Importance of Google Search Results of Your Blog

Google Ranking

Have you ever checked on Google Search if some of your blogs are on the front page for certain keywords? I've been doing that for a while and I've noticed that some of my articles actually rank pretty high. It's definitely a good idea to spend a little time optimizing your articles, so they have a better chance of ranking higher in search engines. Not only are you promoting your own blog, you're promoting Steemit as well!

Just try to find some of your own articles on Google Search by looking for keywords that you've used. Are any of your articles displayed on the first or second page for certain keywords?

Improve Your Position

After I've written an article, I'll check which are the most used keywords throughout my written text and possibly change some of them. I'll cross-check them on [Google Trends](https://trends.google.com/trends/?geo=US) to see how popular they are.

If you create original content, while also being mindful of the keywords you use, there's no reason why you can't rank high in Google Search. You might even gain more fans and followers, because people found your blog through Google. I've had people directly say to me that they had read a tutorial of mine, after they found it through Google.

Here you see that I'm in 5th place for the keywords "bitcoin time-lock howto" & "bitcoin time-lock guide". This is the article that someone mentioned they'd found through Google. Similarly, me position for basic income related keywords are also pretty good.

I'm not really an SEO specialist, but I think that backlinks still have quite a lot of influence on your ranking. So, whenever I can add a link to one of my articles on other websites, I definitely do that. Since I'm also posting on Bitcointalk, I'll sometimes link my own articles as sources for my replies on the forum. Only when it's relevant to the conversation though, it's not a good idea to spam...

Extended Monetization

Since we only get paid for the first 7 days after we've published a new post, it's a good idea to also add some affiliate-based advertising to your articles. That way, you can also earn from readers who aren't members of Steemit, who might have found one of your posts through search engines.

I personally only add services that I use myself, thus I'm also endorsing them. It's best to also mention that you've added referral links in your article. I personally see no ethical problem here for using affiliate/referral links, as long as you're upfront about it and do not promote dubious services.

Lack of Stats

One thing that's holding us back of doing a somewhat proper analysis of our traffic, if the fact that Steemit doesn't offer us any sort of statistics. On Medium for example, it's possible to see how many people have read your article and where your traffic comes from.

We used to have that simple view counter under our articles, but even that is gone now. I really hope Steemit can add at least some statistics to our blogs.

Conclusion

I hope that I've been able to convince you that it's beneficial for you, to keep track of your blog's search results. You will bring more new people to Steemit and are able to extend your post's earnings through advertising.

Steemit will only succeed when it's on top of the search results. So, kudos to all the talented creators who are putting out great content that reaches the top of Google Search.

Keep Steeming!!

In my world... google is one of those things that I have to say.. "damned if I do, damned if I don't"

See.. me and google have this love/hate thing going on.
Google. YT, Google Android apps and play store- ALL things I use on a daily basis.
I love watching YT (all the while getting more into watching Dtube). I love having the main search engine readily available.

ALL things that make my life better; well, maybe NOT better... let's say easier at times.

WHAT I hate is the lack of privacy I am allowed by google.
I left FB last year due to this, then in 2018, the truth about our privacy, or lack thereof, was revealed.

So now I use Bing or other search engines.I closed my gmail account, I use more DTube videos, I constantly am changing my cell phone settings (thanks to the cyberguy reports on the news) to more private, if an app requires me to allow access to my contacts, location, etc- I don't download anymore or use.

Having visibility online (at least for me) is not something I want to trade-off for when getting blog/page hits if it means giving up my "world" of privacy and solitude.

Oh I hear you and agree with all the points you're making here. I'd love it if Dtube, Dlive and Steemit become the next generations's standard.

That said, a lot of people still use Google Search, so it's not a bad idea to just optimize your articles, so they are displayed in the results. Besides, I think all these search engines use somewhat similar algorithms, except that Google really focuses on 'personalized' results. Meaning that they'll get information about you through your search history, Gmail etc. and adjust their search results accordingly.

DuckDuckGo is also a pretty good alternative to Google btw :)

@goldendawne: do you have a smartphone?
Perhaps one that runs on Andriod?
Say goodbye to your privacy :)
IOS/iPhone? Well, what do you think? :)

Oh I know that. Which is why I am constantly looking at the new article by a cyberguy to remove things and change my settings. I know I can never completely stop things or from being tracked... but I can try.
Ever since watching the Edward Snowden movie years ago... I have been real paranoid.

You can change settings to whatever you want - they do not care.
Perhaps you want to read
Google apps are recording your location, even when you turn tracking off

Sure, you can try ...

This is another topic in itself! I stopped using Google as a search engine years ago, because I simply wasn't getting decent search results. I found out that this was because Google was tailoring my searches according to things I'd previously searched for, and because I do a lot of online searches, and often for eclectic things, I was getting really weird results.
I started using StartPage instead. It's meant to offer more privacy, but I've noticed that Google seems to still keep track of all the searches I make via StartPage. However at least I get a decent search.
I think Bing is just another type of Google, except run by Microsoft.
I DEFINITELY plan to close my gmail account - when I get round to it! It's started automatically filling in my iphone diary.
I'm glad that more and more people these days are taking privacy seriously. A few years ago I was seen as a bit of a paranoid nutter for being concerned about it.

One other thing, which I thought was hilarious. When I looked into why Google was giving me such weird search results, years ago, I found out that their bots had decided that I was a 65-year-old man (which I am not by the way!). I think this was because I sometimes look up 1940s jazz videos on YouTube.
I decided not to enlighten them. I even started to get YouTube ads for incontinence pads for men! It's only recently that I started to get ads targeted at women.

We ran a website just over a year ago,but could not get it anywhere near page 1 of google. The SEO cowboys want a fortune every month to get you seen.

Within 2 months we closed it down, and opted to sell on ebay. They have regular £1 deals for final fees, so we wait for those now.

Oh yeah, I've dealt with some pretty scummy SEO companies myself. Half of the time they can't show any decent results and just charge you more...

THis is something I had never given much thought to but I am seeing now I should be

thanks for such an informative post

Yeah it's easy to forget about this, but luckily it doesn't really require that much additional effort. I know there are some free tools to check the keywords in your articles, they'll mention if you've used some words too much etc.

@daan I have a sticky on my desktop at home to remind me to look into this tonight

I could write for hours now about google, etc. - or again make a post of it ;)
But in short: great work @daan!

Google is ok, but some things are scraped down and it is getting worse. I am not happy with their seo limitation, numerous rules and especially not with the 4000 hours of Youtube play time in order to re-confirm my Youtube channel.

yes bro, google key words take a powerful affects on any article or blog's popularity.

The STEEM Engine is an initiative dedicated to promoting meaningful engagement across Steemit. Find out more about us and join us today.

When I was a new user to the platform I extensively used google to find things here on Steemit. I have found countless people/articles through this route. Visibility sucks and I want to find things I'm interested in on the fly without scrolling endlessly through tags. Not saying, that I don't want to periodically explore "random" content. However, generally I don't like doing that, my time is precious and when I want something it's usually specific.

Why was the simple view metric removed from posts? I believe it suggest many possibilities. With that being said, I have a strong suspicion that it was done with intentions that I consider to be a bit shady... It suggest a breaking away from certain value paradigms via avoidance tactics, as to not draw attention to it. Platform direction? We will see.

It can be difficult to get your content seen for sure. I think it is quite the racket. Google and the other search engines have made monetizing your content ranking an art for sure.
