple push-ups or run the block, and everyone should be just fine. Possibly even better. More active in the community, better funded, more independent, and hopefully better informed. Now that those efforts have found a way to be incentivized. Excited to be here too.

That is the benefit of spending time in Steemit, because those habits that you are raising in your comment are valued. Of course, we must not forget our own well-being and the family. However, I have realized that the term "addiction" is assimilated as something negative, and if we revise the dictionary, it also defines it as someone devoted to a tendency. Thanks for take your time to read. :)

Agreed. There are good addictions.

Amazing post man :P Got to give you the props for it. I think most of us who really take seriously steemit are addicted. But life is about addictions. I don't think that being addicted to creating and networking with people is so bad after all there are so much worse addictions. So my conclusion is keep steeming. God Bless You. Peace.

You are so right. We see most addictions as a bad habit. But there are some addictions that bring benefits in our life. Let's say instead of addiction, dedication.

Yep. That sounds much much better :) And this addiction of ours is quite profitable too :)

Ironically, I've gotten less addicted to steemit as I've started doing better on it- not sure what's the cause and what's the effect there, but it's definitely interesting!

Maybe is the way you see it. You have the success in the platform and you only need to post once every 1-3 days. But still, you think about what to post the next time or even to know what happen into the platform. Maybe is not addiction anymore, but still you're devoted to STEEM.

Good post and happy to see many people spend there time on discord
Discord is a key to success thanks

I was the same when I first joined steemit haha.

I know, then when you are known at the steemit you feel so relax and the addiction goes down.

Lol. You're not kidding @dcardozo25, though for our own sake let's go with the "enthusiastically devoted to..." definition. I am only a week in and am watching other hobbies (and responsibilities) slide on down the priority list behind Steemit. Hey, the wife always said I should try writing... Great article!

Steemit is the platform of discovers! Welcome! :D

I know a lot of people who fall into the category of “addicted” to Steemit .. crypto currency.. and I’m not totally sure that I’m not included 😂 I totally enjoy it all. I’ve only been on Steemit since August, and just joined Discord.. and oh, Sola as well. I check it all every single day. I need to begin to post more often though.
