Best of Steemit Every Day: Heavy on the Fiction

Every day, I bring you five six posts you should think hard about upvoting and supporting. These are quality posts, well written and good examples of the best the community has to offer. Please consider checking them out, and if you agree, love them up.

Today we're heavy on the fiction, because that's near and dear to my heart (and I'm in an editing class this afternoon). Writers unite!

Today's Best

Writing (Fiction): The Girl and the Pendulum by @michaeladamparis. I'm not going to lie, a couple things about this kept me from being entirely absorbed in the story, but there is good atmosphere, solid drive forward to the plot, and one absolutely killer line that pushed this chapter to the top of the list today. Go back and read from the beginning, if it grabs you. I surely will.

Writing (Nonfiction): Reviving Fiction Trail by @fiction-trail. This is almost a cheat, because it's a nonfiction piece about curating fiction, but I think that's killing two birds with one stone. Fantastic to have someone else that loves good fiction as much as I do--and it turns out we love the same people's stuff. Follow this one, won't you?

Writing (Craft): Writing Gets A Bit Hard by @alittlebitofthis. Absolutely a cheat, here. This is poetry. But it's also a perfect description of why I think writer's block is stupid and doesn't actually exist. You don't have plumber's block, do you? You just fix the #(%&# pipe. If you're a writer, write. That's this poem, said a lot more gently than I just did, and far more beautifully.

Introduceyourself : An Ordinary Guy by @johnhamilton. Great, photo-filled intro by a guy who is, despite the name, Serbian. Global reach is one of the most fun things about Steemit. Give him a hearty welcome.

Steemit community : Should STEEM be Steam or Self-Esteem by @trevorlyman. The Steemit community is a new permanent item in Best Of, and Trevor leads us off with a really intriguing post about the origins of "Steem" and what the term is going to mean going forward. The graphics alone in this post make it one of the best I've seen today.

Other (???): How Do You Go About Commissioning Cover Art For A Steemit Novel by @ponimayu. I am not a designer. But if you are, or you know someone who is, here's a chance to do some design for a Steemit novel, which is potentially going to be a thing in the future. I thought it was very clever to ask this question, and I love his mocked-up cover. You have to see it. It's hilarious.
